The Class of 2023- sharing, venting, discussing! - MT

I hear you, @ZukAndSowash! Luckily my daughter who is a rising senior is interested in engineering. Actually pretty good to have the boy in musical theatre and the girl in engineering as far as opportunities.

@TexasMTDad Kudos! Some people have all the luck! :))

@Divamamacita - Wow, just wow. You and @artskids get ALL the respect!!!

@TexasMTDad - Engineering apps will be piece of cake after this!!!

Hi everyone! Do you need to fill out CSS or can you wait for an acceptance and then fill it out? What is usually the deadline for grants?

@thespis1 the deadline for filing the CSS varies by school but for most of them the deadline has already passed. Most of the deadlines were Jan thru Feb. 15th. We have 1 school on our list that deadline isn’t until end of March. So you would need to check on your schools. Also most schools have a financial aid deadline of March 1st, which means you have to apply by then to be considered, even though you won’t have an artistic decision from some by then.

@Divamamacita Wow! I can’t imagine doing this with twins. Hope they both get great options!

Big envelope=redirect…sigh. More waiting!

@MTSongbirdMom ugh… well, it’s not a no.

Does anyone have info on the Helmerich School of Drama/university of Oklahoma audition?? Website says 2 monologues…audition time total of 2 minutes…wondering if this is a hard two minutes and if they actually time them. My D’s monologues are 1 min cuts each but she takes about a min 30 for each…thank you!

So is a redirect legit or does everyone get one? My D got one at Millikan, with a rather passive aggressive “not everyone gets one.” Funny thing is, everyone we know did get one.

Lol @NewToThis13 ! Okay, well if there’s an academic admit process and you are admitted - how could they not redirect you? I guess if you don’t get into the BFA program and you don’t make the grade for the college academically?

@NewToThis13 the only official redirect to BA my d got last year was from Millikin, so I wondered if you had to audition to get into their BA but I never asked (I would have if she hadn’t gotten a BFA acceptance)

A redirect usually means that you were accepted academically but not artistically. The school still wants your tuition dollars, so they try to get you to accept, often by dangling a hefty financial aid offer. Some will keep pestering you for quite a while… Pace is one of the more persistent (and I’m being kind).

@NewToThis13 It is nothing new for any school to redirect from a BFA to a BA program. Yes, you do have to audition to get into their BA program, unless you auditioned for the BFA program and were redirected. If you go in to Millikin as a BA , you can petition to move up, so the door isn’t completely closed. Yes they are accepted academically and artistically, just not to the BFA program but to the BA program. Like many schools they have a limited number of opening for both the BFA and the BA program. They keep all their classes small and always have, in every subject.

@MT bound - 1:30 is too long to run if they specify 1:00 minute. That’s true for almost any school. Only exception is when a school specifies a total time for your two monologues combined and let’s you go longer on one if the other is shorter (which a few schools do). But in general you want to time your monologue delivery close to the limit they ask for. So if you’re coming in at 1:30 delivered, I’d cut that shorter.

Anyone hear from Penn State who was at Chicago unifieds?

@MTbound My D auditioned in Oklahoma for them last year. She was a wreck about the timed pieces. Both of her monologues ran over and they do time them. She cut them, they were both about a min 30. They didn’t stop her. She did get accepted, but chose to go a different route. Good luck to your D!

@musicaltheatre77 I know of a couple of kids seeing results on portal last Thursday.

@musicaltheatre77 My S got a snail mail rejection a week ago. He auditioned st NY unifieds. He had not checked the portal prior to that, so I’m not sure if/when it was updated to show the rejection.
