The Class of 2023- sharing, venting, discussing! - MT

@NoMTinMD @CaliMTdreams LOL! I have no idea, but my daughter likes the socks ?

Wait you actually get socks in the mail?

I don’t think the socks are a sure sign of rejection @NoMTinMD - it just happens that they show up at the same time many people get their artistics "no"s. Yes @mamaboyz - socks come in the mail from Montclair. @NYKaren - maybe you shouldn’t have canceled the audition, you too could have gotten the socks too!

@NoMTinMD I wouldn’t be to concerned about being sad tonight when opening the sock envelope. The rejection notification definitely came via an email saying there was an update to the portal. So there shouldn’t be a rejection in the actual sock package

If we get a sorry you were not admitted should I wear the socks for a week, box them up and send them back?

For Montclair my D was a walkin at LA Unifieds. She really liked the people and vibe and wishes she had it on her list earlier so it didn’t seem like such a last minute thing. At this point we’ve heard nothing other than a communication I had about waiving the online audition fee (since she auditioned in person in LA and paid the fee there). So we’re just waiting…for socks.

I would be interested in a thread that listed all the MT schools and rated food and housing at each. This decision may come down to that being a small factor in the overall picture

@hfstt201 and @MagsmomMT2019 and @mamallovesllamas --feel free to reach out with any questions! I’m a Viterbo MT alum (c/o 2018) and actually almost changed my major to acting at one point for a variety of reasons, one of them being that I knew how strong the acting training was at my school. I can definitely provide info on all aspects of the department.

@collegeboundSam would love your thoughts on Missouri State. I can’t find too much here.

Gotta love the Montclair socks. Duly received here too. Not sure if for Acting rejection consolation or for us rejecting their academic offer

@4angels & @collegeboundSam here is the MO State thread. May be helpful. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/musical-theater-major/2072969-missouri-state-springfield-bfa-mt-program.html#latest

For Montclair, the two “checked” boxes… I do not see them when I go on the portal. I am looking at the admission checklist where it has all the items you submitted and there is a green checkmark next to them. My daughter called last week bc she never got an academic acceptance, and they said they have not reviewed her file … just auditioned 3/23 and no socks.

@hfstt201 I may be able to answer Viterbo questions. I actually attended in the '80s (I’m old) and it’s at the top of my daughter’s list. Viterbo is a super small campus. There are literally only a handful of buildings which surround an open green space. I don’t know where you’re coming from, but La Crosse is a great small-ish community. One of the draws to Viterbo for us is that it’s not the only school in town. University of Wisconsin-La Crosse is also in town (which is where my husband attended for undergrad and grad school). So even though Viterbo’s numbers aren’t big, it feels like there are more kids around than you would expect. My daughter has two friends there in the MT program, and they both seem very happy. Let me know if there’s anything you would like to know. My daughter did not get into the MT program but is weighing other options there. Decision time is coming soon!!! My daughter always feels like it’s a great fit when she’s there.

@collegehelp! The “checked” boxes appeared after academic admission. One is for OOS students accepting in-state tuition and the other one is if you will attend Montclair if you get accepted in your auditioned program only or regardless or if you decline their admission offer.

@NYDreammom Thank you. I’m not sure when she will find out anything being she has not been academically admitted yet. Her file was complete since Dec. We wait…

@SB252001 We were just at Millikin this weekend. My daughter auditioned for MT but was offered a spot in the BA program. It’s my understanding from the website that the BA is non audition and only BFAs are audition. We liked the campus and vibe more than we thought we would (despite getting the “no” for MT). We shall see…

Hi Everyone. Q1: Are there similar threads as the one that @Kkrazie posted on page 358 for all of the MT programs? I’ve found one for Molloy, but I can’t find the same sort of thread for UArts or Hartt. Any help out there?

@ZukAndSowash, at the tippy top of the MT page, there are a lot of schools listed (but not all). UArts is here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-arts-mt/ and Hartt here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-hartford-hartt-school-mt/.

Hope this helps

Q2: Today, we received a nice, informative letter of financial aid from Molloy. In that packet they list all of the possible grants, the ranges of awards, renewability, etc. It’s a very nice document. So, my question is, how have people approached schools to ask for more aid? Their offer is nice, but it still leaves me scratching my head as to how we will afford these next four years! Additional info is that the offer puts Molloy on pretty close to even terms financially with another offer. Do people lay down all their cards with these schools and say “here’s what XYZ University is offering. Can you match/beat that?” Any advice is greatly appreciated, especially from veterans who have gone through the process.

@SuperDooper I was at Millikin last weekend as well! I may have saw your daughter! My mom and I also liked the campus. I’m thinking maybe their BFA program was already full? (Since they do rolling admission) but I guess we’ll never know
