The Grandparent Thread

D1 texted me this morning.
D1:“Did you get GD1’s valentine’s day card.”
I right away looked at my email, check all folders.
Me: “Hmmm, no I can’t find it. Do you mind re-sending it.”
D1: “No, real mail. USPS.”
LOL. I only check my real mail once a week because I get most of notifications via email now.

Happy Birthday! My GD (5) loves to make cakes from a mix, as well. We cook from scratch, too, but she prefers dealing with fewer ingredients. She is so good at cracking eggs … not a shell in the bowl. She can even manually separate yolk & white.

Do any of your grandchildren have something like this? I was thinking of getting this for GD for Easter.

My kids and my GD all had similar toys, but plastic. This wood one looks great.

My kids also had the plastic ones. D1 loves wooden toys (she is a Kindergarten teacher!) for GD and I thought this walker looked like something she would love.

The grands had the plastic ones and loved them. I think this is what LMM used:

The one you linked looks good!

I have 2 plastic walkers (from Buy Nothing) that GD used and GS will in the next few months. GD has a “kitchen” from Tiny Land and its very nice. I think that’s a great gift.

My grands had this one:

@BunsenBurner - that’s one of the ones I got on BN!

@FallGirl I’m happy to hear that the kitchen from Tiny Land is nice. I already have my eye on that for GD’s first birthday in October.

I just got back from visiting GS and I miss him so much again!! DIL is recovering from surgery and my DH is still there helping them.

I am apparently “Grandma Blueberry” - for a child who says very few words, he really works and struggles to say, “Blueberry” (I eat a lot of them and he loves them and shares them and when I’m in town his parents buy them). My actual name is much easier to say, but I guess less important

Thank you all here for the bookroo recommendation - one of the recent ones is a huge favorite, “if you can hear me touch your nose … etc.” and he LOVES it.

The baby walker is a great gift. My DIL only wanted wood toys but has ended up with a lot of plastic and things that make sound. My grandson has a genetic disorder and most of the therapists use toys that are plastic.
We have a Melissa and Doug kitchen at our house that my daughter found on Facebook marketplace. All the grandkids love it. It came with a ton of dishes, play food and even a play toaster and coffee maker. I’m still slowly bringing things out. This weekend I pulled out the pizza and the cookie and cookie sheet. Also Melissa and Doug. I’m so impressed that someone kept all the proper pieces together. I’m sure the seller was at that point happy to get it out of her garage.
Facebook marketplace is a great place to find used toys.
I’ve started to listen to audiobooks with my a
Most 4 year old. I put it on when he’s taking a rest. He usually falls asleep. Any suggestions that are 30-40 minutes long. He has listened to Frog and Toad a few times.

We had two of our grandchildren yesterday and I asked my grandson what he might want for his 4th birthday which is next month. His request is a pool. Mind you not a kids pool but an in ground pool. His 2nd choice is a scooter.

Smart little man. If he asked for a scooter he might not have gotten one. But ask for something really out of reach, then the next not so outrageous ask doesn’t sound like too much. Perfect business negotiations strategy.

We babysat Little Miss Mess last night. She wanted to sleep in the “big bed”’- the king bed in our guest bedroom. That turned out to be a good idea because when she woke up from a bad dream, I scooped her up and snuggled with her in the “big bed.” We both were able to fall asleep quickly and slept well until the morning after that. LMM grew so much in the three months we haven’t seen her! And I need to learn Portuguese because that’s what she now speaks at home! I did learn the most important words… for needing to go potty!

And our little vacation with the big grands was so much fun! The weather was just perfect. Now little kid wants us to repeat the trip with her family, so another week in Hawaii has been booked!

My kids came over this weekend for Chinese New Year. GD2 called me Po-Po. I could hear her calling for me when I was cooking in the kitchen.

Line of the weekend from GS– “Papa that’s silly”. I was having his farm animals make the wrong noises

He is home sick from daycare today and was very happy when DD found Miss Rachel’s episode about dinosaurs. He was excited to tell me that “they come from eggs.”.

Braggy moment– I was helping in the childcare room at church and he was playing with a puzzle with the lead provider and she was excited that he recognized all of the numbers

Mid-afternoon text from DD-” can one of you pick GS up from daycare and drop him at my school by 5?” guessing she has an event at her school tonight. Messes with my plans but I am headed down there. Its going to be 35 minutes to daycare, 20 minutes across town to her school and then 45+ minutes home (no express lanes for nastiest part home)

I was in a meeting with 2 other folks when I got text. The non-grandma was like “ shame you have to drive all that way.” The grandma was like “ooo gs car time”

D2 and I went to Chicago for a relative’s memorial service and had a terrible time getting home to Boston because of the snow storm (our flight was cancelled). D2 and I decided to rent a car and drive to older D in Indianapolis because we were able to get a flight from there back home.

We picked up GD from pre-school after we got to town and when we walked into the room GD came running over. There was a little boy nearby who looked at D2 and me and said to GD “Wow–you have two Mommies?” D turned to me and said–”He really didn’t think you were a Grandma!!” I replied–”well he’s 3.” The teacher—who was standing there said—”Actually, he’s 5.” Anyway, it made my day; plus, we got to spend time with GD. Our flight the next day did get us back to Boston, but it was 3 hours later than planned.

This grandma is overflowing with joy. One of my grandchildren has a genetic condition and at almost three was not walking. We saw signs it was coming for the last month. Today he walked unaided at the playground.
