The Great British Baking Show Season 3

Is Johnny the judge? He doesn’t bug me, but the hosts do. I wish they had gotten Sue and Mel to come to the states! These hosts don’t add anything. Sue and Mel added warmth and humor.

Has anyone watched the Great British baking show where Mary and Paul are giving a masterclass? It all looks so yummy. Makes me want to bake - of course they make it look so easy!

I’ve watched a few on youtube. The final takes place this Thursday at 9pm. (the great American Bakeoff)

The finale is on tonight at 8pm.

I’m puzzled by the remark that the show “desperately needs” a “newer, fresher audience.” What, the millions of devoted fans it already has on two continents are a problem, somehow?

Yeah, that comment struck me as odd and off base. Hasn’t it been the most popular show in the UK?!

I presume that it is connected to the need to sell advertising, and as we know the accepted wisdom is that the preference of advertisers is for younger viewers who haven’t formed brand preferences.

I just liked every close up of Mary Berry. I don’t need a youngster. Am I showing my age?

Ruby of Great British Bake-Off fame has a cookbook out: http://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/248623/crumb-by-ruby-tandoh/?

I’m not going to re-read all the previous posts, so please forgive if this has been covered. I caught a number of the Australian Bake-Off shows last week while in Asia. It seemed to be very much modeled on the British show - at first I thought it was an SNL-type farce. When I realized it was the Aussies’ legit version, I found it enjoyable, but not as good as the original. The Aussie version bakes in a shed, not a tent. I wondered if anyone else had seen this version? I do miss the original. @doschicos, thanks for the Ruby link!

New season starts tonight on my local PBS station with 2 episodes - an abundance of riches!

I’m really looking forward to it!

Has anybody been watching this latest season? I’ve been enjoying it but found tonight’s episode a little duller than average with no big showcase for the 3rd bake.

I’ve been watching, but haven’t watched last night’s episode yet. I just watched the bread episode last evening and that is usually one of my favorites each season. However, I think I liked the biscuits episode the best so far this season because of all the drama associated with showstoppers that didn’t go as planned. I hope the new iteration of the show (without Mary, Mel, & Sue) will be good, but I’m a little skeptical. I like for good things to stay pretty much the same.

From my FB feed today. Only time will tell how we feel about these changes.http://www.vulture.com/2017/07/the-great-british-bake-off-huge-changes-are-coming.html?utm_campaign=vulture&utm_source=fb&utm_medium=s1

I enjoyed the show last night. I think they have made good choices each week about who to send home

As someone who can bake simple things that taste good but don’t look particularly good, I’m very impressed by the high level of achievement of even the “losing” bakers.

I love this show. Hoping the new hosts don’t change the show too much that it turns off people from watching. Why change something that so many people already watch. I do wish there was a episode that shows what involved in being selected as a baker and a behind the scenes show.

I just wish my kids were still back so we could bake something together. I now want to try make something with some creme patissiere.

The charm of this show is that everybody is nice - a far cry from the US competitive cooking shows with big name chefs yelling and berating the contestants. They need to keep that aspect of the show!
