Twin A got the full strength vaccine. Twin B got a placebo.
(This had been our guess also since Twin A ran a low grade fever – 100º-- the night she got her vaccination while her sister didn’t. Also when the both got covid, Twin B was much sicker than her sister–104º fever, vomiting and a full week of lethargy/ not eating/UR symptoms. Twin A got sick 4 days after her sister --and everyone else in the household–ran a low graded fever for three days and was over it.)
Twin A is scheduled to get her real Moderna covid vaccination on June 29th at their pediatrician’s office. (Yay! They don’t have to trek downtown to the study site!)
EDIT: Got it backward–Twin B gets her covid vaccination next week. Twin A get her CDC proof of vaccination card.
Oops–got it backwards. Twin B will get a covid vaccination; Twin A gets her CDC proof of vaccination card.
Both twins had 2 doses during the study so Twin A is good to go. Her sister however will need to get 2 more shots to get current.
And yes, based on our family’s experience, the Covid vaccine for young children does work.
The vaccine they got was based on the original + Delta variant. What they had was the omicron variant as proven thru PCR testing.
BTW, the common symptoms post-vaccination in young children are low grade fever (under 101º), fussiness, fatigue. Per Moderna, Children’s Tylenol or Advil is OK to give if the child has any fever or discomfort.
This is fascinating and helpful information, @WayOutWestMom ! Please thank your twins and their parents for helping make this happen for all of our kids.
Well, 3.5 yo GD that was due to get the Pfizer vax has Covid this morning. She woke up with 101 temp, but feels ok. She did crash on the sofa this afternoon while listening to her newly purchased Toniebox; this is the kids that doesn’t sit still unless watching tv!
We were all together at the beach a week ago, and SIL also tested positive; he is in the UK for his grandmother’s funereal, so will stay with his parents until next week. His parents both were positive over the last 2 weeks after a cruise, so he is better staying at their home than exposing anyone else. Don’t know if GD and SIL had the same exposure. It has been 7 days since we were together, and everyone else is negative. SIL has a scratchy throat, so tested, otherwise he feels fine.
My D plans to keep GD’s appt Monday for Moderna, unless either one of them have symptoms or test positive.
GS, 3 years 10 months, got his first Moderna dose this morning.
Their HMO couldn’t indicate which vaccine would be given so DD found an alternate (a bit of a drive away) clinic specifying Moderna. Now that the first dose is in, HMO will schedule his 2nd as Moderna.
Grandson turns 6 months on Monday and will get his vaccine at his 6 mo Dr appt Tuesday. Both parents are physicians so are always worried about bringing home infection from the hospital, so this will be a huge relief.
@Hippobirdy Sorry if I wasn’t clear. I have 2 GDs; my son has a 3.5 yo, and my daughter has a just turned 3 yo. My son’ daughter is the one that was Covid positive on Friday and missed her vax scheduled for Saturday. My daughter’s daughter will be getting her vax tomorrow.
So disappointed. GD3 and GS1 tested positive two weeks ago. Mom is a healthcare worker and brought it home after an outbreak in her office. The whole family came down with it, including this grandma who flew in to babysit on what turned out to be day zero. Everyone has thankfully, now recovered. I had the mildest case of our crew, which I attribute to having had the second booster in April-PPPm. I never had a fever and they all ran 101-103.
We were all looking so forward to these little ones being able to be vaccinated protected and then this happened. Timing is everything.
I’m so sorry, @my-3-sons ! We were so worried about that, as GD came down with something right around the end of school, but luckily turned out not to be Covid. D really wants their regimens to be done before they go on vacation later in the summer, plus she is looking at a possible new job meaning more day care for both. So I totally understand the disappointment! Glad all our recovered now!
My Nashville 2yo GD got her first shot on Saturday. The two in FL are anxiously awaiting vaccine availability there. Edited: Should have said the FL parents are anxiously awaiting availability. Not sure the 4yo and 1yo are looking forward to shots
The bouncy unicorn was at a friend’s home. It scared the Toddler, so the grandpa made more cheerful eyes and smile so it’s a more friendly looking Unicorn.
