@Jerseymom99 thanks so much! Do you happen to know if acting students have the option of potentially adding more dance? Thanks again, your response was super helpful and reaffirms the vibe I got during the information session. Feeling pretty excited about this!
@MTdreamz your note made me cry. We have had a roller coaster of emotions at our home, so you are not alone…so hard to keep perspective and realize that this is not a life or death situation and that our kids (with their passion, talent and smarts) will each make their own special path to fulfill their dreams (fancy school or not). So many great actors dropped out of hs and never even went to college!
@posivibes re: JMU- there was no notification at all. Didn’t know any results were out until checking the portal based on someone else on CC said they found out. Even in the portal it isn’t very obvious until you click on the tab within the portal that says College of Visual and Performing Arts. There under DECISION it said Admitted. I hope you find out the same good news!!
@posvibes @KBreedlove re JMU: We also did not know results were posted until checking the JMU admissions portal last night after reading on CC that results were posted for the EA admits. S was accepted to MT and was thrilled to get the good news. Hoping also for the same good news for others!
@Divamamacita - Re:Hartt
My S received a very nice personal email from a faculty member indicating that he would soon be receiving official news of his acceptance. A few days later, on 2/21, he received an email from the Director of Admissions that said “We enjoyed meeting you at your audition/interview! We have completed the review of your application and are pleased to let you know that you have been admitted to The Hartt School and University of Hartford for a major in Music Theatre!”
Fingers crossed for everyone hoping that the Financial Aid e-mail is a good sign!
Hi everyone. I haven’t posted in quite some time, but I’m the mom of a current MT BFA sophomore. The number of us who still check in and post words of encouragement and information reflects the extent to which we remember these months when we were watching our budding artist go through this MT / acting application process. All I needed yesterday was to see March 1 on my phone and March 2017 came flooding back. (My daughter received her acceptance to the program she now attends on the afternoon of March 31.) I recommend as many distractions as you can muster: do things you love to do—in my case it was putting down my books and watching classic romantic comedies and drinking wine with friends, but you get the idea. I am glad to see on the notification thread that a lot of schools have started notifying, and you should hear fairly soon. It’s also great that there are more and more programs that applicants are excited about and know will be a great launch pad for them. Keep busy, and know that you are not on the roller coaster alone. Some of us feel like we only just got off, and we are standing below at the carnival waiting to welcome you off and walk with you to survey the vendors’ various wares—maybe those original first choices, or last-minute added walk-ins, or a gap year to regroup with lessons learned—because now, back on the ground, it’s your performing artist’s turn to choose.
@DramaLlama18 - You are so wise! All of the kids will be colleagues in the industry someday. For the past several years I have scoured the Playbill for every show I have seen - both national tours and on Broadway. NO school has a monopoly on cranking out kiddos that will be cast. The performers are from all over the place. Maintaining connections is so important. There are a lot of places to get really good training. And, keep in mind that the auditors know their programs a lot better than any of us do. They are not just trying to find the “best” applicants, but the students who will be successful in their program. (Easy for me to say, as my S is finishing up his first year…)
@CaMom13 – My son’s acceptance at UNCSA came on April 24!
@EastchesterMom I appreciate the post and helping us manage expectations. I especially enjoyed the loving every minute of it part. Our D believes she is willing to dig all the ditches for the moments of joy. Great stuff!
@1bamom, I LOVE your image of us previous CC moms waiting below at the carnival ready to welcome everyone off the roller coasters and show them the vendors’ wares, i.e. answer questions about various programs and give advice! That’s exactly how I feel! I still have PTSD from last year, so I want to do anything I can to help anyone else’s journey be a little easier! (Even if it’s just empathizing with rejections and giving reassurance that they’ll find their place eventually!)
@posivibes Oh I’m sorry! didn’t mean to upset anyone - just to show I understand the deep sadness of going through this process. My d did eventually get accepted into 2 BFA’s out of the 18 she applied to - but they came after many many no’s and we had already started working on the backup plan. She was so upset by the time the yes’s came it kinda put a damper on it - she was relieved but not excited. Her confidence took a hit that she is still recovering from. She is at Ball State and having a great time living and breathing MT and learning so much!
@actorparent1 Exactly!—and thank you. To all of you: We remember. We are still here and hope we can be of some help.
@luvbloominroses My son is at TXST, so if you have any questions please send me a PM. He chose TXST over great schools, including CMU, and he does not regret his choice at all.
@posvibes and @KBreedlove congrats! Thanks for explaining the Portal, D was accepted to JMU MT and Theatre programs, so happy for her to have options in great programs like this one!
Not at all @MTdreamz , just wanted you to know I appreciated your comment and felt empathy!
“Word from the kids’ Facebook group, is somebody’s uncles friend’s secret mole told their neighbours kid’s grandmother that Michigan may start calling tonight.”
@CanaDad Even the kids got a laugh at your post. It got re-posted in Courtney’s Break Room. lol. :)) :)) :))
Utah emails are going out now. My daughter got a yes!
You’re on a roll, @katzenbogen! Congrats!
@DadOfMTboy
