DD is 33 weeks so I guess I feel comfortable believing that I’m going to be a Grammy!
I had so many fertility/pregnancy struggles, it’s hard to believe her pregnancy is going well.
Exciting, @daylily1 ! I hope you get to spend a lot of time with your soon-to-arrive grandbaby!
GD3 and GS1 had their second shots a week ago. No side effects. So glad for all these littles!
D1 is 35.5 weeks. Her hospital go bag is packed. Newborn diapers and formula have been bought. A new changing table has been set up in the main bedroom next to the bassinet. Baby boy clothes have been appearing in mysterious packages delivered to the house.
Twin B talks about the new baby in mommy’s tummy and has been practicing feeding and holding her baby dolls. B also will pick up items–baby clothes, burp clothes, etc-- and say these belong to her new brother. Twin A doesn’t seem to very interested at all.
D1 is bummed. The fetus is complete breech and facing rearward. Her sister (the OB/GYN) says there’s only a 50-50 chance the new baby will turn head down in the last month, even with an external version attempt, but D1 keeps hoping that he’ll turn so she can avoid a C-section. D said she will so pissed if she has to have a C-section with a single baby when she successfully avoided a C-section with twins.
P.S. on the Covid front. Twin B gets her second Covid vax on Tuesday. We had Covid in the house (D1 caught the new BA.5 variant at work), but no one else got sick. I did have a very runny nose for 2 days but I tested negative on both days. Twin A also had a very runny nose for 3 days, but never ran a fever or displayed any other symptoms. Could have been a cold or even seasonal allergies. But even if it was Covid, vaccinations have turned a very serious, potentially life threatening illness into a couple days of minor annoyance. I am so grateful for the vaccination.
@WayOutWestMom : Tell your daughter about this. It worked for my DIL, who had a C section with her first but was able to deliver vaginally with her second, even though he was breech until the last week.
My first born way laying breech and within the 5-6 weeks before born did position correctly on her own. Hoping the baby will turn on his own. It is frustrating, but also reminder that healthy baby/healthy mom is desired. Of course desired to have a vaginal delivery and prayers for success with vaginal and calm/no medical complication delivery.
One GD had her 2nd Covid vax today. Her mom currently is on day 6 of Covid and still not feeling great. Mostly just a stuffy nose, no taste, and tired, but said she has had worst colds. As she is vaxxed and boosted, I was hoping she would still feel ill, but at least he symptoms are mild enough.
GD had to test daily to go to school with mom sick, and was negative today before the vax. Hopefully she stays negative! Mom is staying masked at home unless she is in the guest bedroom, where she plans to sleep until she is without symptoms. GD has gotten use to mom staying a good distance away from her, but hard not to cuddle with your child.
The jury duty I was so worried about ended up with me never being called in, and I was dismissed from possibly being called a week early (it was supposed to be a two week timeframe). I didn’t try to get out of it - the other grandma would have been able to cover my days if necessary. I’m just glad I don’t have to miss any of my scheduled babysitting days … GD starts daycare 3 days a week in mid-September, and I will be down to one day a week watching her at that point. I feel like I did my civic duty without ever having to actually do my civic duty!
D and SIL going to Seattle for the weekend, leaving me with GS. I’m wondering which of them will cry first, not being with him. That being said they are going to Hawaii with him the middle of September. From Boston. My recommendation is to have credit card ready to buy drinks for those around them. 12 hour flight
The weather is supposed to be nice this weekend! And the Angels will be flying! Enjoy your time alone with the grandson.
I’m out of town attending a international quilt show. But the babies have missed me. Twin B spent so much time going into my bedroom and looking for me Tuesday, the nanny asked me to call and FaceTime with B so she could be reassured I still loved her and missed her too. Facetimed with her & her sister again after dinner on Wednesday (Mom was working and Daddy looked pretty frazzled doing the solo parenting thing with 2 cranky toddlers.) Had another FaceTime call w/ them tonight after dinner because both of the twins spent all day yelling at Mom to “Call Grandma. Call Grandma.”
Also D had an OB appointment today and she wanted to let me know everything looks OK and that the baby has flipped head down and is slotted low into her pelvis. Baby boy is 5.5lb and could arrive anytime now. (D says she had about two hours of labor this afternoon, but it stopped on its own. So it really could be any day now.)
Lastly, the big news --and I am kind of glad to be out of town for this one…BOTH twins removed their pants and diapers and pooped on the floor multiple times today. Want to guess who are getting a brand new potty tomorrow? It appears they have decided it’s time to potty train whether Mom and Dad have time for this or not.
Oh, and twin-speak. They’ve begun doing twin-speak in a secret language only they know.
We spent last weekend at an Airbnb in N San Diego with my daughter, her husband and their 3 month old son and my son, his wife and their 3 and 1 year old daughters. We had a really good time and especially liked the San Diego Botanical Gardens which has a wonderful kids area. Then I spent three days at my sons house watching his girls while they worked. I love all my grandkids but at the moment I have a soft spot for my son’s one year old daughter. She is a snuggler. And I also had a bossy older sister.
My twin brothers communicated in twin speak. My parents said that it was hilarious. One also would climb out of his crib & climb into his twin’s crib to sleep. Twins are a trip!
I am on duty with GD from Wed to Sunday. I will be working at their apartment and the nanny will be there while I am working. I a, going to keep a light schedule so I could have some time with GD. D2 is going to come over to help out on weekend. I am looking forward to it.
How did the Italy trip go?
Even though I’m not a grandparent, and hope to stay that way for quite some time, I read it regularly and I just gotta say -
This thread is one of the happiest on CC.
It was very good, but it was hot and a lot of work. D1 and her husband were surprised how much work it was traveling with a toddler. They were on their own for 2 weeks before D2 and I joined them. By the time we got there they were exhausted. But I was happy to step in to help out. I woke up every morning with GD. We took many walks around the villa by ourselves. There were a lot of flowers on the property, so we had to stop to smell everything.
GD pretty much ate pizza and pasta the whole time. Her Dad was concerned and said so to a restaurant owner. The owner said, “what’s wrong with that. She looks like she has a meatball in each cheek.”
GD was a trooper. She accommodated our schedule very well. She discovered gelatos and knew grandma was the one with it.
D and family have been camping in a very rustic cabin in upstate NY for the last two weeks with 3 and 1 year olds. Plus a dog. We joined them for a day, and it was exhausting just watching the work they put in!. Lots of prep ahead of time–H is primary cook and freezes most meals ahead of time. But still, the prepping and cleaning and making sure everything stays mouse-free (they store much of the kitchen stuff in the car at night), and bear-free–most food goes out there too.
There is a fridge and plumbing, but the place is tiny, and keeping 1yr safe and happy takes a lot of ingenuity. They did bring a folding fence they can make “HisNameWorld” out of when they’re busy inside, or have a fire going outside, but he doesn’t like to be in there too long. They spend most of their time at the lake-- swimming, boating, fishing, and watching wildlife (snakes, beavers, turtles, fish, etc). There are other families they know from past years, and there are bonfires, arts and crafts nights, fishing tournaments, etc. 3yr won a “best casting” award. She’s a pro!
Just spending the day, I was exhausted! But I was happy to sit outside the cabin while 1 took a nap, so that D and her H could both go to lake with 3.
They have tent-camped with the kids, too, but only for a couple days at a time so far.
The day after they get back, D has a big job interview, so hopefully she’ll be mentally rested, if physically exhausted!
After following/lurking here for several months - I’m official
Granddaughter arrived 2 weeks ago (a full month ahead of schedule) but she and D are doing fine). A few days in NICU and baby went home. They (Baby, D, SIL and granddog) spent yesterday afternoon and evening at our house - it was GD’s first (non doctor) outing! So great to live 20-25 minutes away! At this point GD spends most of her time sleeping and eating as her job is to grow and gain weight but I got to hold her for the first time and that was pure bliss…
Congratulations, @FallGirl !! Both of my kids were early – one six weeks and the other four weeks – and they were fine. So, your D should just enjoy the fact that she didn’t have to be really really pregnant during the hot summer!
