@MTmama42, so sorry. @DadOfMTboy, my D has loved this school since her first visit junior year. Love those purple Dukes!
Add the ‘Bleed Purple’ skill to Alexa. When your D is in the room say ‘Alexa, Bleed Purple’
Anybody else hear from Molloy/Cap 21 yet?
The phone call system for acceptances seems way more painful than it needs to be for everybody. I understand that programs want to welcome successful candidates personally. But with the kids all linked instantly on social media, one good news phone call to somebody generates stress and worry and an emotional roller coaster for literally hundreds of others. For hours or days!
I wish schools would say from the outset: we are going to release ALL decisions on “X date”, at the exact same time to all by email. You get a yes, a no, or a wait list. Then the program heads phone all the happy candidates at their leisure, but EVERYBODY ELSE can move on! The waiting in limbo is a killer
JMU - D is a no for MT and a yes for Acting!
@Brecktwins19 still nothing from Molloy/CAP21. Has only one person on here heard?
@krglaser Indiana or Illinois?
Hi, just wanted to give a little encouragement to parents and/or students because I know the stress of auditioning for programs and waiting for results. This is my second time going through this process. To make a long story short, I got offers from 2 schools, and accepted to one that was ultimately not right for me. I made the hard decision to take a gap year, knowing I would go through the audition process all over again the next year. I had so many worries; whether it was worth it to potentially be let down again.
The gap year gave me time to prepare and learn from my mistakes. In the end it was absolutely worth it. So far I have been accepted into NYU Tisch and Marymount for Musical Theatre.
So sometimes a ‘no’ is really a ‘not yet’.
Break legs everyone!
Still nothing here for Molloy/Cap21 either. What exactly does the end of the day mean? (Plans to be refreshing email until midnight, lol).
There are schools that DO notify everyone at the same time, no matter the result. I also far prefer that. That’s what NYU does. That is also what many non-MT colleges do (such as was the case with my non-MT applicant D).
By the way, when my kids applied to college, there was no Facebook or social media groups for this kind of sharing. They didn’t know what was happening with other kids. There was CC which I read though, but not the kind of social media things like FB like there is today.
@MTHopeful99 - You’ve got some wonderful options from some fantastic programs. If you decide to pursue the Acting BFA, there are other ways to get voice and dance training. Our D, who was actually in MT, wanted even more dance training than she could fit in her school year schedule. So she spent a summer during college in NYC in BDCs professional semester. She got great intensive training in several different dance disciplines and felt ahead of the game when she returned to school. If summer study is not appealing, most schools will usually have an option to pay for dance or voice if you cannot take it as part of your regular curriculum. The issue there could be finding time to fit them in your schedule. My main point is there are other ways and places to get dance and voice training if you need it to supplement what sounds like some incredible options for actor training. And I’m a strong believe in good acting being key to long terms success. A beautiful voice with poor acting skills will probably not get very far.
I would make your decision based on which school is the best fit for you overall - personality, training, location, budget, etc… I would also really look at the schools and see how the different majors interact with one another. Talk to recent grads or current students. There are some schools where MTs get preference in casting, classes, etc… But at others all majors are treated equally. So find out the real scoop about that.
Congratulations on having such terrific options!
That’s all I saw.
@MT2023d When did you hear from NYU Tisch? Were you Early decision? Still waiting over here…
Wait list from Molloy here. D is thrilled it wasn’t another rejection! We will keep our hopes up!
Ok I have to ask, D was accepted to two programs where she would be very happy , but not sure we can afford either one. Unfortunately none of the more affordable (if thats even a thing) schools have come through so far. Am I the only one in this situation? I went from worrying there would be no acceptances, to happy, to worried she will only get into super expensive programs and they wont give enough scholarship to be a realistic option. My worst fear is having to say no because of cost.
@musickidmom February 14 for Early Decision ll
@NoMTinMD I feel the same way. If state schools, foreign schools, or scholarships don’t come through, it’s going to be tough.
My D just got Molloy/CAP21 BFA MT acceptance email
Congrats, @BrennaK !!!
Yes for my D at JMU for MT- go Dukes!
