@Tulsa-Mom I understand your concern. They have been pretty responsive to email with me. We will visit LIU Post on Sunday and hopefully get a better feel for the faculty in person.
Nebraska Wesleyan has had the best communication of any school my D has applied to. Her admissions counselor has called her at least 3 times just to check in and they have been very responsive to email as well.
I imagine the distance for us from Maryland to Lincoln is pretty similar to your distance to LIU Post from Tulsa. We’ve been so impressed with NWU that we’re going to fly her out there on her own to visit.
@Tulsa-Mom - it sounds like you called during a lunch break. I would give it another shot in the morning (students don’t like mornings). If you find someone more helpful, you can repay the favor by letting them know that they should train their students on financial calls to call back.
@Debolution Some decisions have been made for Wright State, and Pace, Baldwin decisions come out this Thursday. I’m not sure if more Pace calls have been made today?
@Debolution Baldwin Wallace is sending notifications Friday around 5. Only Fall auditioners have received some decisions. I know Pace and Wright have done some notifications.
@MTSongbirdMom Others have said that BW will announce on Thursday before 5:00. I’m wondering which it is, so I can get appropriately worked up that day.
Does anyone know the class size at shenandoah? Also, I know that schools accept more than they can take. How many people do schools usually take if they are looking for a class size of around 10 boys and 10 girls??

re: LIU Post - I’ve done some extensive reading since D got her acceptance her to get people’s feedback and experience and almost to a person it was that the MT program is excellent, faculty and director and engaged and responsive, training top notch, industry/professional engagement and opportunities are fantastic - and that the school and responsiveness are the struggle.
Take that for what it’s worth in terms of decision-making, but in reading some experiences one Mom was expressing her exasperation with the registration process before her D started but then her D LOVED the program and all of the other aspects of why our kids choose the MT program that fits.
@lithpool - thanks for the congratulations! It has been very stressful waiting for that first yes - my D said that she knew it was competitive but also said she hadn’t expected it to be as hard as it was. It’s funny how giddy you can be early in the process with passing pre-auditions with the big names - and how crushing it is when you realize that that was only a first early hurdle and the numbers dwindle considerably at the next cut!
@afterp89 - I’ll be very curious to hear about your LIU visit, the more we’ve read the more interested my D is but we can’t go until mid-April because of my D’s spring musical so we’re having to rely on other’s experiences in the meantime!
@NoMTinMD, when I appealed for more money at my daughter’s school, I did it by emailing the director of admissions. I sent a Letter of Appeal explaining that D wanted to attend the school, but we needed more money in order to do so. I asked for the specific amount that we needed, and I enclosed both her financial aid letter from that school and also a financial aid offer from another school that had made a better offer, to see if they could match it. The director of admissions then took that letter to the financial aid office to try to get more money from them, which in our case was successful. Go for it!
@Tnkdd I did my LIU Post audition on campus and stayed for the “interview” session and tour afterwords. Here are the notes I took down directly after my visit with my impressions from the day:
The campus is really cute and feels like a real campus although not many students were out and about while I was there. The students I met were amazing and were all very passionate about the program and the training they were receiving. All productions are directed by NY directors not faculty which is a cool way for students to meet and work with industry professionals. Students talked about having offers for work after graduation already from the directors who had come to campus to direct shows. Students learn a true process for approaching acting (a professor there learned directly from suzuki so there is a strong emphasis on that method but they do learn others and are encouraged to create their own process that works well for them). Students also take dance all four semesters. Tours and big name performers come through campus all the time and do master classes, so you get to work with awesome people. Their classical voice music faculty are not integrated into the theater dept and the program focuses heavily on contemporary and more “edgy” works so your main focus is on belting and contemporary theater and not on classical voice/theater. But students can sign up and pay for private lessons with a jazz or bel canto voice professor if they want. They accept a class of around 40-50 kids each year. Their facilities are somewhat run-down and their mainstage theater seemed more like a black box space to me but their technical elements and production quality seemed pretty good. Many students live on campus all four years (if you don’t have a car it is hard to live off campus) but they only have dorm style living. No suite or apartment style dorms. I really liked the people I met and felt super welcomed by students. It would likely be a great fit for your D if she wants strong acting training and a focus on contemporary work and pop/rock singing!
Why don’t more schools just do the mass email…yes, no, waitlist whatever… this is a horrible process and almost ruins the entire experience… what is the reasoning they offer this way…can anyone make sense of it all for me?
