@vvnstar offer was extended by phone… and when they last parted after the campus visit… she said, i hope you call me soon! So… it’s now done and did! So relieved to have crossed the finish line!
I don’t know why our kids are so phone reluctant. I see it more in S17 than in his 8 and 9 year older siblings. Anyway, when S17 has to make an important call, I sometimes practice with him before hand and/or help him develop a script for the call. Since he’s in theater (tech end), the idea of a script comes naturally to him. I have to LOL at the idea of Skyping instead of making a phone call. I would NEVER skype anyone, anywhere, anytime and I don’t do selfies.
My S is so “out there” on stage. But when it comes to phone calls, advocating for himself, even asking questions, he finds it incredibly difficult. It’s something we are working on with him. I know that many other theatre kids are like that. So “big” and uninhibited on stage, and so reticent to “take chances” (as they see it) otherwise.
At the risk of sounding like an old lady (although I actually AM an old lady; don’t tell anyone), I think kids these days have lost the art of conversation and active communication - they spend every waking moment on their cell phones and thus are accustomed to passive communication, such as texts, emailing, and social media. At least our kids can express themselves through theatre - I really pity the rest of their generation.
How about this? I went to Pace, class of '86, back in the days where they had no performing arts at all. The tuition then was $4000/year!
@marg928, I believe it because I applied back then too! I was HS Class of '87 and Pace was know for Accounting & Business! That’s why I couldn’t believe it when I was researching MT schools with my son and Pace’s name kept coming up again and again! See, you can reinvent yourself!
Hey everyone, I think our kids have similar experiences regarding personal interviews and phone calls. I have seen my son go ALL OUT on stage, doing things, singing, taking situations that I would be afraid to address in the “real world” and handling them with eloquence, clear diction, no “uh’s”, etc…But when it comes to phone calls or personal interviews, he locks up and is all about one word answers. I imagine that the stage is their outlet to be the expressive when they can’t in the real world
@NYKaren yep I had a similar experience when my older daughter was researching dance programs several years ago. Someone mentioned Pace to me and I must have looked at her like she had three heads LOLOLOL
My D’s UNCSA portal was finally updated today with a rejection that also suggested she reapply next next year and that her audition/interview showed promise. Assuming this is the standard rejection form, but I’m curious if others rejections also suggested they reapply the following year?
My daughter is so much better at this thing than me…She had a good round of yeses in the beginning and now has been hit with 3 nos in a row. My heart drops with each one and she’s like “it’s ok…next!” :))
@CaliMTdreams What a blessing! Your D is going to be AMAZING at this career if she can process rejection in such a productive and positive way. But I’m with you… My heart drops with each rejection too :((
@Abutilon - I believe UNCSA has two rejection letters and your D got the “good one”! Not everyone gets the letter suggesting they reapply.
Kudos to your D @CaliMTdreams !
D’s spring break is the first week in April. We are still waiting to hear from 5. How do you think her sending an email to say in nicer words than this ,“hey am I still being considered because if so I will come and visit” would go over?
We got an e-mail from CMU Office of Admissions with the preview line of “We would love for you to attend…”!!!
But after opening the e-mail, th rest of it said “…Central Methodist University”
@ @CaliMTdreams thanks! Good to know!
lol @Jpkcmo
@NewToThis13 I would have your student send a friendly email…I don’t think being polite, and asking is a bad thing. (I can’t see someone who was considering a student for a scholarship say Oh My Gosh, no scholarship for you bc you followed up politely w an email! LOL)
@Jpkcmo Oh MY! I would imagine that would feel like the rush of just before the roller coaster drop!!
@Abutilon my daughter got the same letter from UNCSA and reached out immediately. She emailed them over 2-3 weeks ago and hasn’t received any response at all. The fact that they didn’t even respond was very disappointing to me
D just got an email from NYU. All results will be out 3/28!
For those of you whose kids have been accepted to BFA Acting programs make sure you head over to the acting thread if you aren’t following it yet: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/theater-drama-majors/2074493-bfa-acting-class-of-2023-preparation-prescreens-auditions-questions-and-support-p117.html
