The Indian Thread (TiT) # 14

hey how do u get all those smilies??? the only ones i know are ;), :(, …

Sachit, check this page for Smileys info http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/misc.php?do=showsmilies</a></p>

Congress is the mother of Dictatorship and unconstitution activities in India. They dissoved Bihar’s legislative assembly before its formation only. They imposed governor’s rule in Goa when the BJP Govt. had a clear majority. They allowed Shibu Soren to form a minority govt. in Jharkhand… so Rishabh, its not just a singular incident.
Moreover, Sonia Gandhi resigned because she was doing an unconstitutional job. Had she not resigned, the Election commision would have made her disqualify from the House of Commons by President’s recommendation.

okay okay !

i just thought that overall shes one of the most sensible and forward thinking politician right now.

very few of the bjp politicians give me that feeling. i could recount a fair few instances during the bjp tenure that would put them in bad light . . but the important thing is how you respond to them. sonia responded in the right way by resigning . . without letting this issue go on for months.

I agree with ronty… Sonia resigned because she was forced into a pit with that ordinance…

Too bad our public can’t see through this and worship her like some goddess…

The Gandhi family has ruined India!!

We should start a thread called Picture of Indian Modern Politics (PimP)

first there is TiT, now PimP . . wonder what the mods are gonna think

:p

While that may be true, I would still pick this hypothetical corrupt politician over a ‘moral’ politician who is responsible for deaths because he’s hellbent on ethnic cleansing.
While the somewhat bad and somewhat good theories may have some credence, I still cannot bring myself to support a party whose ideology I disagree with so strongly.

But I think a seperate thread for this topic is a good idea - specially since decisions will be coming out soon and you’ll want a nice non confrontational space to discuss them in :)

In fact, we had one of those before - I’ll bump it up if you want.

its nice to see political discussion return to to this thread…

current sleep deprivation is 24 hours so i cant function properly now… and todays friday night!!! ahhh my liver is quivering already

Congratulations to everyone who got admitted, great stuff! enjoy everybit of the decision season!

How about BJP in Maharashtra in 1992, or in UP? It’s never done much in the Southern states (barring Hyderabad) because BJP has never gained any success in South. Even, in MP it has been responsible for many communal tensions. So, although, Gujarat has had a huge influence on me, BJP has had the communal approach in many other states.

Again my disclaimer, I am not supporting Lalu, he’s screwed up one of the most prosperous states and he should never be forgiven for that. So, now i’ll move on to my point: You say that since Congress supported Lalu, they are evil as well…but you have to remember that this is India’s coalition politics, this is going to happen! Parties with completely polar views form coalitions, e.g., BJP-BSP, BJP-V.P.Singh. Talking about V.P.Singh, he called back J&K’s governor in 1988/89 trigerring the Kashmir terrorism thats showed no sign of stopping, and he was supported by BJP. Does that mean that BJP was responsible for J&K crisis as well?

Thats soo true, but in India, we have always been given the choice of choosing the lesser evil, and for me if i have a choice between a party that supports the killing of Muslims, that demolished the Babri Masjid and in fact, supports the division of India in terms of religion and between corrupted politicians, i’ll choose a corrupted politician. Even a note on the corruption issue, the BJP has been equally corrupted, the Tehelka scam? what happened there, none of the accused gave up their ministerial posts. The point is that BJP has been corrupted as well.

true, thats the biggest reasons why i get ****ed off by Congress, their frequent use of ‘President’s rule’ almost raises doubts about India’s democratic, federal structure. I have no arguments with that, they have used that way more often than BJP and there’s no denying that.

And Such, thanks for bumping up the BJP/Congress thread!

Sorry for this mammoth post :)

well… I kinda feel that the present congress government is a bit better than what the BJP did… of course the game of politics in India is as worse than ever…
but it seems that with the common man trying to get his fair share of development and economic growth … they had no choice… the development India has witnessed and the growth taken place during the last few years owes its origin to the general public demand and not rather to the government…

BJP and congress were both unsuccessful in their so called majestic endeavors… and well this is Indian diaspora where these games rule.
Anyways i wont go in political debate… as this is one thing i dont really like in our Indian picture…

SM

now lets get back to the original topic of discussion before this political debate came up . .

i forgot what it is . . anyone care to remind me ? ;)

All i know is that i had to read 3 damn pages before i can post…

Someone asked about caltech…well its a greeeeeat school…but the way i think it…attending caltech is going some thousand miles to attend IIT…

yes , i think so too . . .

You cant help being entertained by our politics. This is so much more interesting than any soap opera :D

u know i hear some ministers running their f’in mouths abt scientists to stay here in India and ‘work for the nation’ when they pay them less than what the ‘delhi paanwaala makes in a week’…and the Mother f’ers are storing crores in their damn bank accounts…mostly foreign…

recently i read an article in business and Economy which mentioned that Europe’s population was 238 million and its depreciating…it kinda hurts to think that India’s population alone is more than a billion (thats 1000 million) and its constantly increasing…

thats why I like to watch Political news. Today I saw a glimpse of WWE on News Channels as some MLAs of Jharkhand were throwing and tumbling the desks, tables and chairs… It was entertaining :D

Vampiro, the decreasing European population and the increasing Indian population has some good aspects too… Many jobs will be offshored to India, as well as many Indians can goto Europe to offset the skilled-labours demand.

Dude decreasing Europe population is a cause for joy…or not… i cant say…

But increase in Indian population is by no means good…i mean even if the jobs get outsourced to us…it still wont help if we keep adding to the population by thousands but yes if we control somehow then the outsourcing may help…

Dont worry. As stated in my Biology books, the population growth rate is decreasing. :)
