My son (football player mind you) got he invite for poms as well from OCU!
I was rolling with laughter!
If you can afford to go and it fits in your schedule, I recommend you visit WL schools you are seriously interested in. I’ve heard enough anecdotal stories to think it would give you stronger consideration if a spot opens up. If a trip is not possible, definitely a note to the program director stating it is your top choice (if it truly is). They would rather extend offers where they get quick and painless commitments.
My D was accepted to LIU Post MT, Marymount MT, and Millikin BFA in Acting. We are waiting to hear from a few more schools and if she gets off any other waitlists, but she LOVED the staff at LIU Post and liked what they had to say about the program. We haven’t visited LIU Post yet. Anyone know anything else about the program or campus?
Anymore for Ballstate? We have not received a nay or yay.
@mtmom19 we are also waiting for Ball State results. They are on spring break this week so probably won’t hear anything until next week earliest. Fingers crossed for you!
@MTMom19 we are in the same boat - waiting for a decision from Ball State. D auditioned 2/23. I think I heard a friend got a redirect to BA from them last week.
@tnkdd We visited the campus prior to NY Unifieds. It’s located in a beautiful part of Long Island and has some gorgeous old buildings that were part of the Post family estate. We didn’t tour the dorms or anything like that, but we did get a walk through of the Theatre facilities with David Hugo. Some of the facilities have been renovated or are new, but most of what we saw was a little older, so therefore not as bright and shiny as some schools. However, they didn’t seem to be lacking in anything in terms of space. So the worn look is not a detractor for us. And we were very impressed with Mr Hugo and the other staff she met over the weekend at Unifieds. My D was very excited when we left our visit and the school is definitely on her list. I PM’d with another parent prior to our visit and his D is a freshman there and loves it. Hope this helps. Congrats to your D.
For those asking about Ball State, my daughter got a BA redirect last week (snail mail) so I would say no news is good news at this point!
@Tnkdd , my D also got an acceptance to LIU Post (FINALLY, her first YES for BFA MT!) and also loved the people she interacted with at Unifieds. There is a thread on the main page for LIU Post that had some good insight (short summary: called a ‘hidden gem’ and up-and-coming program, faculty/program are fantastic and top-notch, heavy acting focus but good in voice/dance too, broader school not as great, older facilities, etc.). Also interested in hearing if others have experience.
S auditioned in Chicago at Unified.
Re: OCU Pom letter- My guess is that it went to all accepted students for next year, regardless of major. Couldn’t guarantee that is the case, but that is my best guess.
Just fyi - little known facts at least we did not know about OCU before D went there for college:
Their cheerleading and pom teams do well in competition. OCU captured NAIA national cheer championships in 2014, 2015 and 2017 and the 2014 NAIA dance crown.
They’ve won 41 NAIA National Championships in a variety of sports including basketball, baseball, golf, track, tennis, softball and wrestling and they field varsity teams in 17 different sports.
So although performing arts majors make up a big part of the school, there are many other students and activities there. There is also greek life, all sorts of organizations for every type of interest, a law school and a nursing school among other things, so it is a pretty well rounded campus.
Can we form a waiting on Ball State Club?
Thank you for the information @MTBackstagemom and @CaliMTdreams. I’m actually looking forward to visiting NYC in a few weeks! This time with no auditions! Sounds like the two are VERY different college living experiences. I liked the Millikin BFA in Acting because it is a top tier rated program, but right now my D is set on MT and also loved David Hugo. Millikin also included a fine arts scholarship on top of the merit scholarship. Do you know if LIU Post offers Fine Arts Scholarships?
@tnkdd Her name is escaping me right now, but I did call the person who signed the acceptance letter my D received for the program. I asked her about talent scholarships. She says they have some scholarship money. At the time she said she needed to review my D’s audition results and also that scholarship money availability is dependent on who says yes or no to their offer - so a definitive $ amount might not be available until closer to the May 1 deadline. I would call. She was very pleasant.
@CaliMTdreams What school is that for?
@MTmama42 Sorry about that - that’s re: Post. I was responding to tnkdd question re: arts scholarships at Post. Lol…it’s hard to keep all these straight.
@CaliMTdreams

Yikes! That’s going to make it pretty hard to make a decision without knowing the final costs. Did she happen to mention how long it would take to review your D’s audition results? I guess I should make a phone call.
@Tnkdd @MTBackstagemom @Tulsa-Mom LIU Post definitely has talent scholarships, but not sure how many. They also have pretty generous academic scholarships.
We’re taking my D up there on Sunday for their Open House and they’re working on a tour of MT facilities for us. There is also an admitted students day on April 7.
@Tulsa-Mom I called right after my D rec’d her acceptance letter. The gal told me to check back in a week or so (I haven’t called back yet…lots going on…story for another day). Anyway, I kind of got the impression that they don’t have bottomless resources for scholarships, which makes sense, so they want a little commitment before offering much. For example, if they offer a lot of money to different kids right away it depletes the amount they have to give. And then if half those kids tell them in late April that they are choosing other programs, that frees up more money. Anyway, that’s the impression I got. I plan to check back. Especially once we get the formal Financial Aid proposal. Right now we’ve just gotten the academic acceptance that had the merit scholarship. I’m sure something else will be in the offer from Financial Aid. If we need more, I’ll definitely ask.
@CaliMTdreams My daughter was offered a small artistic scholarship a couple weeks back with her BFA Acting acceptance at Millikin with a 30 day deadline to accept scholarship. They are probably waiting for those to expire before extending more.
@afterp89 My D just received her acceptance to LIU! Did they arrange a MT tour for you? We are thinking of going on Sunday.
