The Class of 2010 ED Thread/Roster

Here are my excuses for the day: I have no idea why a got a high old SAT score with low practices. It was a fluke. I have no idea why I got a lower new SAT score with higher practices. It was a fluke as well. What’s my ideal score? I don’t know. And it doesn’t matter.

Orbit - Yeah, I really like the Navarra, and it’s somewhat of an unknown piece too. We should definitely do something if we get in.

Yeah, but I actually couldn’t help my poor performance the first time. I had some flu from Iraq and it just *ed me up. Anywho, yes, I will rock the * out of that test and laugh at you afterwards. :-P

billyum - so the first thing I’ll do when I get there is to put up a sign saying “asian eskimo looking for billyum!!” lol

haha we’re so definitely throwing a CC-EDer’s party when we get there. Assuming we get in, of course…

woot! Paaaar-ty!! :p

Look at the Princeton 09er forum – practically the only c/o 09 forum that almost always has people in it. We’re sticking together!

Ooh, totally on a tangent, but I just got braces two days ago, just in time to look like a dork for senior photos. But I saw a tiger-striped retainer in my orthodontist’s office – I want one! :p

lol… talk about school spirit! that would actually make a funny (though incredibly stupid) essay:

“I have to come to Princeton because I have a tiger-striped retainer, and it will cost me extra to exchange it for a crimson one.”

Now THERE’S a hook… :p

Hello. I want to apply ED, and on the advice of koala717 I enter this thread. As for the braces…wow, it’s amazing what lengths people will go to in order to get into college ;)

If we all put into this 110% then there’s not much stopping any of us from going to Princeton. I’m not sure how many of you people are doing the SATI and SATII’s again in October and November but I wish you good luck. I’m going to go for them again and the fact is this time I will be prepared …

anyone else retaking the SAT’s??

Yup… meeee… except I don’t know whether I should take one or two SAT IIs in November, because I might miss too much of my Saturday multivariable calc class and then they might kick me out, and it wouldn’t be worth it. Because I only have Math, Chem, and Writing, and for schools asking for three SAT IIs I’m worried Writing won’t count.

I’m retaking the ACT to try for a 36.

Eeep, I’m starting to get an SAT-whore taste in my mouth from this line of conversation. We really do try to stay away from discussing stats, and just try to have some good clean fun. (Standardized tests being unclean, hehe :p)

Welcome to the ED crew, by the way! Go ahead and add yourself to the roster.

But if you want to talk about tests…

Have you guys noticed how ETS has been slipping all of these ethnic names into the math and writing problems to sound cosmopolitan? It really isn’t working, and IMO sounds rather pretentious. (eg “Juanita bought 7 CDs for $42 and 3 cassettes for $10…”)

I agree. Don’t you just hate it when your Spanish textbook uses names like Omar and Gupta? It just doesn’t work and makes them look foolish. I preferred Jack, Jill, John, etc.

How about each of us say our strategies for studying for SAT’s? As for me… so far I’ve just taken many practice tests, and analyze the ones I got wrong… but that doesn’t seem to improve me any further now… I mean… my first practice SAT scores… my freshmen summer… was 1000 lol… and in the march SAT I took, I got 2170… which is equivalent of 1450… yea… those practice tests got me this far… but now my scores are settling right around 2220…and It’s not improving any further… what can I do?? I have no problem with math… but I suck at reading… Share share for this poor asian without the usual crazy mother lol

Well I went online and had a little shopping spree and brought new SAT prep books. My old 1550 isn’t all that useful because it doesn’t have the writing so I have to take it again. I soo wanna perfect score. I’ve never looked at these prep books and they seem just to be practice. I guess Practice makes perfect.

Orbit, its a little bit late now but reading lots of books and stuff really does make the SAT soo much easier. I guess the main thing is to practice reading fast cauz that gives you much more time to think about the questions.

I enjoy the reading a lot more than the maths. The material is always fresh and interesting, and even when I hate testing there’s always the nice story/article to distract me.

As opposed to the math, which I get bored to death with fast. Same old easy questions no matter how many spins they put on it, including naming the character Gupta.

By the way, there’s an entire section of CC dedicated to SAT strategy; just go back to the main page and you’ll see it.

I don’t mind the Juanitas. I agree it does seem a little strange, but really, it shouldn’t. We’re used to problems being in John and Jill but of course Jose needs help with his math problems too ;)

Of course, this can definitely go badly. One problem we had in a physics worksheet this year started off with “Jose and Pablo are in the ocean on a raft…”

I would agree with Marli on focusing on something other than tests, though. The best thing to do is just prepare (nothing fancy, just study), go into the test confidently, and give it your best shot. Everything else is just unnecessarily adding to the stress and isn’t going to help your score. Of course, I do like to add a little dance during the break after a particularily good couple of sections. Never mind the weird looks - you’re in the zone. ;)

Oh no! The only way that question should’ve made it into publication would be if the authors of the problem were Jose and Pablo, lol.

I’ll take note of that. If I see anyone dancing during breaks, I’ll know it’s probably you. ;)
