Can anyone (especially current or past students) comment on Wooster’s extreme liberalism? My daughter is very apolitical and it’s just not her vibe at the moment on either side. Some folks on forums, including a student on here in the past, who consider themselves liberal have said that they feel “not liberal enough” in the eyes of many students.

I certainly want my daughter to experience diverse views and learn from them and she’ll make her own decisions as time goes on but she doesn’t need to nor want to conform at this moment in life, if forced to.

Any comments or experiences?

It probably depends on the group the student is part of and friends they make. I would call my son center right/libertarian thinking international. He has not experienced any extremes on either side. Most of his friends are sports recruits though.

I have a sophomore at COW who is quite political and she thinks it’s pretty politically diverse. BTW she really likes it there.

We are coming out to officially visit Wooster next week. Anything we should do that isn’t part of the school tour to get a good feel for the school/area?

I know this is a strange question, but the issue has come up on other threads. What’s the deal with bats in the dorms? Is it a real problem? Wooster is on my DD’s short list, and I was just wondering if it is a real thing. Not a deal breaker, but just curious to hear from someone who actually goes there.

Oddly, I am wondering the same thing about the bat problem. And honestly, not something I ever thought I would have to be concerned about, but I have noticed a number of articles online about the bat problems they seem to be plagued with. My son and I fell in love with the school and the soccer program on our college visits last year. He applied early decision and will be playing soccer there this coming fall. But I would like to know how the school has addressed and remedied the situation to ensure the safety of the student body.

I looked online about the reports and the only thing I can find are articles in 2022…so maybe there isn’t a problem anymore? :man_shrugging:

Hi Jina:

I don’t know specifics to your questions as my daughter is checking the school out next week. We like we we know about wooster so far (good academics, small, PhD focus if that’s a possibility, easy access to professors) but not much more than that.

Downtown Wooster has come a long way since I was there in the early 90’s. I get back to visit every few months so am familiar with the current options. Good selection of coffee shops, independent and local restaurants, pubs, etc. Liberty Street is the main drag downtown and Market Street has a lot of my favorite places to frequent. You can park at the intersection of those two and wander a few blocks in each direction to see what you can find. If you have questions regarding specific recommendations, let me know. Hope you get some beautiful weather and enjoy your visit! The College of Wooster is a special place and gave me a wonderful education and outlook on life. Have fun!

It still happens. I don’t believe it is very frequent. May be a couple every year… Students are told about guidelines to reduce the chances and also in case if it happens process to follow. Slightly scary part is the bite marks are very small and can be easily confused with a small rash and missed.

Congratulations. People are good and it is easy to make friends especially if you play some sport even if casually. There are many clubs also. Since 66% are out of state and 16% international it is sort of a melting pot for the whole of USA and internationals.

Did college tour and overnight on Monday and Tuesday. Very welcoming and daughter liked the school. Small (if you like that) made for things to be very quiet between classes. She also did a chemistry class and liked it but it didn’t tell her much being just one random class.

Dorm room was more impressive than online pictures. Dining hall was nice. Loved the many different libraries with many different study spots. Layout of campus done well with lots of green space. Daughter loved the science building with the old on the outside and new on the inside.

Everyone was pleasant. The town is nice but small and quiet. We arrived on a Sunday and almost nothing was open. Asked about it and told that Sundays and Mondays lots of stuff closed. If you want a small good school where you get to know a lot of people, a pleasant designated campus only 15 minute walk to town, with nice dorms and buildings then this is a place for you.

If you’re looking for something with larger school spirit (not that Wooster doesn’t have spirit but the size limits that relative to a larger school), bigger sports, and more action then may want to be sure.
