I never asked D and her H what names they were considering. I was afraid the look on my face might give away any displeasure I might have felt. As it turns out,I really like the name they selected,
but the other names they were considering were just…awful. Glad I didn’t ask.
@VaBluebird, grandmas get to pull rank once in awhile. D said that the name they picked is currently popular (although they didn’t realize it when they picked it out). But they plan to use a nickname that they said they don’t think other girls with the same name will use. I have a couple ideas, but honestly am not sure! He has an unusual name (which has resulted in some prejudice), and I know that he wants a name that is what he considers a “normal” name … so I guess I will just have to wait & see.
Congratulations @atomom! What wonderful news. DIL just had the fetal echo (GS was born with a VSD and pulmonary stenosis) and all looks good and normal so everyone is breathing easier now. As for names, Rafi (Raphael) evolved when DIL’s dad passed away when she was pregnant and they wanted to honor her father, Richard, but not name him that. I’m told there is a spreadsheet going for our April arrival but they do not share in advance. D called Rafi’s name while we were waiting for S to tell us GS had been born - she just had a feeling (and a very good friend named Rafael)! GS thinks he was named for a Ninja Turtle - perhaps there’s a Mikalea or Donatella or Leonora in our future!
D checked into the hospital last night at 6:30 for an induction at 37 weeks. First pill at 9 pm. Amelia Grace (Millie) was born this morning at 5:53 am! 6 pounds, 10 ounces, 19.5 inches. Mom & baby are doing great.
They were expecting it to take a couple days. SIL had a duffel bag filled with snacks …
Welcome to the club, @kelsmom!
Wonderful news, @kelsmom ! Grandparent club is the best!
Congratulations, @kelsmom, to you and your family! Baby’s name is beautiful and I love her nickname.
Congratulations @kelsmom!!!
Congratulations @kelsmom!
@kelsmom congratulations! I love the name. Also I had a baby girl 29 years ago that was 6 pounds 10 ounces and 19.5 inches long.
This little one was 3 weeks early. D said she doesn’t want to know how big she would have been on her due date!
@kelsmom, congratulations! My S2 was 7.3lbs and also 3 weeks early. Very grateful he was ready to escape his first home! What a wonderful treat at the end of this very no good, horrible year (for the most part!) Glad mom and Amelia are doing well.
Congratulations to the new grandparents @atomom & @kelsmom.
I am looking at the names (Aurelia & Aurora) people posted and quickly texted D1 to ask her not to name her baby with too many Rs in the name. My mother wouldn’t be able to say it. Chinese are not good with Rs.
If anyone is looking for baby clothes, https://www.hannaandersson.com/ is having a big sale. I just ordered whole bunch for my unborn granddaughter. We are getting close, 5 more weeks.
You made me laugh out loud, @oldfort. I was reminded of the sweetest international student I had who could not pronounce a particular letter that appears twice in my name. The way she said my name always made me smile!
My DD and SIL had to figure out how their potential names sounded from his strongly accented mother. At least one was dropped because the combination of letters created an unnatural pronunciation for her. But they also gave consideration to grandparent strong dislikes on the potential list. I was particularly thankful for that
Congratulations, @kelsmom!
My H has trouble with R’s because of deafness. But 38 years ago I talked him into our daughter’s name which had been my favorite forever and has an R in the middle. He has been able to say it fine–it helped that it was very Irish-y, and he is also. I sort of worry I was a jerk for fighting for it, but it is unquestionably the right name for her.
My D delivered baby Nina yesterday! She had a C-section because the baby was breech. Mom and baby are both healthy and well. Dad is doing great too. They will go home on Thursday morning. The hospital allowed SIL to be there, but he can’t go home. Baby Nina is 10.0 pounds, has lots of curly black hair, and cute pink cheeks.
I’m going to have to start shopping again–because I bought her a bunch of newborn clothes and the size charts say newborn clothes go up to eight pounds!! Yikes.
Congratulations @Bromfield2!! Ten pounds!!! Wow!!
