Congratulations @oldfort. Glad granddaughter is doing better.
Congratulations @oldfort! Very happy to hear that your granddaughter is improving quickly and that her parents were able to hold her. It’s always tough when things go a little off script so it’s wonderful that she’s making great progress. And I’m sure they’re feeling grandma’s healing vibes even though you can’t be there in person.
DIL is now in her third trimester with #2. I wonder if we’ll be any further along with COVID restrictions by the end of April when she’s due. Hard to think about not being able to see this little one until she comes home, though I expect to have my hands full with her brother when his mom is in the hospital, since it’s likely to be a scheduled C-section after the emergency section she had with GS. I was thinking yesterday about how we had one grandchild when this started and by the time it’s over we will have two.
Parents did not hold GD’s hand nearing a busy street which is by their church - she is 2 1/2 and darted out and was almost hit! These young adults need to be aware that kids have impulses that over-ride any ‘lessons’. IDK if this ‘subsides’ around 8/9 or even older - a kid concentrating on a ball and running after it or kids playing tag. A sister’s classmate lost her daughter who was older (maybe 11, I will check) in a game of tag and ran out in front of a car in a 25 mph zone and was killed.
A grieving parent started a big public education process in AL when her 4 YO drown during a beach resort gathering of physicians/families - she was inside with him talking to adults, lots of adults and older children around; he went outside and into the pool w/o being noticed - the MDs got a pulse and weak heartbeat by the time they med flighted the lad but he didn’t survive. The mom did not know drowning was a primary death cause of her child’s age category - and a lot of parents don’t know the key causes of childhood death.
Congratulations @oldfort!! How scary! Glad things are improving!!
My DIL is due with GD#2 in about 2 months. Today I was shopping for matching outfits!
My GD is off all breathing support. She is breathing on her own and even nursed for 10 min today.
D1 really looked around for the best hospital for NICU. She hired a doula along with ob-gyn. She changed her doctor(s) when she decided she didn’t want to go to a hospital 40+ min away. I thought she was being a bit too cautious back then, but in hind sight she was right (she had a very easy pregnancy). I am so grateful she was where she was when the baby was in distress.
Mazal tov, @oldfort! What wonderful news.
Oh, @oldfort, that is the best news. And your D is very wise.
Oh, so much congratulations, @oldfort! Glad to hear of continued improving of the little one, and hope all can go home soon.
Congratulations @oldfort on being a GM and that your GD is improving and doing well. My D’s twin boys were 4 weeks early and spent 3 nights in the NICU before going home.
Enjoy your GD!!
How is baby @oldfort doing? I hope she is getting stronger everyday.
Thanks for asking. The baby came home on Wednesday. I went to see her for the first time yesterday. I held her for an hour. I wore a mask, gloves, and a clean shirt over my sweater. She was so content in my arms. D1 said she was in her best behavior just for grandma. I see both of D1 and SIL in her. She has the biggest cheeks (like SIL), nose and mouth like D1. It was a very good day.
So glad she is doing well. Is clearly strong, like her mom and grandma.
Great news! I hope everyones little ones are doing well. No grands, other than cats and dog, for us.
Great news, @oldfort! So glad you got to be with your beautiful GD! Enjoy every single snuggle.
@momoffour, Thanks! I had a grandpup four years before GS was born. She is still adored by all and has been amazing with GS and GD.
Baby #3 due date Sept 2. DD said her OB indicated she is the only current pregnant patient w/o health issues. I get to see them Saturday - we have a Boston Butt BBQ fundraiser purchase and it is mouth watering. DD has to remind her 2 1/2 YO to not pounce on her belly. Last time I visited GD said she came from mamma’s belly. GS is still a ‘baby’ (turns 2 in July) and will learn about the baby as mamma’s figure changes.
D1 & H have been posting daily pictures of the baby on Tinybeans. I know today is Super Bowl Sunday, but I want my pictures. Sheesh.
The baby is gaining weight and is beginning to have a personality.
I just finished eight days of my daughter and GD visiting with me while her H did some renovating for new baby.
Loved our “girls” time together. Two year olds are amazing–the language explosion is so cool. It was fun being with her throughout the day–lots of playing, a zoo trip, many cold beach walks. At the same time, I just want to report that there is no limit to how many times one can read “Pat the Bunny” or “Harold and the Purple Crayon.” No. limit. at. all.
Today is GD’s first birthday. We had a little celebration yesterday. We moved it up a day because of the snow. I doubt this will be the first time the weather will mess up her birthday plans. She’s taken a few steps in the last few days, but today, she walked clear across the room. She’s been such a bright spot during these trying and restricted times.
DIL was 1 CM dilated a few days ago. I was hoping she’d keep her legs crossed until we get out there in a few days… and maybe she will… but they have been on radio silence for several hours (and they are not big superbowl watchers) so … I wonder…
@jym626 ~ Any big news for us?
