I highly recommend the train in and back to the airport! The last time we were there we had a ton of luggage and we were tired so I thought we’d “treat” ourselves to a cab ride. As the umpteenth train whizzed by us and we sent frantic texts about being late for dinner as our cab SAT stopped on the freeway I said to my husband words he rarely hears: “you were right, I was wrong”. He wanted to take the train, lol. It really is far superior to driving if you’re heading into the Loop area.
If you have the time - it’s quite a long read - check out this now-closed CC thread: “The Process: Our Year-Plus Long Odyssey Getting into a Musical Theatre Program.” It’s the good, the bad, and the ugly of this process, as told by the father of a Class of 2018 MTer, and it’s entertaining as well as informative. Enjoy!
Did anybody get an email from West Connecticut today RE: acceptance? My daughter hadn’t heard anything from them at all up until now and then today she got an email saying Congratulations on your acceptance and that the welcome packet from the dept. is in the mail, but it is not MT or BFA-specific so she has no idea if she was accepted to the program (they said acceptances would go out 2 weeks after unifieds and it hasn’t been quite that long). We are cautiously optimistic but wondering if anyone else has some intel? She also says that was her worst and most awkward audition of all 11 that she has done thus far, so if she is artistically admitted it would be pretty ironic to have it be her 1st official acceptance. LOL.
Chicago has excellent transportation. Ways to get from O’Hare to downtown can be found at free tours by foot. I believe it’s the blue line that runs from O’Hare. There is also choose Chicago and smart destinations. For food there is Chicago eater and choose Chicago. Chicago is known for the Chicago dog and deep dish pizza. I will warn you that they have been having some issues on the magnificent mile with gangs. Smash, grab and run with stores and lately stealing the coats off of people. Just stay aware of your surroundings. There is a lot of things to do and see in the loop.
@CanaDad you can catch the train from ORD without having to go outside. It goes straight into downtown. No connections. We are getting in very late on Sunday night (fingers crossed), so we will probably do a cab, but I hope to take the train back to ORD. Have done both directions many times and it is much less stressful than a cab at rush hour. I want to say it is 45 minutes or so… but it’s been a while.
@El-Cee My D received the same email from WCSU. I think that is the academic acceptance. At our parent meeting at Unifieds, Tim Howard said that the University acceptance will come separately. The MT decision letters will be sent out after their last auditions on March 2nd, and you would get an accepted/rejected/waitlist letter. Congrats to your D on the WCSU acceptance and hope your D receives an artistic acceptance from them next!
Thank you @MTdreamin - my daughter thought Tim said they would begin at 2 weeks so she was like “ok what exactly is this email?” Thanks for clarifying and here’s to hoping both girls get an artistic admit in a few weeks
Has anyone heard from Montclair that went to NY Unifeids?
Got the email from Cortland (NYC walk in audition) that if I apply and get into the school I’m in for the BA MT major. Feeling lucky to have options at this point in the game! The program seems small and more up and coming. I was wondering if anyone knew any info about it?
@El-Cee I auditioned for WCSU and Tim said that they would send out notifications in March, but their website still has old info saying that they would notify within a few weeks. I also got the academic acceptance today; when you have to audition for the major those seem useless but it’s nice to make it past the first step!
My D got the email from WCSU today as well and emailed back to ask if that included the artistic admission - no response yet but I expect it doesn’t.
@musicaltheatre77 No word yet from Montclair.
@Canadad - you get on the blue line right inside O’Hare and take it to Monroe - no train changes. That’s the stop just around the corner from the Hampton entrance.
@CaMom13 Oh no! I paid ahead for parking across the street from the Palmer. Driving sounds like a nightmare. I guess I won’t be using those in/out privileges.
@KAT67 Yes!!! We have literally put everything on hold until after Unifieds. I’ve had my Etsy store on vacation since fall. My D and I are working on something practically every night.
Last night we went to dinner with our two older daughters. My husband insisted we did not talk about college stuff at all during dinner. We could only talk about what was going on in everyone else’s lives. Which was REALLY REALLY hard, because D got her first yes for a BFA yesterday. It is for an acting program instead of musical theatre, but we’ll take it for now! Unfortunetly…we stopped the application process for this particular school when she got a no from musical theatre, so we now have to hope her high school gets her transcript to them by February 1st, so she can apply for scholarships.
@Tulsa-Mom congrats to your daughter and family! Any interest in sharing where the yes came from?
Congrats @Tulsa-Mom’s D and to @mthopeful99! Also to @collegeboundSam’s S! Celebrate the Yeses!
So with the arrival of the Polar Vortex, we didn’t have mail delivery today. Anyone else in the same boat and thinking “there could have been an audition result in the mail”? Not sure what is more stressful . . . the preps and the audition process itself, or waiting for the results!
@Eastchestermom, I just read The Process… It was a fantastic. I told my husband and son they need to read it!
I wonder if he has done a follow up. I would love to find out what his son is up to now.
Hi! I’m new on here and wish I had found it sooner! I don’t know if this has been discussed before but I didn’t see anything about it - Does anyone know who the head of the MT program will be at UArts? We were told that the current head is retiring. Any info would be appreciated!
@myloves, any insight into the above UArts question?
@Mark80 It’s all stressful! Wait until you have to schedule accepted campus visits in and make the final decision! While filling out local scholarships! Then, dorm and freshman orientation selection in June.
