@MTmama42 I had a pretty in-depth conversation with the woman from Millikin during the Chicago audition. She made it very clear that the BFA Acting track has lots of opportunities for training in all 3 disciplines. For instance, she said that all dance classes are open to acting students. The only difference is that you might have to wait until your second year to take some of them, etc. The productions are cast from a mix of MT and acting students. I think it’s a great option!
Congrats on all the Millikin acceptances!
@MTmama42 Hi! we are having a terrible time deciding. My D was accepted into the Millikin BA in Theatre and Dance, and also into the MT program at IWU. Wesleyan is coming up too expensive, but I think we can afford Decatur. Do you know of any insight on whether the BA students sing and dance as much as the BFA students? I know they can all sing each semester, but not sure on the other differences.
@4angels - did you look at the BA theatre plan of study? Looks like 3/4 of the classes are academic freshman year and 2/3 for sophomore and junior years - which is totally reasonable as it is a BA program.

I think it’s unlikely that any BA Theatre curriculum will offer as much acting/singing and dancing as a MT BFA. What I would look at is how many performing arts electives your D can fit into the BA schedule at Millikin and if that is sufficient for her.
Anyone know when Missouri State will release their notifications?
Feeling the frustration many have over the last month or so. Regarding Western Michigan we have seen several people post acceptances to MT and even some acceptances off a waitlist to MT. But we have not heard a peep, yes no or maybe. Wondering why they do this?
@Kristiern1 - I have no inside info but here’s what (to me) is likely: schools like W. Mich may suffer from unpredictable yield - they are good enough to attract talent but those talented students will likely have other options and W Mich isn’t guaranteed to be the top choice for their top students. They are pushing for early commitments from their accepted list so they can “set their class” and then they’ll let everyone else know that the answer is no. If they don’t get enough firm commitments they may accept or waitlist more applicants. They certainly aren’t doing anyone any favors in the process.
Any word on Miami? It seems a lot of people are getting acceptance decisions to the college. Wondering if BFA will come out at a different time.
Looks like Miami decisions are available on the portal (no email) as per the MT how/when/where thread.
Yes @CaMom13 @NoMTinMD my D’s portal updated with a MT decision. She got a WL for the BFA, redirect to the BA. The letter said to the school at large 38K applicants for 2100 spots!
Need honest input. Is Emerson worth $73k per year?
@Debolution - a lot of people ask this question about a lot of schools. The thing is, “worth” is subjective. 73K a year in debt is very different from 73K sitting in a college fund waiting to be used. I don’t think any undergraduate school, anywhere, for any major is worth 300K in debt because that amount of debt will cripple a student. For performing arts, that goes double. But that’s my opinion. If it’s not debt financing then you have to ask - what would that money otherwise go to? What are your other options? It’s really a very personal and detailed question.
@Debolution I don’t think that is an easy question to answer. Is it the best fit school for you. Do you have the money? Will it burden you with so much debt you will have to work 3 jobs and can’t audition?
@CAmom13 Well that’s a little discouraging. Thanks for sharing though!
@Kristiern1 My daughter is in the same boat as you. She’s feeling very confused and conflicted. This need that she maybe should have heard by now isn’t helping. We like their program. Let’s hope for the best!
@MT2k19mama - we’re pulling for good news for your D! It ain’t over till it’s over - those words were never truer than when applied to BFA acceptances. Hang in there.
For Miami, rumor has it if you go to Canelink mobile and it says cancelled, you are rejected. Next!
@NoMTinMD my D’s is not cancelled but just has nothing in the messages except that her application is complete.
Finally something from Pace! Alternate… The waiting is excruciating. So far 5 yes, 4 waitlists and a lot of no’s. Is march over yet?
@katzenbogen I’d just keep checking and call on Monday. With 38K applicants, it probably is taking a bit of time to get it all out there. From reading on the main Miami forum it seems not everyone has heard and that they are sending decisions to all applicants across the entire university today.
It’s a no for Miami. Next…
