The Class of 2010 ED Thread/Roster

I love quartets… and quintets… but… I’m so music illiterate. (Sigh… Asian parents: "All your friend play piano or violin! What about you?!) I want to learn to play the concert harp, though.

Oh I love harp! I don’t play it though… lol go asian parents… I bet they could all ace the fear factor no problem…

I actually play in all sorts of ensembles, small and large and I enjoy it very much (I play the violin). What instrument do you play, Orbit?

Me too me too! violin rocks! We could do a duet too! Know how priviledged you are to play with an asian eskimo.

Hello, I’m Patrick, and I’m applying ED to Princeton. I enjoy playing music, including my cello(7 years), piano(3 years), and just random objects like pots and pans(since I was a baby :-P). I am obviously in Orchestra(including Celtic Ensemble) as well as ROTC(Drill Team, Rifle Team, Battalion S-1), and Spanish Honors Society(just a member, LOL). I go to school in the ghetto so I don’t have as many AP courses on my transcript as other kids applying, but they added more this year and my schedule is ALL AP :-D. Gosh, I’m lame, LOL.

Stats:
-Weighted GPA:4.043; Unweighted: 3.9; Academic, weighted:4.18 Academic, unweighted: 3.84

-1 AP so far(US History w/ a 94), and I will have 5 more on my transcript at the end of the year(AP Spanish, AP Lit, AP Econ, AP Gov, and AP Stats next semester(Calculus was full and I couldn’t get in due to scheduling conflicts). AP wasn’t offered to freshmen and sophomores, but I would have taken them and even then we had no more than 4 or 5 APs. Instead, I took the “honors” versions of classes.

-My SAT score is a bit on the shabby side because I had the flu when taking the test and my calculator broke (it was 700M[with a broken calculator,so I’m kind of proud of that one], 600V, 660W w/ a 12 on the essay). But, on my practice tests which I take in good health, my range is generally in the 2100-2250 mark. Though, even the 1970 is superior compared to my school’s average of 1250-1300(out of 2400)(estimated since the writing section hasn’t been included yet; the old average was 879/1600). My SAT II’s haven’t been taken yet, but my pretests read 670-710 US History; 700-730 Math IC and 710-750 Math IIC; Chemistry is 670; Biology is 720. Spanish is 630.

-I go to a majority-minority school that is borderline Title I, has a high drop out rate, a graduation rate of 69%, you know that school that you see on Dangerous Minds but a little cleaner(not much though), but it is in a county known for its good schools(we’re just not one of them…).

-Rank: number 8 in my class and, so far, I have attained the highest SAT score among my class.

ECs:
-Orchestra, 7 years with Celtic for about 2 years; Leadership:1st chair cellist in 9th grade
-Army ROTC, 3 years; Leadership: Battalion S-1, potential XO, Command Sergeant Major
-Photography, 5 years (free lance)
-Spanish Honors Society (1st year… for senior year only)
Work Experience:
-Dish Washer, Chinese Restauraunt (20 hrs/wk), 1 year
-Legal Secretary(filing paperwork and answering phones) for the lawyer at my mom’s work, 40 hrs/wk, from June-August this summer.

Parents’ Occupations/Income/College:
-Mom: Secretarial, Income: <30K, No College
-Dad: Unsure, haven’t seen him

Foreign Languages Spoken(with fluency in some aspect) R=reading W=writing S=spoken
-Spanish(R,W,S), clear fluency, able to hold a conversation
-Italian(R,S), though this one is iffy, can hold a very short dialect as well as comprehend what people are saying
-Latin(R), learned it in the Roman Catholic Church

Race/Ethnicity/Nationalities:
-White(Dark Irish, Italian)
-Hispanic(Spain), but Spanish is not my native tongue

Awards/Honors:
-Georgia Merit Scholar Award (top 2% of high school students in state)
-Department Awards
-In ROTC, “Distinguished Cadet”, approved by Pentagon (for highest GPA in my batallion); Proficiency, Conduct, and other basic ribbons; 2nd place in drill regional drill competition.
-Orchestra: Lettered; candidate for Tri-M Honors Society.
-Spanish Honors Society: Academic Letter

Other Factors:
I would be the first person in my family, immediate and extended, to attend college right out of secondary school. Also, I had an IEP but still managed AP courses and to be in the top 2% of my class (that sounds kind of arrogant, doesn’t it? :-)

Sorry about all of that reading. Just thought I would get that out and let everyone know who I am. So, what do you think of my chances on admission? Good, bad? I know that I will hear something about my scores as everyone else on here does. But, any input would be appreciated.

hi Patrick! Welcome to the ED group. Actually, we try to keep stats and chances out of this thread… i’m sure a ton of people would be happy to assess your chances on a new thread, though!

I had the same thing happen to me on the SAT!!! My calc ran out of batteries, and since i’m an idiot, i didn’t pack any extra. Needless to say, my math score rose significantly the second time i took it ;)

Orbit - I started a violin duo with my friend last year and we’re performing Sarasate’s Navarra this year at our concert. Fun stuff.

Oh, I’m sorry. So, this is a less hostile, more friendly group? Okay then. That’s cool. So, what do y’all like?

Cabanas and Cheese

Cheese is good. Never tried Canabis.

Oh wait, that said cabanas. LOL Nevermind.

Cabana- u know its the sausage you cut up and u put it on with cheese onto crackers…

you definately don’t eat cannabis with cheese …

Running and sci-fi/fantasy novels!!

In a perfect world without responsibilities… or school… i think my life would basically be some variation on going running, then reading for a bit, then going on another run, then reading some more… oh, and you can throw a shower or two in there somewhere. ;)

And the entire world would look like the Princeton campus. :D

ewwwww and i HATE cheese. With a passion. There would be no cheese in my perfect world. :p

Yeah, it’s 11 and I only slept for 4 hours last night. So, I’m a bit off, LOL. Now, there are people who would eat cheese with cannabis, though I will not mention names coughNickcough. He’s a neighborhood friend and a freaking stoner. He ate 2 lbs of cheese and some potato chips after smoking a blunt. I didn’t even know it was possible to eat 2 lbs of cheese at once.

2lb of cheese?! I think maybe the only time I’ve ever eaten a pound of anything at once is water. Or Naked Juice (I love that stuff). Er… well you don’t exactly eat water or juice.

I like punk rock and martial arts. And chemchemchem!!!

Have you heard of Vanilla Sky? (Not the movie.) It’s a pretty good punk/rock/alternative band from Italy; they sing in English, but with pretty strong Italian accents. I’m possibly putting them on my app, lol.

Okay I said I wasn’t going to do this, but just this once…

Maybe this is why Princeton has soooo much school spirit. All of these dedicated EDers who are absolutely in love with the school. :)

billyum! I love Navarra! I actually performed it at my private teacher’s recital… we should definitely have like a music party for 10 ED’ers when we get…there…if I ever do…!!! Gahhh! I soooooo need to get in!!!

anybody like Dispatch? i am so completely obsessed with that group.

First off, I would like to know if anyone lives in the New York/Long Island area. I also am not too fond of the excuses people give for their poor performance on the SATs. If you are going to make up an excuse, don’t bother posting the score at all. And an even better thing to do would be to go back and rock the **** out of the test. That’s all I’d like to get off my head for now.
