The Grandparent Thread

GD’s daycare (2 year olds) has set of 4 of these bouncy animals. The kids absolutely loved it when the teachers would put them out.

Grandson got his Covid vaccine today, 1 day after eligibility! His thigh where he received the shot is sore, but otherwise fine so far. What we were all really excited about was his weight. At birth he was in the .02%, now at 6 months he is in the 23%.

@CottonTales - so happy to hear that your grandson got his vaccine and that his weight is now at 23%!

My almost 18-month-old granddaughter got her first vaccine yesterday! Today, she and her parents are flying to our vacation house!! Can’t wait to see them all.

Hoping the ‘dead virus’ Covid vaccinations move along - evidently stalled. This is DD/Family preferred route for vaccination. DD’s family is not keen on the current vaccinations. Adults have previously had Covid early (before vaccinations became available) and also have had other meds. 4 YO GD had fever last Saturday and the entire family (2 parents, 3 kids including 10 month old and 3 YO) tested positive for Covid. So they have isolated this week and then move forward. We see them Friday - we have had Covid and have had vaccinations; will wash hands a lot and not touch my face. I believe we will be OK.

I also want to thank @WayOutWestMom and her family, especially the twins! :heartpulse: :heartpulse:

GD (3) got her first dose (Moderna) tonight at the pediatrician’s office. She was a champ! She has a summer camp day tomorrow and I will be caring for her in the afternoon, so I will report back with any side effects.

22 month old GD got her vaccine last week. Her mom said the only side effect seemed to be taking a longer nap the next two days!

Twin B got her first Moderna covid vax yesterday. She had zero side effects and was more upset about mom ripping the band aid off than getting the shot itself.

Younger 3 yo GD received her Moderna vax today. This was her first shot in her arm, as according to my daughter, the pharmacies no longer give in the thigh once a child turns 3. Seems there was a older child in front of GD not liking having his vaccine, all the time GD is asking, “Is it my turn? Is it my turn?” She did great! Hoping she feels well overnight; she has never had a problem with her regular vaccines.

GD has been doing just fine after her Wednesday evening vaccination. She is three and did get hers in her thigh. D said they had a great set up including ‘Frozen’ music in the parking lot and lollipops at every turn. GD did try to tell me that she didn’t need a nap on Thursday because she had a shot yesterday. I told her to try anyway. She sang for about thirty minutes and then closed her eyes.

GS and GD are at summer camp three mornings each week. They are in different groups but got to sit together for outdoor snack / singing yesterday. They were thrilled! One of my greatest joys is watching how much these two little ones adore each other.

Yes! Thank you @WayOutWestMom to your family (esp. your granddaughters!) for helping further medical knowledge on the covid vaccines. Thanks also to @compmom who is participating in a covid antibody study!

@hrh19 You have one that sings also? My GD sings in bed during nap and bedtime; can be for a hour. When you ask if she took a nap, she is know to reply, “No, I just sang.” :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

While GD felt fine this morning after her vaccination, school called at 11:30 that she was running a fever. Hoping it is just from her shot, although one of her classmate’s mother has Covid, and it is possible the child is also positive; daughter is waiting for an update.

Update on GD-She refused dinner and bath, asking to go to bed. She was asleep by 6:15 (with no singing) and slept for 12 hours. She is a new person today and back to normal!

Another big thank you to @WayOutWestMom and her daughter and grandchildren. I also love all the sharing of newly vaccinated grandchildren. My grandchild is not 6 months old yet but I know my daughter is pro vaccination so I look forward to the day I can post.
Another good news in our family is that we will be welcoming another grandchild to the family in late December. We are all very excited.

Granddaughters (3&1) vaccinated on Wednesday. Their whole family tested positive for Covid this morning.

They had a lot of close calls but finally ran out of lucky. Looks to be mild so far

@tx5athome ~ That is unlucky! I hope their symptoms stay mild.

Oh no! That’s so disappointing!! 4 1/2 year old gd got her first shot the other day (maybe Friday?) and complained of a sore throat yesterday. The 15 Mo old gets his this week I believe. Younger s’s s isn’t old enough yet.

My daughter is going back to work part time starting August 1. I’m going to watch my grandson 2 days a week. She is looking for someone to watch him on the other days. She didn’t think ahead and is having a problem finding someone. All the daycare places have long wait list and her preference is to find someone to come to her home and watch the baby while she works from home. Going rate seems to be $25-30 an hour in our area.
I’m hoping to take the baby and watch him at my house at least one day of the week. I’ve got a portable crib and a dresser with a changing pad. I’m looking to buy my own car seat as she doesn’t want to move the one from her car since it’s so hard to put back in. I might also get a stroller for my house.

My sister with 5 GKids has accumulated a lot of stuff for watching her GKids. Sone has been gifted by other grandparents and some has been purchased. It works pretty well for her. She always watches at her home. Good luck working it all out. My kids haven’t mentioned anything about wanting to have kids, so we shall see.
