The Indian Thread (TiT) # 14

well SM most people havent got their letters and its not that they have sent acceptances and rejections seperately…Because bot are arriving at the same time…atleast the rejections have come…

thats maybe coz the acceptance packages are heavier :)

anyhoo, best of luck to those still awaiting their decisions, hard luck to those who got rejected…

This is for all the ivy rejects… Dont feel bad… They generally rejects every intntl who asks for aid n I know internationals with near perfect scores who got rejected even when they were nt asking for aid… n this is for all those applying to the ivyies… dont apply to all of them… there’s no point… its better to apply to the LACs if u r asking for aid… I made the mistake last year… applied to only ivyies thinking that SAT scores wd be enough n was rejected everywhr… this yr applied to Colgate n got in with $40,000 in aid… so pick out the LACs n u stand a better chance of receiving the $$$$$…

n those who r in the middle of nowhere… ( I ws in this situation last yr) dont loose heart… drop a yr… its no big deal… slog for the IITs(u guys r lucky with the 2 yr rule in effect)… n apply to the LACs again…

lucky u say…the friggin people are thinking of a 50% reservation…who the heck could have though that to be possible…

Colgate is indeed generous…

I only got a SAT I 2050, and received 40000 aid

princeton rejected

sorry to hear that rishabh…

princeton down for me too…

SM

actually im pretty okay with th pton rejection now . .

i have heard from my relatives who live in the us that pron is viewed as a very elitist uni. more than 50% of its students come from the top 10% of the wealthiest families . . or something like that.

id rather go to a small liberal arts college like middlebury or amherst. and those are the places where i hve been waitlisted - im gonna give my best there for an admission.

down but not out !

sorry pton ! - you couldn make me all that mad and angry !

haha

Nice question, SM. Analysing your own chances of clearing JEE is a risky thing at best but if I were to answer I would say that I would manage to get in, given that I have concentrated on IIT for the last year and a half. However, the last 3-4 months (the most crucial )have flew by in the midst of boards and all the foreign apps. So I am definitely not top 500 material and would manage a 3 digit rank only if really lucky.

Good on you, Rishabh. Best of luck for whatever you do.

Hey sorry Rishabh about Princeton, I really thought you were meant for that place. What’s left now?

hey,

what up guys? sorry rishabh bout Princeton…and sorry to those who didnt get in where they really wanted to…anyways, how’s y’alls break coming along?

You CAN try applying anyways. As I said, I applied in round 4 despite that terse-sounding ‘warning’ … and look at me, I’m here.

What I suggest is you apply for round 4 (round 3 is not possible now), keep your visa documents ready, and apply for visa the very next day you get your IUB decision (if you get in, ie.). That way there is no reason not to get a visa. It won’t take more than 1 month. I was able to persuade them to get me the visa in 3 weeks (but dont take that risk!).

sd88, i find that to be a very…well…misleading statement.

NO-ONE…i repeat…NOONE…can say he/she is through IIT.
and people have been preparing for 2-4yrs religiously for this!!!
saying you have a good shot is k…but saying that you are certainly in the top1000 is blasphemy!!!

what the hell is the matter…i still havent got my decision…

um…sid88, queens university is actually really good. it’s up there with Mcgill, UBC, etc…a lot of people have this thing against going to college in Canada… and while a canadian college education in general may be regarded with indifference in america, a degree from one of the their top schools will definitely be respected (in america and the world over).

well…u will get tomorrow…prob thats lying in ur local post office for you…

I dont mean to say this …kep ur hopes high… but i got news that pton decisons thru fedex have beeen done… and rejections via airmail almost done too

SM

sd 88, I totally agree with ASP… I have spent the whole of last yr at Kota preparing for IITJEE and its mind boggling how around 10-15 thousand students are slogging 10-15 hrs a day 7 days a week, 365 a yr…(yeh no hol even on Independence Day) for this bloody exam…!!!
