The Class of 2023- sharing, venting, discussing! - MT

How do I find the list of musical theater schools with individual school discussions?

@mauidad - if you click on the words “Musical Theater Major” at the bottom of this page you will go to that CC folder. All the colleges with individual school folders are listed at the top of that page but you need to click into each to see if an active school discussion exists. It seems like most conversations happen on the Major page.

Has anyone heard from Montclair that auditioned in Chicago?

I haven’t heard from Montclair, but they also notified me that I’m missing a letter of recommendation so they couldn’t give me a decision yet. I think that was just from the university.

Seemed really quiet this weekend. I wonder if things will heat up when the weekend is over. Not that I care. ?

Have never felt more antagonist towards Uncle Vernon than during this audition season… (This quote has been stuck in my head all day)

Uncle Vernon: Fine day Sunday. In my opinion best day of the week. And why is that Dudley?
Harry: Because there’s no post on Sundays.
Uncle Vernon: (takes a cookie) Right you are Harry. No post on Sunday. Ha! No blasted letters today! No, sir! Not one single bloody letter! Not one! No sir, not one blasted, miserable-

@brennak love the Harry Potter comparison! Very appropriate!!! ?

@boola boola, might be a quiet week since several colleges are on spring break this week.

Regarding the May 1 deadline to respond to offers, my understanding is that all schools who are members of the National Association for College Admissions Counseling have agreed to the May 1 date. And that’s most schools. If uncertain I would contact the admissions office for clarification. My information may well be dated.

@MTmama42 Wonderful news! ?

@camom13 The one ‘yes’ she has is not a school she wants to attend after visiting, unfortunately! I think it’s a good program, but she didn’t like the surrounding area at all. The 2 WL are from Unv of UT (she was really hoping to get in there) and the other WL is Michigan, but for voice performance (she’d much rather do MT, but didn’t get in for that there). She is considering a gap year if UT doesn’t open up for her. Any experience with these WL schools and how likely it is that a spot will be offered? She still has an audition at Western MI coming up, and we are expecting no’s from 3 more schools based on how her others have gone (top programs Elon, BOCO and Unv of OK). I think she is just very discouraged but I keep telling her, she’s not alone. It’s pretty amazing the amount of talented kids that are turned away. There are just not that many spots available! Someone told me the OK had 3200 applicants, 120 passed pre-screens and 11 will get spots. I told her she should be honored she even passed the pre-screens there. Those are crazy odds, if true!

@mommyMT The one thing I’ve learned in watching the “acceptance process” is that its totally random. I would not discount Elon, BOCO or OK just yet. My D did not get into some Tier 2 programs but was accepted to Tier 1 programs. Crazy! What I have noticed is that she has done better at schools geared toward singers that act (voice is her strength) and not as well at schools that are more actors that sing. She also has done better at on-campus auditions vs Unifieds. So look at your daughter’s strengths and you may have some predictability there. Just keep moving forward. Best!

@MTauditions2019 there have been some yesses MT from Chicago unified.

@mommyMT - hang in there! My MT kid was in a similar situation at this time last year and was well into planning a gap year. Can’t believe he’s now almost through year one at BoCo!

D just got her acceptance to LIU Post via snail mail, over the moon!!!

@MTMomma13 Congrats on LIU Post! They’re a great program that many are calling a “hidden gem”!

This may have been posted before but do theatre kids get the shaft in general when it comes to freshman housing because they are the last to put deposits down at schools?

@NoMTinMD I think it depends on the school. Some schools have dedicated arts dorms (TXST does) so if that’s the case, its no problem. If they don’t then I think it could be an issue getting into the “preferred” dorm. Maybe a parent with experience at that type of school can weigh in.

@7CHDals I agree about UNIFIEDs - felt like it was not the best use of our time. The onsite auditions, as well as CAP United in Atlanta (a knew, amazing one!) were the most fruitful for us. Also, in regards to your D, what programs do you see as more “voice/vocal based” rather than acting or singing? Voice is also my D’s strength, and we have focused in on OCU, IWU, Otterbein (waitlist), etc. for that reason.

@CaMom13 OK got 3 times more applications than Michigan?
