The Class of 2023- sharing, venting, discussing! - MT

@32barMom we are in Ithaca limbo too. According to the IC Peers on the portals…there are 25 acceptances. 17 boys and of course only 8 girls >:P 119 kids in limbo hell…of course once again 85 of those waiting are girls.

@theaterwork - Thank you for sharing about your D switching gears! Do you mind saying what she switched into? I saw you mention still theater related! I’m so excited to learn about ALL the opportunities our kids can have with this foundation.:slight_smile:

@NoMTinMD I will join your MT AA Group!

Anyone else seeing the humor in BW sending notifications out at 5pm? I’m envisioning them RUNNING for the doors and away from the phones the minute they hit “send”!! :))

@NoMTinMD I would like to attend your meetings, but I am not ready to admit that I have a problem nor commit to abstinence. Perhaps I’ll be ready on April 1st, unless my S is on a waitlist.

@NoMTinMD @pegski @“boola boola”
I agree with all three of your last posts!! LOL

To support the lottery analogy - it’s a good visual to google images of “XX school BFA class of 2022” - in many cases you can see how many accepted and entered the freshman class (not yield to get that number, yield police!), male/female mix and blend of “looks.” And consider that programs are balancing all these factors, plus talent/specialty, of each class with the classes ahead of them. BW = 11 female, 11 male. Penn State = 11 total MT BFA’s and just 4 female. Michigan = 11 female, 11 male.

It is not unusual for kids to switch majors. Even BFA only schools like BOCO or Uarts see it. Uarts gets a lot of transfer into the MBET program (music business engineering and technology). Most kids don’t even know that a major like that exists until they get to a college. Kids also switch to Directing/Producing, Costuming, Stage Manager,etc. All kinds of options at conservatories. If my D had wanted a non-theater related option she would have had to switch schools, which would have been fine.

@penny1234 my d is switching to a public relations /communications major. since she already has a theatre minor its helpful if she wishes to work w/ theatre /arts organizations which she is this summer. She also will possibly add a minor in nonprofit studies which also is relevant to the arts thing. she will probably need to extend her studies an extra semester but she had a lot of credits going in from high school so that is helping. Even perusing the minors available at schools in the running would be a good idea. Add a arts admin minor, non profit studies, PR, etc. It is usually not that difficult at a lot of schools. And dont let your child think of it as a backup plan! they will fight you on this…I know this already from senior yr. Just approach it as “theatre people need to be well rounded” or “you cannot perform forever so you need some other things to add to your degree”…

I just thought it would be helpful to someone that maybe has a kid who has considered other majors to know that it is not the end all be all to just be an MT major. I mean your kid is 17/18…that is a very tough time to just choose what you want to be! It all feels very rushed to me. Maybe gap years are a good thing also for taking a year to reflect on what you want. they should probably be encouraged more, not less. We worry about “well they will never go to college if they take a yr off” and I do not agree w/ that assessment now. I mean a well thought out gap year could be enormous in terms of personal reflection & working a real job (which so many Mt kids have never done in h school-mine included), even saving some $$ for college to avoid student debt!

I think if you are a “theatre kid” you tend to think you cannot do anything else. Because if you have other interests people say you aren’t “dedicated” enough. this is true to some degree as you really have to be ready for the constant hustle you will have to create to get work. that being said, if you have other interests then that is also cool. My D finds that she would like to be well rounded at the end of the day. She was not ready to eat & breathe only MT. I think now, after our past 11 yrs in MT, I have learned SO much & really can see things form a different perspective. Our kids, if they truly LOVE theatre, will find a way to do it. It might be Broadway, it might be a regional show that pays, it might be the community theatre across town…it might be a cruise ship or amusement park show…whatever. I say to myself that if my D loves it she will do it still somehow. Sometime you have to leave something to love it again <3

So I’d assume all CCU emails are out? Do they do WL? How are you informed?

Lol! D and I were just talking about which schools she still had to hear from and she mentioned Webster. All of a sudden a Webster email popped up when she checked her school email! But it was just from the new admissions person introducing themself :)) This waiting is sooo painful! You almost don’t want an email unless its the RIGHT email…

I saw someone said BW announcements would be 5pm - which time zone, EST, Central, or PST!!

@32barMom They’re on EST, so that’s what I’m assuming…

@mtmom3girls Do you know if the new Webster admissions person is a replacement or an addition? We have had contact with someone over the last month-ish and I am wondering if he is still there…

@MD1235628 We heard back in November from Catholic. It was an early acceptance after remote audition

BW social media ambassador / current student said emails out at 4:45 EST

@Bubblewrap666 The Webster admissions person said she was taking over for the person my daughter had been in contact with.

@mtmom3girls is this Patti? At Webster?

@MTmama42 Minded too – but every time they send her an email they call her a different name. So we’re not even counting it.

@morgan830 her name was Elemuelle and she replaced Joelle for my daughter.
