My D heard a no from Shenandoah a few weeks after auditioning (she passed prescreens, good audition, but had a bad interview)
@FlaMTmom THAT’S SO GREAT!!! Celebrating with you!!!
@FlaMTmom Oh, how exciting! Congrats on Marymount Manhattan!
@PugsleyAddams Missouri State has two audition dates upcoming in NYC on March 9 & LA on April 17th. https://musicaltheatre.missouristate.edu/MusTheatreAudition.htm
I don’t know if this is too off-topic, but our minds were absolutely blown during our visit to Missouri State. It’s not a new program, but the director is less than 3-years-in and he is a total rockstar. Look up Robert Westenberg. We were wowed!
@CanaDad well the grapevine did not lie, calls have commenced (as per my daughter). The kids know before we do!
@El-Cee For Michigan???
Yes U of M
@MTmama42 yes for UMich. Hoping the best for those waiting to hear from this program.
@4angels also on faculty at Missouri State Department of Theatre & Dance for all BFAs are Joseph Price (Artsbridge & Minnesota/Guthrie) & Lisa Brescia - currently on Broadway in Dear Evan Hansen.
@PugsleyAddams @El-Cee Our visit to Missouri State blew our minds! They are on it, and their director is probably one of the most connected faculty in this whole business. Loved the town, too.
@El-Cee Based on what I have seen to this point…the calls are for Michigan ACTING not MT. Not sure if I don’t have all of the information…but do know of at least one that got the call for the acting program. Interesting times…interesting times!
@Kkrazie - Yes! And we were completely impressed by the alumni list, even without the new director. I’m telling you, they were impressive. Not the greatest facilities for theatre, but I’ll bet that is going to change. The actual campus is gorgeous.
My daughter was accepted to Shenandoah right after Chicago Unifieds (for the BFA acting). Not sure if MT acceptances have gone out yet.
Anyone else heard from IWU?
@KaMaMom With your daughter about to graduate, what kinds of things happen in the last few months of MT undergrad? Does she try to find a casting agent, what is this equity card stuff or grad school? I’m pretty clueless about how all that stuff works around the time you are in.
@4angels yes John Goodman comes back to Missouri State all the time and plays this campus wide game with the BFAs called “Finding John Goodman.” Kathleen Turner grad too. Fun.
@luvbloominroses My D’s friend was accepted into UMich MT tonight by phone around 6:30 EST.
@luvbloominroses IDK. my daughter has friends who have been accepted to Michigan for acting for awhile now, like over a week. I’m pretty sure she meant MT, as acting is old news at this point.
@NewMTDad … um, trying to find a good waitress job? =))
Honestly, I think it’s very individual to each grad - but my kid has her heart set on NYC, so she’ll be moving there this summer. Some kids are moving to LA, some Chicago … it depends.
But for her, right now she’s in rehearsal for the last mainstage of the year and they head to NYC at the end of next week for spring break. They’ve put together several days of workshops w/ guest artists, agents, casting directors.
She has her roommates in place and they’ll probably explore some neighborhoods while they’re there to nail down exactly where they want to live (I’m pulling for Washington Heights but I’m probably going to lose) - and they’ll sublet when they move this summer so they can get their feet wet.
She subscribed to Backstage when she was home for Christmas break and she has a ton of friends who are living and working in NYC right now … so she’s been picking their brains for the last year or so and figuring out a game plan that works for her.
As for grad school, I’m hard pressed to think of any acting major that I know that leapt right from undergrad to grad school. Voice majors yes, acting no. I’m positive people do … I just don’t know of anyone personally who has done that.
Also, my favorite part? THREE MORE TUITION CHECKS TO WRITE!!! :-h
