The Class of 2023- sharing, venting, discussing! - MT

@mtmadre I think you’re instincts are right. But I’m if the opinion that this really is my S’s ride, and I need to let him learn by doing things his way (within reason). So, in this case, while a call might be best, an email isn’t terrible. I’d probably give my best advice, then let her decide. Just my two cents. ?

@mtmadre If your D is like mine she’s probably hesitant because kids don’t call anyone, they text and snap. If it were me I’d try and convince her but ultimately leave it to her. Maybe she would Skype with them?

After so many 90 minute phone calls with girlfriends ending with “no, you hang up first” I can’t imagine why our kids are so hung up on actually talking with people.

And they don’t know why we still can’t take decent selfies @afterp89!

@mtmadre if she’s developed a relationship, she definitely should call. We take every chance we can to make our D use the phone when appropriate. This millenial generation has grown up without using phones hardly at all. Feeling comfortable talking to authorities is a good life skill to develop.

How was the offer extended? By phone or by email or portal? Was it specified how to respond? I would perhaps respond in the same method as the offer was made unless directed otherwise.

I’m a CYA kinda gal, so I’d put it in writing, even if you do call first.
But agree with others to make your suggestions, then let your student decide.

@lithpool we know three kids currently in the program at UAB and one who is committing to UAB for next year. They are wonderful faculty. The one girl who is currently a sophomore was cast as Tracy Turnblatt in Hairspray at UAB this fall - so a lead her second year! They pair kids up with a Broadway mentor. They are currently doing an original show Lots of good things to say about thatbprogram

@lithpool @gatorbridget I was so impressed with UAB’s information session at Chicago Unifieds. The faculty was wonderful and they seem to be doing some really exciting things with their new works. Their music director was on the producing team for Hello Dolly with Bette Midler and she is co-producer of Chasing Rainbows. And the price is very reasonable.

Congratulations to everyone on many great acceptances! Does anyone have any insight on how many students are eventually accepted from the Emerson WL?

Has anyone gotten any need based aid from Roosevelt? My son will be the 4 th of my kids in college at the same time. For the next four years we will have 4.3, or 2 in college together. I’d like to retire while I’m still breathing. This tuition is the biggest yet with a small merit scholarship.

@CaMom13 I know, right? Mine always come out looking like, “Is this thing on??”

@mauidad My D was accepted last year and it was one of her final two schools. They did not budge at all with the aid. :frowning:

@mauidad I hear ya. We will have 3 kids in college at the same time, and one is planning on going to Med School afterwards, so we have a long road ahead of us. We may never retire! There is no way that we could possibly pay all these tuitions without merit scholarships, grants and financial aid. So of course, schools that give more aid are weighed more than others, out of necessity. It’s crazy what it costs now - I think my entire 4 years of college cost less than 70k!

@gidamom I would love to know as well any info about Emerson waitlist! It’s my DD’s first choice! Just glad to still be under consideration should they move to the waitlist! ???

@mauidad Last year we asked the department if there was any artistic scholarship money available- they basically said a little might become available but don’t count on it. Thankfully she chose the less expensive option LOL And we told them she was our 3rd in college at the same time. Not really their problem! hahaha

@sedaley my 4 years cost less than $8,000! ?

After living one year in Florida I was considered in state - my books cost more than tuition (of course this was a long time ago LOL)

@sedaley I think I got out of college for under $15k, but living off campus.

@gatorbridget @ac2680 Thank you for the info. Every little tidbit helps! Pretty cool about the broadway mentor! And I totally agree that they were fab a unifieds!

@SoCalPops @afterp89 I agree completely! I will admit to preferring email for correspondence, but I think this really warranted the personal call, since they also extended a personal acceptance call! Done and did! And she’s so relieved to have it over with… as is this tired-of-this-process mom!
