Why do I call reliance stingy? My personal experience:

I’m the head organizer of an intercollegiate sports tournament (completely student organized) held at our school (6 colleges, 5 sports, 4 days) scheduled to be held next weekend. Of course, for such a huge tournament, we NEED funds. Of course, we all knew that reliance wouldnt provide any. So we decided to go and meet individual sponsors. Now reliance put a cut on that too - we cant have any sponsors that compete with reliance products (justified). So we only had 2 options, one of them being the company my dad works for (Let’s say X). Now, 1 week before we get the cash, a guy from the school administration comes and tells me that we cant have X as a sponsor as they’re planning of asking X to sponsor “annual day” (some big event held by our school each year - its something like a play in which every student’s supposed to take part - u get the idea) later this year.
And I’m like WHAT THE *!!?!?!?!?!??!?!??!

  1. You guys still refuse to give us some sponsorship, however little (“collect money from students, na”)
  2. You bastards have returns 10000000 times higher than X and other such smaller Ltds. AND U ASK THEM FOR SPONSORSHIP.
I spoke to my dad that day, told them our school’s future plans of approaching X. He got *ed. The board of directors had a meeting and came to the consensus that they’re not gonna sponsor Reliance ever. I mean, there’s no logic in it. I mean reliance should be sponsoring them!!!
So now, X cant be a sponsor coz if they are, then the school will realize what happened. And now, we’re just gonna break even. (hopefully)

I ****ING HATE RELIANCE.

well first of all one of the ambani’s got their MBA from wharton. both didnt go to stanford
secondly, i highly doubt either of them dropped out.
thirdly, does it make a f u c k of a difference even if they did? they’ve achieved more than most of us can even dream about.

stop hating on reliance and the ambanis!!

(ironically i AM a DAIS dropout :stuck_out_tongue: chose jai hind over DAIS in the end…)

about the U of cinncinnatti thing- i dont mean to rob anyone of their achivements… but well spending 600 millions dollars for a university isnt that big a deal…seriously. im sitting in a dorm right now that cost my univ 300 million$ (and yeah, we have atleast 30 dorms…) and i definately wouldnt pick my school becuase of that…
top astronomy program…hmmm… are u planning on majoring in astronomy? if yes, then it might be a god idea. but im gussing your not, becuase it is after your 10th choice.
as shallow as this may sound - choose your college based on reputation. some small lib arts colleges may give you a great education but if nobodys heard of them, your education isnt going to be worht **** in the real world. big colleges have strong reputations and strong alumni. and thats what counts. the average person in america doesnt really give a crap about the type of schooling you received. they just identify colleges as brands. example- many people in the south think Duke is better than harvard (debatable, given my obvious bias) most ppl in chicago think northwestern is the best school… most northeasteners think the ivy league is the best. One thing is common- they all like schools with strong reputations.

so yeah, moral of the story- if the school has a brand name- go there.

u sure have pretty good reasons for hating the idiots…

one of the ambani’s got their MBA from wharton - probably anil?
i highly doubt either of them dropped out - search on the net and you’ll find articles, although secondary info.
they’ve achieved more than most of us can even dream about - with their pop’s cash I think quite a few of us could do teh same

i’llbeback…so do you mean to say that if one can afford to spend say even to a certain limit and can borrow loans for the rest it would be a good idea to go to a reputed school…
In short will one get a really good job after graduating coz of the schools name and obviously their own effort which can pay back the borrowed money.

i mean it all depends. i dunno about borrowing and all that cos its relative to your families financial situation… all im saying is that if there’s person X with a 4.0 GPA from the university of west virginia and person B with a 3.5 from harvard, yale, duke, brown etc… its pretty amn obvious who’s gonna get the job.

shady colleges in rural area’s have no name recognition in the big cities. you’ll get a good education, but i dont know how well youll do job wise.

yes i guess he does mean that and i t is very rightly true also…

the odds of geting accepted increase and paying off later also increase…

i call it rather a smart investment…

SM

Also … the reputation of schul goes beyond US made east coast and all…

Repo is at international level and we already knw which ones have that…

SM

yeah the investment is damn smart but it takes one to be even smarter to get the parents ready :D

well i guess i have done that!!

and i absolutely believe that after graduation i will be elidgible enough to repay everything i borrowed…

yes you will be…i have no doubt about that…
i think everyone would be after an ivy ducation specially engineers who like get $5000+ starting salary atleast.

Def u will be able to pay tha…

but getting my parents convinced that an IVY or like education is worth the extra money …is near impossible as majority in INDIA dont knw that …

so have to screw up my chncs …cant help it…yet that shows…how MONEY RULES…

SM

Anyone heard of Harvey-Mudd College? It’s No.2 on the US news rankings for eng. universities with highest degree as masters. I was planning of applying. Their site says starting salaries after undergrad eng. is $65,000 (they only have general eng.) - Much higher than Cornell’s $55,000 average (i think - varies with fields. Info on salaries is available at the College of Eng. Website)
