@16or32bars - same for my son last year - except that his gifts were defintiely voice and acting, and not dance. His (and our) idea of “fit” evolved as we navigated the audition process. My guy ended up at an acting-centric MT program (actually degree is named “BFA in Acting/Music Theater”, but we found many similar schools that allow crossover, including: Syracuse, Otterbein, Ithaca, Miami, U of Arixona; as well as some standalone that still give good MT-realted training such as: UNCSA and SUNY Purchase.
So my advice - get enough of a head’s start and allow space to evolve the ideas of “fit”.
@MTmom19 Ugh… Well, guess we are hoping for a WL notification from Ball State then :-h
My D had a missed call from Belmont earlier this week but didn’t leave a message. When she called back they said they had a question, but figured it out. It’s so hard to wait - haha
@afterp89 , @MTBackstagemom My son was offered a spot in MT BFA at Ohio U with no talent money offered yet… :-?
@DramaLlama18 ~ Moderators have to add to the subform. They wait until there is senough chatter about a program, I think Utah now qualifies but…
@Kristiern1 - that truly is a head-scratcher.
@Kristiern1 re: Ohio U, it just came today via snail mail and we’re not too far away, so it may reach you soon. Or maybe they are going to give you such massive amounts that it took longer to print the material with all of the extra 0s!
@yellowheart at least the Emerson waitlist is not a no! Last year they took a large percentage of the class from ED - like 50% Don’t quote me on that figure, but it was high. Same for Northwestern.
@yellowheart My D received a Wait List for Emerson as well. Happy about that, but also looked askance where it says, “final decision to be issued by July 15.” Little late in the calendar for making final decisions lol!
@Kristiern1 - you may want to check the student portal at Ohio U - my S’s was just updated with a new scholarship. BTW - they changed platforms and it took a call to their IT dept. to get onto the portal today.
@mommyMT Wow Congrats on UM waitlist! My D is very happy at Western Michigan and it is an in state school for us as well. She loves her professors and feels she has learned a lot this first year. I don’t know how many they have auditioned this year and they haven’t moved to a prescreen yet. If your D has any questions, please feel free to PM me. The waiting is the hardest part but it is almost over. Fingers crossed for you and your D.
our scholarship came two weeks later
@mommyMT Just FYI, WMU doesn’t do prescreens but there is a cut on the day of the audition. They do singing/acting first and then you either get invited to the dance call later that afternoon or get released. Thanks goodness D made the cut that day, but it was a bit more stressful than some of the other on campus auditions we did.
@lojosmo what is the large list you are speaking of? is there a link? I thought just parents add schools to that list
@mamaboyz ~ Under the word Musical Theater at the top of the page there is an arrow to see the Sub Topics where there are individual school threads.
Did anyone else receive a rejection letter from Emerson that didn’t even MENTION the arts program? My S auditioned MT but was rejected by admissions. He called and found out this meant MT as well… If you are rejected from the program, does that always mean you’re rejected from the school as a whole? He has top merit, so I feel like he wouldn’t be rejected from the school as a whole. Very confusing.
Was anyone rejected from the program but not the school?
@lojosmo - just realized that I called my Molloy/CAP21 thread “BFA at Molloy College/CAP21…nobody will find it under Musical Theater.
@jacksmaxs - yes, I think several posters on the Acting thread said their rejection letters made no mention of the audition but said they could reapply later if they kept their grades up, which one person thought was appropriate and another said was not as her kid has an A average. My guess is if you aren’t accepted into the BFA you get a rejection for admission to Emerson. It’s how BU does it.
@jacksmaxs In a different year, my kid applied to the BFA in MT at Emerson and was accepted to Emerson and denied for the BFA. I thought that was still possible.
