The Great British Baking Show Season 3

The first episode of this season came on July 1st.
Here is the online version of it in case you missed it.
The recipes are very complex and technical.
Hoping we have some fans here on CC.

I’m a huge fan. Makes me miss English baked goods and high street bakeries. I missed the first episode - didn’t know it was back till a friendliness in Facebook. I have the DVD set now for the rerun and for the new episodes. May go check out the link though. Thanks!

I found out from Facebook too. It was on my newsfeed. I don’t have cable so I watched online today. I am assuming a madeira cake is like a pound cake. The recipes are too technical for me but I love to watch this show. I like it better than the American version of this show.

I watched the online episode. Thanks for the link. Now I want cake!

Oh no, I missed it I am a big fan, so I will find it. Thanks so much for posting.

Thanks for the reminder. I’ve been out of town and it slipped my mind so I need to catch up on the first episode.

I hope they continue to post the videos online so that I can watch the season.
Have any of you ever tried to make any of the recipes that are done on the show?

I had a real treat. This season was one of the entertainment options on my 14 hour flight to Asia. Between the outbound and return, I had a great time. Surprisingly refreshing to not have to it a week for the next episode. I had no boredom with marathon viewing. I feel so much better about my lousy baking skilss after seeing these close-to-pros have similar difficulties.

I’ve been waiting for this since last year, though I already know who wins after reading an article contrasting British version with American version last year. I have a soft spot for the young bakers and was glad to see the 19 year old do well this week. I would never attempt any of the bakes and wouldn’t eat a fair number of them due to being a picky eater, but I sure do love to watch this show:) Though it aired Friday night, I saved it for today because I like a little PBS fix on my Sundays and I’m missing Downton, Grantchester, Call the Midwife, This Old House, and all of my other Sunday PBS shows.

Just watched the first episode of this season. Great as always, wonderful personalities, several laugh out loud comments. This show is about as perfect as reality tv gets. Love it.

I discovered this show last year and was looking forward to the start of this season. It proves that a quality show doesn’t need a jerk host like Gordon Ramsay or contrived drama among the contestants to be entertaining.

Here is episode 2 in which they make biscuits. Next week they will be making breads.

My DVR list shows that my station will broadcast both episodes 3 (Breads) & 4 (Desserts) next Friday. Not sure why they are showing 2 in one evening, but wanted to share the heads up for others who may not have recordings set for all episodes.

Am I sexist, ageist and lookist because I always root for the pretty young women? (I’m a middle-aged woman my self). Anyway, I’m rooting for Flora, the very pretty English rose with the peaches-and-cream complexion (so very, very English!) and Nadiya, the beautiful Bengali-English young woman.

I love all the contestants, though. It’s fun to hear the subtle differences in their accents.

I have to put cc on to make sure I am understanding everything they say.

If you are looking for something to tide you over 'til next week, I recommend Supersizers Go … It’s Sue Perkins, one of the presenters from Great British Baking Show, starring with a comic partner, Giles-something-or-other. They go back in time to sample the cuisine and lifestyle of past ages in Britain. They’ve done Medieval, Regency, Victorian, 1920’s, 1950’s, etc. If you are an Anglophile like I am, you’ll definitely enjoy it ( but no Mary Berry and thus not nearly as good as the GBBS). You can find it on YouTube!

Yes, @notelling, you are. You’ve been conditioned to think that those are the only worthwhile people.

Ouch! Does that mean you don’t approve of the Supersizers? Is it the Elizabethans or the Restorations that are causing offense? Not sure I get the point …

Every time I watch, I think there must be a “niceness test” along with the baking skills test, to get cast on the show.

The bakers just seem like such nice, lovely people. I think the show would “feel” very different if it was cast in the US. Not that we don’t have nice, lovely people here in the US, we DO … BUT they usually aren’t the type who are cast in reality shows!

I was referring to your self-confessed preference for young, pretty contestants.
