The Class of 2023- sharing, venting, discussing! - MT

@katzenbogen and @KAT67 my daughter is waiting on USC also. How do you know that the acting callbacks went out? Also someone else posted a while back asking about Shenandoah; my d also passed her prescreen but is on a waiting list to audition…hope that works out for you as well!

@afterp89 last year at Unifieds I’d walk my daughter to elevator give her a hug and quick word of encouragement & wish her well. Then went back to room. She told me if she needed anything. One day signed her up for Vitterbo walk in b/c she was too busy. But otherwise she wanted me available (in hotel room)but not right outside audition areas. She said it was good not to have parents linger outside audition areas. She literally saw parents with ears to doors and it didn’t help those kids having parents displaying that kind of forcefulness. Some parents got too pushy at listings & sign up tables. So let them fly and go forth and conquer. Remember all reps from schools aren’t just in audition rooms. They are on elevators with you & general gathering areas. So be mindful of loose talk. So one can stay in hotel room easily or find a comfy corner and let your auditioner come to you when needed.

@mtnyc19 My D got her USC BFA Acting audition invite/callback Monday night. I posted this the BFA Acting discussion thread…http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/21867365/#Comment_21867365

Oh that’s exciting @SoCalPops ! Congrats!

Congrats, SoCalPops

@NYKaren it is possible. We visited on Tuesday, Aug 28. I really can’t remember who was with us, LOL, so many visits. Congrats to you as well. Naz is high on the list. I love Corinne A, the department head. Opinions???

@MToverload , @NYKaren My son and my wife and I really felt great about NAZ. We are fortunate to have an offer from Catholic as well, and with more auditions in January, we are still keeping NAZ at the top of the list. It feels “comfortable” as well as a thorough training program. How do you feel?

@caralf1 my audition is on 2/23. I plan to cancel it over christmas break so hopefully someone (if not you) will get it!

@SoCalPops Congratulations to your D!!! Hope we hear soon for MT!!!

has anyone looked into CU boulder’s new BM in MT program? I feel like i may be the only one since its brand new this upcoming fall,

@ZukAndSowash not time to panic yet! Here is some of what I observed last year for you and some other comments I read:

  • Passing prescreens tells you your child has one more shot at that school. That is about it. If they got accepted to a lot that is a good sign but there are no guarantees. My d passed a lot of prescreens and her BFA acceptances were from 2 schools without real prescreens (Ball and CCPA)
  • How you feel the audition went doesn’t always matter - simply doesn’t determine what will happen
  • Having a strong voice is the most important thing at most schools so he should get an acceptance somewhere so try to get some sleep - the waiting is the hardest part.
  • Dance is nice and may make you a good fit for some schools, but Voice is important at all schools. Being one of the best dancers in the room will probably not get you into an MT program. I know this from my D’s experience
  • Being in a show should not be a higher priority than training or auditions. They DO NOT care about how many shows you have been in (as long as you have done a few to show it is something know you want to do) and once you have been to college the shows you did in high school won’t matter. All they care about is your audition. I think the biggest reason those with more experience like professional work or regional theatre do better is because they are more comfortable in the audition room and it shows,
  • lastly, I honestly don’t think it matters if you are sitting in the hall with your child during Unifieds. First of all most are. Secondly, the people in the room dom’t know who is in the hall, The person letting kids in aren’t deciding who goes to school there (unless you are obnoxious LOL) I was helping my d with paperwork at a place she was accepted to, If your voice and acting blows them away and they are interested in your type - they don’t care about what shoes you have on or if your parents are sitting outside.

These are just what I wish I knew last year. It comes down to most of what you worry about doesn’t matter and all you can do is wait for results. That is why having a backup plan is so important. whether it is a GAP year or BA program or non-audition BFA, so you can sleep at night knowing what comes next if things don’t turn out the way you want. And I wish we had done that before our panic mode of over 10 rejections before the acceptances.

My child is a MT at Catholic. As @NYYFanNowMTdad mentioned, the program is incredible and highly respected. Feel free to message me with any questions.

@DramaLlama18 @type1mom @toowonderful @Mark80 @CaMom13 @afterp89 @El-Cee @mamaboyz Thank you everyone for sharing your experience. It is all helpful. I’m relatively new to this site and just knowing that we are all or have all gone through this crazy process and lived to tell the tale gives me a measure of calm. @toowonderful “spontaneously combust”…exactly how I feel. Thanks for the honest humor. @CaMom13 “Just Breathe” is my new motto. Thank you.

ELON: after reading some of the posts on Elon today I would suggest that people who haven’t heard get in touch with the school. Elon said that people who auditioned in November would hear by mid-December. My son (along with many others) received a no on Tuesday. Clearly, some have received a yes. In the no message Elon stated that “we do not operate a wait list,” which to me says by mid-December you get a yes or a no. I can’t imagine that the are still thinking about whether someone is a yes or a no.

@ZukAndSowash and all - keep telling yourself, the auditioning is the fun part! So take this special time and try to relax and enjoy it. The hard part is waiting and enduring the no’s after the auditions are all over and you’re hoping for a yes from your favorite(s) and/or fit. You’re trying not to compare your situation to anyone else’s, comparing it anyway, etc. It’s a looooong process, so no freaking out til the end of February :)>- Then this thread will balloon to 300+ pages! I highly recommend planning something special in March as a distraction.

Well our MT journey may have been derailed. D is seriously considering a gap year. After her friend’s death a week before her first audition in November and her first redirect from that audition, her anxiety set in. Then she got nos from her two pre-screens (not surprising since we had to record right
after she lost the friend…her brain was elsewhere). Then unexpectedly her Granddaddy passed away last Friday. She’s just not sure she’s going to have the mental strength for this season. That said she has a little over a month to regroup. But I honestly think it may be the best thing for her to try to enjoy the rest of her senior year and just focus 100% on auditioning next year. We are leaving the decision to her. Anyway I just wanted to pass this along. Congrats on all the acceptances, break a leg to all waiting, and may everyone have a Merry Christmas/ Happy Holidays.

@MTSongbirdMom best of luck to you & your daughter. You’re wise to let her choose her path. So sorry she’s going through a difficult time.

In case anyone here is still waiting on Otterbein prescreen results, my S just heard back this morning with a Yes. Yippee!

@MTSongbirdMom Wishing your D strength, and happiness, no matter her decision.

@MTSongbirdMom I am so sorry to hear about what your daughter is going through. Wishing her peace as she makes her decision that will be best for her.

Congrats to your son @lithpool , I know you’ve been anxiously awaiting that one. =;
