At the parent meeting we attended at Emerson, they said that if you want to be considered for admission to a different major in addition to MT or theatre, you have to let the admissions office know at the time of application or at least some time before decisions are made.
@lojosmo not sure, but I think if you drill down to here http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/musical-theater-schools/
And click start new conversation at the bottom, that will do it.
@TexasMtDad ~ in the olden days… moderators added. It looks like it adds it to the discussion not the school list. There are no discussion started by entries.
There’s no point to adding new schools to the school list, anyway. A few years ago, each school subforum used to have a little icon that would change colour when there were new posts/replies in the school subforum. It made keeping track of where conversations were happening easy. Now, after a CC redesign, there is no such icon, and as such, the individual school subforums get far less activity than they used to. It’s easier (and better) to just post all discussions in the main Musical Theatre major forum now, so that people don’t miss important information. We’ve appealed to the moderators multiple times to bring back the colour changing icons to make the subforums more useful, but to no avail.
@soozievt om-g thank you for sharing…what an amazing and brutal story…sure puts things in perspective
@jacksmaxs At the parent meeting for Emerson the administrator said that admission to Emerson and admission into the BFA is one and the same…unlike others schools where you can still be admitted into the school even with a rejection of a specific program. He said they did not want people going to Emerson for other majors if they were rejected from the BFA although he did say if a student was desperate to go to Emerson in general … discuss it with admissions…but clearly it wasnt typical
I think there is certainly value in adding the up & coming schools to the “main” list, as newbies who are first beginning this MT-quest can get a synopsis of all the programs out there without having to sift though every single post. A program like Utah is certainly gaining enough traction now to warrant it’s own sub-forum (if that is what it’s called?!) and also I know that Western CT has a lot of buzz but no section of it’s own either. I would love to see both of those programs up there with the other more established ones!
I posted this on the acting thread too but I was wondering if there are any other parents here that have a current BFA Acting student at Wright State or a current BFA Acting student at Baldwin Wallace? I would love to PM you and ask a few questions. Or if you could PM me. Thank you!
Can anyone help pointing me in a direction where I can find some information about some of the lesser know programs. My D applied to 10 programs all required auditions. So far 3 yes BFA MT at Drake, FL Southern and BA MT at Loyola NO. Two no and five TBD. Loyola’s program is relatively new but there, music and theater programs are fantastic, but I can’t find much independent information regarding the MT program. FL Southern and Drake have well established programs but again not a lot of independent information out there about these either. Assuming the remaining 5 are NOs, I think my D knows what she will do, but we still would like to find out more information. ANY THOUGHTS ON WHERE I CAN LOOK?
@MD1235628, we also were admitted to the FL Southern Program and spent some time on campus including an extensive campus visit and sat in on a class, private meeting with Dr. Christianne Roll. Can I help you with any questions?
@jacksmaxs , when we were at Emerson they said it was an all-in-one admit. If you made the BFA program, you were in the school, but they didn’t academically admit first and then admit to the BFA. If you were rejected from the BFA, you had to call admissions to see if you could reapply to another major.
anyone know status of Wright State offers and/or rejections? have not received any communication since November
@Debolution D received a WL for Wright State Acting by snail mail last week. I feel like I haven’t seen many people posting about Wright State.
@Debolution @mtmom3girls D got a BFA Acting acceptance by snail mail on March 4.
For those asking about adding schools to the sub topic list, I believe a couple years ago when people were asking about it the moderator said there was a limit to how many sub topics you could have and so no more new schools could be added. I don’t know if maybe there is a school on there now that is not getting much attention that could be removed and Utah could be added.
Didn’t Santa Fe close? So that one can definitely go. I also don’t remember anyone ever talking about UC Irvine but maybe I’ve missed it.
@Debolution I would have your child email Victoria Oleen at Wright State and check the status. D emailed to set up a visit and ask a few questions and she was quick to respond.
@mindatwork I heard that too. You make a great suggestion. Why have it pinned up top if it’s program is defunct
@Debolution Wright State - my son and daughter auditioned in January. My son got an offer - snail mail big envelope two weeks ago. My daughter got a WL yesterday, small envelope snail mail. Hope this helps. The waiting sucks.
@Debolution got a message from a current student yesterday that not all notifications have gone out yet from Wright State
