The Class of 2023- sharing, venting, discussing! - MT

Perhaps we have been super naïve but we have just answered that question honestly when my S has been asked. He hasn’t gone into a lot of detail but he might say for example, “I have been accepted into some local State programs and I am also looking at X, Y, Z …”

We were at Unified so clearly they would assume he is there to audition for multiple programs. He didn’t see the point in hiding it.

So is it true that FSU already filled all its spots but is still holding auditions this weekend? Heard a rumor that they only had 2 spots left before Chicago unifieds.

@frisbee3 where did you hear that? Have they contacted students? My understanding was they did not offer spots until after all auditions were done. I know the admissions director is on CC and answers questions in the FSU forum

  • perhaps you can post there.

I think “where else did you apply” is a regularly asked question. Maybe the kids’ answers or responses to additional questioning give insight about their personalities to someone who has asked the question thousands of times. I wouldn’t worry about it. Whatever your kid says in response is correct.

@KAT67 Thanks again. Just to be sure, this was an online live interview with a real person? Not just an online questionnaire.

@boola boola my D received the link for the online interview when she first applied and prior to her live audition. It is not with a live person but a series of pre-recorded questions which they then have to answer and it is recorded. We called BOCO when she received this and we were told that it was something new that was started this year and not everyone would have to do the interview. Today, my D’s friend, who auditioned on the same date as my D but never received the request for the online interview prior to auditioning, received the email with the link for the interview and it was exactly the same email that my D received months ago. Just FYI

@minicp Whew! Thanks so much!! I’ll check with my S. He would have told us about a live interview. Probably not about a questionnaire.

@frisbee3 I hope not! We just flew in for my daughter to audition on Saturday.

@“boola boola” it’s just as @minicp says…I think early on they sent the email for interviews to everyone, but they had a lot of technical difficulties…maybe they stopped for awhile? Everyone we know had to do it eventually.

@MTVTmom, while I have no inside information, there is no way a school is going to take the time to hold auditions if they have filled their class. I would not worry.

Woo Hoo!!! My son was on a waitlist to audition Sunday for Baldwin Wallace and they just called him offering a spot! Long shot school but so excited he gets a chance to see it and audition! 6 hour drive he will have to do alone however! We pray mother nature cooperates!

While you all are waiting for answers from the school, something to think about. Last year, we did not visit schools prior to auditions partially due to cost and partially due to the desire to not fall in love with those that might reject you. S had great connections with the auditors at a few of the programs he auditioned for and was very excited when he was accepted to some of those. The visit REALLY confirmed or denied that initial impression. In some cases, the connection/feeling in the audition room was significantly different from that connection/feeling when visiting campus/classes. So - while you’re stalking the mail man and checking your portals and email boxes, start thinking about possible school visits in April. Figuring out dates of availability and organizing might take your mind off the dreaded wait time. I’m rooting for you - and can’t wait to hear where your kids end up!

@pegski My son is auditioning on Saturday at BW, and is flying up alone. Gotta let ‘em go sometime!! Best of luck to your son.

@KAT67 Believe me, I’m having this discussion as soon as my S gets out of school. Thanks again.

@boolaboola, Ugh it is actually an 8 hour drive! But I’m sure flights will be outrageous at this late date. We have friends there he gets to stay with, so that helps  I hope our guys meet! Tell him to look for the 6’5" football player who can’t dance well! haha

@pegski Wow! Can’t miss that guy. I wish him safe travels. Tell him to look for the thin kid with tousled hair!

@boolaboola, actually can fly him in for about $350! When is you son’s flights? It appears BW is only 10 minutes from the airport!

BW is just a couple of miles from the airport. I think is was a $6-$7 uber trip. The neighborhood around BW is very safe. We stayed at a Hampton Inn that was super nice and new but was about 6-7 miles from campus. The MT program currently has the show “Once” at the Beck theater which is about 15 minutes from campus. I am sure it might be tough to do but get your kids to see the show Once if you can. BW has a very strong musical component to its program (It is a BM program) and Once really showcases that. My child was very impressed with BW

@pegski I live about an hour from BW; we are expecting 50s this weekend (rain on Saturday) so should be ok! And if you get the chance, to see Once, SEE IT. It is outstanding!

@pegski amazing!! congrats

@16or32bars My S is staying at the Hampton. Glad to hear it’s nice (and safe).

@pegski Wonderful that you got a good price on a flight! Much better/safer than an 8 hour drive. Sure hope our guys can see the show.
