It will be interesting to see if they keep their MT program at Stevens Point or if that ends up on the chopping block.
@EastchesterMom @stagedoormama if I recall correctly the head of Wisc-SP MT recently went to OHIO U to start their MT program?I could be wrong about that, but I thought I read that on one of these boards…

Great memory!
“The Theater Division is proud to announce that Alan Patrick Kenny will be heading the Musical Theater Track. Mr. Kenny is a theater director, musician, producer, and educator. Musical Theatre Program Coordinator and tenured Associate Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. . .”
Being part of the UW University System, Point and many of its brother/sister schools outside the Big 2 (Madison & Milwaukee) have found that there is too much overlap in many schools/majors they have/offer. Coupled with less funding from the “other” Madison (politicians of a particular persuasion have been cutting spending on education the past dozen or so years) have forced these schools to make some tough choices. I would like to think MT there would be safe for a couple of reasons. I think Milwaukee may be the only other UW System school with a BFA MT program. And I believe Point’s is more respected. Also, a BFA MT degree could fit just as well in the career focused column as accounting and not be thrown in with the rest of L&A just because it has arts in its degree. I would take a long hard look at the facilities though. I would doubt much improvement will occur to them without a significant outside benefactor (the next LMM perhaps?) writes a big check.
I know that somewhere along the line someone had posted a list of some of the known “one decision” schools… and now I can’t find it. Anyone able to share that?
@artandtechmom BG is best known around here as the artsy school and great teaching college. Many go there to get music (band and vocal) teaching degree. I don’t know specific info because my d wouldn’t apply - it is in our back yard and she refused to audition at a safety school anyway, but she has friends there. As a matter of fact, my sons ex girlfriend just graduated from BG with some kind of MT degree but she is more into the analysis of scripts. And believe it or not when she was in high school I think she took classes (including MT) at Heidelburg (she is from Tiffin) so I could get more info from her because I don’t know anything about that one. Message me if you want me to give you her info. She is in NY now interning as a dramaturg – she worked at a shakespeare theatre in NJ last summer.
Oh my goodness! Thank you all for the outpouring of support!
@theater9969 Do you mean schools that give one decision for both academic app and artistic acceptance? Like CCM and UM. Syracuse I think too.
@MTdreamz, thanks for that info. Very helpful. I will message you as well
@pegski I’ve got one stuck in Ohio because of the weekend weather. She’s missing work this week and if we get what they predict, next week too. Wanna trade kids? lol If you have to contact the school and see what they suggest. Schools have dealt with this before.
@Dody5678 do you remember the name of the hotel you stayed at near CCM? Similar situation for us this weekend. Anticipated snow event possible (too soon yet to be sure) and I would like to go ahead and make a reservation just in case. We only live a couple of hours away so originally weren’t intending to spend the night. Anyone with input is greatly appreciated!
@Kristiern1 For auditions at CCM, my D and I stayed at Fairfield Inn & Suites, Uptown/University Area …it’s within walking distance, which makes it nice!
@Kristiern1 yes, like BrennaK says, Fairfield Inn & Suites, Uptown University area. Great location!
Question re 8X10 colour headshots: border or no border? Name on front or not? If border how big?
These are the life and death decisions that now seem to consume our spare time?
@CanaDad my D’s Headshot had narrow borders at the top and sides with a wide border on the bottom. Her name was printed within the border at the bottom. (Border was just white)
@CanaDad I think it is your preference about borders. We were encouraged to have my S name on the bottom. We did no border & his name on the bottom right.
@CanaDad we were told it is completely personal choice. We went with no border and her name in the top left corner because it looked the best there. There is no standard answer!
Hello! Does anyone know where the CCM for MT auditions are held this weekend at NY Unifieds? My D got a confirmation of audition, but it did not list where…
@Dody5678 Thanks for the info! We are staying at that same hotel Hoping to thread the needle weather wise and get this first audition done. Plus we have family there that we would love to get to see while our son has a busy day. He is confident and excited! These kids have nerves of steel–I have so much respect for them all in this process!
@CanaDad As stated above, totally personal preference, but definitely make sure name is on HS in case resume and HS get separated. That is standard for printed HS. For digital, not as necessary as file name should be actors name.
