The Class of 2023- sharing, venting, discussing! - MT

In addition to the 3 I mentioned, above, we are still waiting for decisions on two campus auditions plus 5 other Chicago auditions.

Otterbein (Chicago) - “still in the running” email last week.
PSU (on campus Nov) - deferred decision a week after audition
Mich (on campus in Jan) - no news

Chicago (no news) - CMU, Syracuse, Ithaca, Pace, TCU, OU, and Webster…

Milikin is his last audition on March 22nd.

For those of you who heard the (odd) “no” from Montclair today, when did you audition? TIA!
Stay strong everyone :slight_smile:

@MTVTmom congrats! My S was there on the 9th as well. I heard from my wife that there weren’t that many boys there so you could probably pick out my S if you saw him.

He pretty much knows most already in the program (was in multiple shows with them over the years). S got verbal offer on audition day with an email to be sent the next day. He didn’t leave with any sort of official letter or anything in writing. The email did arrive but it was less than an official commitment with just a ‘expect something from us before the end of the month’.

It got a little uncomfortable for me when he was getting congratulated by kids in the program on social media for his ‘first BFA acceptance’. He even got a text from someone saying their professor was asking about him and she wanted to know if he was planning on accepting. Bizarre to me when he hasn’t even been formally offered a spot yet.

Anyway, it was finally made official in the portal today and I can relax a bit. S has his first official BFA acceptance which takes the edge off a bit heading into the last weekend of auditions.

So that was our (quite different) experience. Glad both stories had a happy ending (beginning?) for your D and my S.

@DadOfMTboy my D got that same kind of email as well about “expecting something by end of the month” but thought it might have been something they sent to everyone who auditioned? As I said before we were not keeping our hopes up or reading into anything to avoid disappointment. Congrats to your S and thanks for sharing!

@El-Cee my D auditioned on Feb 2nd & email came today. Her academic yes came in early November, so the Congratulations at the top of the “no” email was a bummer. Still waiting on BFA Acting, because she tried out for both on the same day. My best to all of you. This process is not for the faint of heart.

@El-Cee Jan 26 audition

That’s interesting, @DadOfMTboy. And congrats!

Do you all think having current students in a program talk you up to the professors helps? D has friends at NYU, Marymount, and Ball St. but it didn’t occur to her to ask them to put in a good word. She probably wouldn’t have anyway, but I think she is naive to how much this business can be about who you know.

@NewToThis13 my son had a couple of programs ask if he knew anyone at the program. I can’t imagine that it would help anything to bring it up yourself, but I can’t imagine that it would hurt, either.

@TexasMTDad I agree. My son used a lot of different interview questions as the opportunity to “name drop” current students. Like “Why did you choose this school” or “How’d you hear about our program”. Then he could say - oh, I’m friends with so and so that goes here and she loves it.

The waiting game at our house continues.

Yesterday son received a redirect to BFA acting from Viterbo (Chi Unifieds) via email.

Today snail mail redirect to BA Theatre to Millikin (Chi Unifieds)

His girlfriend took him out for dinner to soothe the disappointment and while waiting for pizza he called me with report of an email acceptance from UAB BFA MT. That was better than pizza to ease the spirits. He also really liked the faculty he met during that audition!

Still waiting on 8 schools and last audition is this weekend at Ball State.

Positive vibes and patient waiting wishes to everyone! My old nerves can’t handle the wait!!

@Kristiern1 - assuming that email from UAB was a yes, Congratulations to your S!!! It’s very hard to wait but easier when the “will I get in” already has one Yes answer!

@CaMom13 thanks, I got a little excited in my typing. Thankfully we have some other acceptances already too, but options are awesome and also potentially good for the pocketbook!!

Just found out S is admitted to Rider MT BFA! Notice came via the portal. No email.

@BoolaBoola congrats on the acceptance!

My D got a phone call from Oklahoma with an offer this afternoon. First artistic acceptance! Woo Hoo!

@Kristiern1 UAB sounds like an awesome program. They are doing some exciting things. I really liked their energy and the approach they took in their info sessions with kids/parents.Congrats!

Btw. Our kids will know more than parents ever will about process acceptances declines through ‘kick ball change the world’ and other social media groups. Their acceptance lists are way longer than CC.

S just opened the mail and has acceptances from Millikin and UArts, both MT BFA. Its been a good day, needless to say. Into 5 programs now. Sending good wishes out to everyone!

@NewToThis13 he didn’t name drop at all. They all knew him ahead of time. Director actually said I’ve already seen alot of your stuff. Current students have played his wife in Nine and his mother in Billy Ellliot. You can probably guess the roles he played.

D received a redirect from Millikin for BFA Acting by snail mail today - auditioned in Chicago 2/2. This is her first acceptance… somewhat (haha). She was really excited and then realized it wasn’t for MT. I encouraged her reminding her that she could minor in dance or voice and still get training. I remember being incouraged that those in the BFA Acting can augment their training to get voice and dance through minors. Nice back pocket option I guess.

So far 2 no’s and 1 BFA Acting redirect. Still waiting to hear from 14 more.
