The Grandparent Thread

Thanks!

GD is a pretty verbal 18-month-old. One of her latest words is ‘mask’. Only in 2020…

8 month old GD started crawling forward tentatively while I was in Nashville for Thanksgiving. Got a text when I got home Saturday that she is going full throttle and has made a beeline for the Christmas tree. The “baby jail” that D ordered on Black Friday can’t come soon enough for D & SIL.

D just called. She had an appointment with Maternal-Fetal Health this morning. Due to a few high blood pressure episodes, they scheduled an induction for December 27th (37 weeks). Coming SOON!!!

Sending good thoughts to your daughter and family!

If anyone is looking for a loved gift for their adult children with kids, this might hit the spot! My daughter had her 1st child the summer of 2019. They were able to visit both sets of grandparents, one out of the country and us, several states away. They have never been away without their daughter due to the baby’s early health issues and the pandemic; I think they had a sitter just a few times to go out to dinner.

A local upper end hotel is hurting for business without conventions and business travel, so my daughter and SIL are taking a weekend stay. What makes this different is they are each staying one night alone while the other parent keeps their daughter. The idea is to have a night away from parenting, knowing their daughter is in good hands! They plan to take their own snack foods and wine, but will order room services or walk to pick up curbside for dinner, as the many of the downtown restaurants are still opened.

My daughter said she plans to take a long bath, after she scourers the tub, and then get in bed with tv and wine and then sleep in the next morning. While I know they would prefer to go somewhere together, this pandemic has made everyone be creative. If this works out for them, I will think about booking another weekend for them for a Valentine/birthday gift.

Superior bedding is something everyone can do for their grandchildren’s parents. I just ordered through Land’s End (after checking with my DDs) and was able to save $ through current sale on many items. Through 12/15 promotion code Shiny and Pin 2997. One DD got 700 thread sheets/monogrammed, and the other got a goose down comforter.

Coming back to this thread–our 2nd granddaughter is due soon and I’m getting excited! My daughter has an induction scheduled for her due date, Dec. 28, if she doesn’t deliver before that. This is her first child and everything has been going well with her pregnancy so far. Our older granddaughter (our oldest son’s child) will be 2 next week. We do not live near either of our grandkids but my son/family moved last summer to within a 7hr driving distance (from thousands of miles away) and will be with us for Christmas. D is an 8 to 9 hour drive, and I am hoping to visit/help D sometime after the baby arrives. I am definitely feeling more “involved” with my daughter’s pregnancy than I was with my daughter-in-law’s.

D had her baby today! Short induced labor of 4-5 hours. First baby. A girl–bigger than we thought at 8lbs 9oz, 20.5"
Unusual name: Aurelia.
Just so relieved it is over and all is well!

That stuffie is adorable!!

Congratulations @atomom!

Congratulations, @atomom!

@CountingDown, it’s hard to see the top, but it’s a stegosaurus. It was a true “grandma” purchase (a splurge). I know the fiber artist who makes them to order, and I couldn’t resist!

Congratulations, @atomom ! Much good wishes to the family. Very pretty name. A friend of S’s named his daughter similarly–Aurora.

I love baby names!

My D won’t tell anyone the name they have chosen. They don’t want anyone putting in their two cents in advance! I get it … last week, my MIL & Sister in law were discussing what she “should” name the baby. D & her H were wise to make sure that they protected themselves from outside influence!!

Congratulations, @atomom, to you and your family! I love her name! Babies are the best blessing in 2020!

@kelsmom, I agree with your daughter. Nobody wants to hear what they ‘should’ name their baby.

Merry Christmas, Grandparent Thread Friends! You are a wonderful group!

My D goes in for her C-section (baby is breech) in 4 days. Son-in-law can stay with D, but he can’t leave once he’s in the hospital. The doc says they’ll probably be in the hospital for three days. I’m excited, even though it’s going to be a while before we can see her. They finally decided on a name, which is Nina. Can’t wait to see her.

Oh, I love her name!
I just watched “Love Actually” and Aurelia was the lady Colin Firth fell in love with! So I just saw that name yesterday!
Congratulations!!!

Ours wouldn’t tell either. We have Eli, Vivienne (Vivi) and Chloe. They call Chloe Coco but I won’t do it. LOL. She is the one I babysit.
