Sweet news, @total1096.
I have a little stuffed music box toy that is with music “you are my sunshine”. I would play it for DDs. Now DD has it for her children.
As I reported earlier, I am helping out youngest son and his wife with babysitting their almost 6 month old till times get better.
Amazing how a little 15 pounder can wear out an old grandma! LOL. But I love it. She is so adorable. It’s very easy really with the kids working from home. They are constantly up the stairs, son to check on her or DIL to breastfeed her. She naps short naps and there are currently four of those but one falls after I leave. And I don’t think I stayed one day till 5 p.m. Not like a job where you punch the old clock that’s for sure. They have so much flexibility, like tying up loose ends in the evening. I’m off next week as DIL is taking the week off. So, this week was a good intro. DIL is going to be taking Fridays off because she has so much time accumulated and it’s use it or lose it. So, I won’t argue with a four day work week. I am so pleased to be able to help them out during this awful scary time.
If my D finds a job, I would like to do the same–that would be worth retiring for. Enjoy! And put your feet up when you can!
My parents are in their late 70’s and are watching my brother’s 3 kids a few days a week. The oldest just turned 5 yesterday the middle one is 3 1/2 and the baby is 6 months. The 5 year old only comes over Tuesday and Thursday and my dad helps her with school online. They watch the younger ones four days a week since my SIL doesn’t work on Fridays. My brother and SIL only live a mile from my parents and are both working from home. My parents are normally very active at their senior center playing bridge and doing other activities which have all been canceled so they are enjoying watching the little ones although mom says she is tired by Friday!
Anyone try Highlights HELLO magazine for 0-2 yr olds?
GS turns 1 this month and we’re in a quandary over what to get him. He has a 3yo sister, so they have lots of toys, ride-ons, books, balls, etc. He likes motion, but they already have a slide, wagon, ride-ons.
Any ideas?
Table top swing?
Isn’t that too small for a 1yo?
@shellfell, I know you mentioned they already have ride-ons, but the toys GS (3-1/2) and GD (17 mo) LOVE to play with together are the Prince Lionheart Wheely Bugs, little mouse and the big ladybug. They ride around and around, have races, do ‘spin moves’, and laugh and scream with joy. D’s home has wood floors that will probably be replaced once the kids are a little older… These do work on carpeted surfaces, too, but are more fun on the hard floor. GD started using the mouse at about a year and we quickly bought the larger ladybug for GS.
Thanks for the suggestion, @hrh19. Those are adorable.
Yes. My bad. I read one month old in my head instead of one year old.
I bought the lady bug wheely bug for my granddaughter (17 months). It arrived Sunday and is so cute I don’t know if I can wait until Christmas to give it to her. Thanks for the recommendation.
@shellfell --blocks? train sets? Musical instruments (like cymbals, drums etc)? Not all motion, but maybe some activities that will keep him engaged.
Thanks for the suggestions, but DIL finally came up with ideas since she was getting asked by her parents as well. But Chanukah will be here soon, so your suggestions are still appreciated. Thanks.
I have a request of you all–D is looking for getting a new sibling books for GD. She says “either classics or new greatness” – trying to avoid “giftbait” or just not so great. Any winners you multi-grandparents can suggest? Thanks!
I picked up a couple of books for GD at Barnes & Noble before GS was born. Since I bought them at the store, I don’t have an order hx for them, but I’ll see if I can figure out what we got her.
@tx5athome, I’m glad you like it. ? We’re always happy when GS and GD play together. There is true joy as they race around. I also love when a toy can be used long-term. GD started using the small one at about 14 months and uses both now at 18 months. GS still loves riding at 3-3/4.
@garland, GS has a few, but brings ‘I Am a Big Brother’ by Caroline Jayne Church to be read almost daily. There is a sister version too. It’s very simple, but very good. GS and GD have several of her books. https://www.google.com/search?q=caroline+jayne+church+books&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwiaiemO04rtAhUPYK0KHV3QDRcQ2-cCegQIABAA&oq=caroline+church+books&gs_lcp=CgNpbWcQARgBMgIIADIGCAAQCBAeOgQIABAeOgQIABAYUPctWLQ7YJhNaABwAHgAgAGBAYgBkQSSAQM1LjGYAQCgAQGqAQtnd3Mtd2l6LWltZ8ABAQ&sclient=img&ei=lVG0X9rqCY_AtQXdoLe4AQ&bih=608&biw=1102&client=firefox-b-1-d
If you search YouTube and you can often find the books read aloud so you can see the text/illustrations.
Thank you!
I think we got GD the “I Am a Big Sister” version of the book @hrh19 linked.
I think we may also have gotten her this one:
