The Class of 2023- sharing, venting, discussing! - MT

Anyone hear a no from Viterbo? I’ve seen a few yeses, but not sure if they just haven’t sent rejections or if D is still in the mix.

@lithpool and @2019wolves have you heard academically from Temple yet? What does the TU portal say?

@lovebloomingroses RUN don’t walk to Texas State! and Congrats!

@lovetoact No Temple academic admittance yet. Portal just says they have received everything they need.

Molloy/CAP21 just posted this on their FB page: Today is “decision day” for all COMPLETE applicants to the Molloy/CAP21 BFA program! We will be sending decisions via email and also via regular mail.

If you have not received an email by the end of the day, this is likely because your application is still missing items (test scores, transcripts, etc…) Please contact Rebecca Overton at roverton@molloy.edu to check on the status of your application.

@luvbloominroses I would agree with everything @mtmom3girls said about TXSU. My D did Nexus the year before and would take the Texas State acceptance and run. But I know he may not have that connection yet and it doesn’t make rejection from a desired school any easier. Best of luck in his decision making process!

I’m sure this is relatively common, but I applied mostly to MT schools with acting as a secondary interest. I’ve done well on the MT front (2 acceptances to good but not top tier programs) but I’ve done really well on the acting front (not trying to brag, but 4 acceptances, 2 of them to top tier schools). I feel VERY fortunate to have these offers, and I am truly hoping every other kid on this board gets good news too because the no’s are truly so hard.

Is it better to choose a more prestigious acting school where you could potentially get MT training than a good but not top tier MT school? I know it depends on fit, but would the considerably more prestigious school award you more opportunities?

BUT my main question was if anyone has experience with a kid who auditioned for MT but ended up attending an acting program and if so what their experience was. Do they have any regrets? Do they feel like they can still get Music and dance training? If anyone has any experience with this (particularly pertaining to Ithaca or Otterbein) that would be greatly appreciated!

Keeping my fingers crossed for everyone on this board to get some great options soon!

@MThopeful99 Ds friend auditioned for MT last year and was re-directed to Acting at Otterbein and loves it. She is getting great training, still taking dance and voice. She has no regrets for not accepting the BFA school she also was admitted to.

@MTHopeful99, can you tell us the names of all the schools? It really depends on which schools you’re comparing. ( I gather that Ithaca and Otterbein are the acting programs, but which are the MT programs?)

My D says Pace is making calls.

Yup, Pace is happening. EeK!!!

@actorparent1 Ithaca, Otterbein, UArts and Wright State for acting and Viterbo and SUNY Cortland for MT

@mtmom3girls thank you so much that’s helpful:) do you happen to know what styles of dance she is taking and how many classes she can take?

@MThopeful99 I will have to ask my D when she gets back from OCU. All I know is that we saw her a few weekends ago and she was thrilled with her year so far.

@MThopeful99 - my D turned down MT at Syracuse, and the MT studio at NYU to and chose an acting placement there instead. She has zero regrets. I’d be happy to answer questions etc about her decision making there, though I cannot speak as specifically to Ithaca or Otterbein

Anyone know if PACE calls are for MT or their Acting programs? Or all?

@workinggirl25 Pace still has auditions this weekend for acting, so it is most likely MT being called.

@MThopeful99 I know kids who went to Ithaca for the BFA in Acting, even though their backgrounds and desires were in MT. I know they still could be in musicals there and still take dance and voice. While NYU is not in your mix (or at this point), I know a lot of students there who were in the acting studios who were MT kids who still trained in voice and dance and have had professional careers in MT (including on Broadway). So, a BFA in Acting is still an option you may wish to consider, but you are asking good questions.

@lithpool and @2019wolves my S had his academic admit about a week before the MT acceptance at Temple. Maybe admissions is still working on the academic portion?

@lovetoact That may be…it just feels like it was so long ago! LOL
Apparently, Temple’s last auditions are this weekend, so maybe after that…
