The Class of 2023- sharing, venting, discussing! - MT

Just one more insight into this Syracuse thing. They mad it very clear during our info meeting (on campus, 2/1) that they had made this proposal and it was approved well before they thought it would be. So they are flying a little by the seat of their pants this first year. So this year only the program will be made up of exclusively MT candidates who are redirected. In future years

In future years it will be a program like any other that anyone can apply to.

@ZukAndSowash - Question about what you heard about Syracuse: is it a third program with an additional 20 or so students? Or will these “Special Voice” students reduce the numbers in the current Acting program?

Congrats on all the awesome acceptances! Break legs at those upcoming auditions. Has anyone’s D/S had to cancel an audition for a school they really like? Any regrets or “what ifs” from the D/S?

I wouldn’t write Wright State off - it is an excellent program that the faculty and students are passionate about (my d doesn’t go there but has friends there and we have seen several shows - impressive talent and great dancers)

@MomofJ5 they said that the new program would be part of acting. There will not be additional places for this program, so yes (at least this year) it will reduce the number of acting spots this year (though how many they plan to put in there was not clear).

Remember, and please remind your talented sons and daughters, that quick “no” after an audition can simply mean that there’s a student in the current freshman or sophomore class that looks and sounds just like him or her.

@peacemama congrats! Did your s do overtures?

Congrats @lithpool and @peacemama!!

@EastchesterMom @CaMom13 @NewToThis13 Thank you for the well wishes! And anyone else I may have missed! It is such a process. And we are SO grateful for each and every acceptance! We have been lucky to have started with early acceptances, which I think, gave us a little breathing room throughout this process. I wish each and every one of yours a YES (soon!) to give you a little peace too. It will happen! And your child will end up where they are meant to be.
We are still have a couple of auditions to go, and still waiting on several responses, as well as financials, then we can begin the comparisons and release some schools. (IMHO, the cost to go to college is astronomical, and even with some generous offers, some schools still aren’t feasible).
Thank you again to all on CC who have helped guide me throughout this current process, and providing me with information and knowledge on how to work through it all over the past year or so! I’ve learned a lot!

@lithpool as discussed previously on this board, don’t hesitate to ask for more money if the #1 school is out of reach.

@lithpool , just an FYI…I spoke with the head of BFA at Viterbo Matt Campbell. They are deciding on additional talent scholarships in mid-March, so hopefully, you are in the running for that on top of any other aid admissions might offer. Viterbo went to the top for us because it is very reasonable compared to other schools. The lower cost can hopefully offset the extra travel $$ to Wisconsin if we accept.

At many schools the kids fundraise to help defray the costs of the showcase. They sell candy, have bake sales, and now, with technology, GoFundMe campaigns. Point Park has always had a NY showcase, but it used to be by audition only. Now, starting this year, all BFA students attend.

@TexasMTDad Thank you, yes! Planning on doing so. Figure it can’t hurt to ask…but I really have a hard time imagining that a school will give an extra 10k+ on top of what they’ve already given. However, the worst they can do is say no.

@collegeboundSam Thank you! S applied to Viterbo a little later, as it was a walk-in audition, so we are still waiting on any/all financials…but totally agree that the cost is a little more palatable. (but then shirk at the planes/trains/automobiles to get to/from! LOL) I like easy, straightforward, one flight options, however, we will make the right fit work.

@CanadianMTgirl Thank you! I’m sure we will have questions!

@lithpool , @CanadianMTgirl CanadianMTgirl has been very helpful answering questions re: Viterbo. Thank you

@imchrissieg Thank you! No, he did not do Overtures.

Congrats to all of the folks who have gotten some acceptances in the last couple of days! Still holding vigil by the mailbox on the daily basis in anticipation of audition results from the final 2 schools for my S.

@CTDramaMom I’m interested in people’s thoughts on auditioning or not for senior showcases. On the one hand, of course you would like everyone the opportunity to showcase their talent to industry professionals. On the other hand, at Syracuse (I think) they gave some written info about why they audition for the showcase - short version, they have found that if the showcase runs over an hour, the invitees start to lose interest or even leave, which is unfair to those who come later in the showcase program. Thoughts?

@ZukAndSowash my personal opinion on showcases is if they have it for one they better have it for all. If the school selects my D and then bills me for 4 years of training it is a failure on their part if at the end they say she isn’t good enough. If she doesn’t get any gigs or representation as a result of her showcase, so be it, but that better not be for the school to decide.
