The Cafe Watering Hole: PART DEUX

That’s good to hear. Rice being only slightly larger than my high school was a concern, I’ll admit.

I have a second baseball workout today. Ridiculous.

I got my financial aid letter from Case today. It’s officially off the list.

UChicago’s aid and Princeton’s rejection come next week. It’s going to be epic.

It’s hard to come to terms with the fact that I’ll have absolutely no money in college. My parents give me too much.

I think my philosophy will be that if the starving kids in Africa do without it, I shouldn’t really need it either. Except for perhaps basic food and medical care. It’s a good thing I like rice, bread, and potatoes.

Chances are you’ll be fed amazing food that is included in your tuition. I don’t understand the starving student cliche–I think most people who live on campus are required to be on a meal plan. It just makes no sense. Also, you can take tons of food from your dining halls and make multiple meals out of one.

Silliness.

The summers are what worry me. And then, of course, grad school. I want to have internships or study abroad during the summers, but unless they’re paid internships, there is no way it will work. My college savings equal a grand total of $5,000.

I like your philosophy, jb. Except for movie money, I shall follow it.

I should look into Rice.

I need to drum up ideas for my graduation speech. I only have to talk for about five minutes, since there are three of us speaking.

Some people have 0 college savings and they still manage beautifully. But then again, those who weren’t able to save for college usually end up with a lot of financial aid. So I’m not sure of your situation. But I’m sure you’ll be fine either way. Student loans aren’t the devil.

There is a pheasant who pecks on my window every spring and summer. It sounds like someone is trying to break in. He’s cute.

I am getting rather generous aid, considering how well off my parents are. The thing I have going for me is the deflated cost of living in Ohio. It’s possible here to buy a four-bedroom house with a two-car garage on one acre of land for $150,000. In most areas, that would cost a small fortune. So while it looks like my parents don’t make very much money, they really make quite a bit in the context of where I live. So that helps.

I’ve recently been daydreaming about my productivity dungeon. When I get my first house, I’m setting up a productivity dungeon. It’s going to be great.

I’m afraid of what my EFC will be.

I’m listening to Lily Allen’s new album, and it’s alright.

Try one of the online calculators. They’re fairly accurate.

I will tomorrow. My parents make money but they put it into retirement. They lost a good bit of my college fund, though. Scared.

Facebook is effed and I am bored.

That’s not just Ohio. Drive 2-3 hours out of any city in North America and it’ll be the same.

Congrats, Mike! You have so many options for college. Ridic.

No. You did not just write ‘Ridic.’ I refuse to accept that.

That’s really great, Mike! Congratulations! (See, there? It isn’t necessary to use ridic to congratulate someone. Gross.)

I will now use ridic in every one of my posts. Ridic.

Well, Canadian, it’s possible to do that even in Toledo, which has 300,000 people. Sure, it’s not a huge city, but it’s pretty sad that a house is that cheap when it would be so much more expensive elsewhere. You wouldn’t get the acre of land with it there, but still.

I’m in for a surprise when I take real calculus in college. I can’t wait to come back here for Thanksgiving break to tell all my teachers how inefficient they were.

That’s ridic.

Thanks guys.

P.S. That’s ridic.

I must see Taking Woodstock.

Sometimes I’m so hip.

I learned something new today.

What’s that?
