The Indian Thread (TiT) # 14

hahahahaha, acually, in AP physics, you use calculus, but theres no multivariable calculus course in school up here in the US and naturally, educational standards are much lower (as you already know)

But we’ll see, im actually interested more in the indian school of business or IIM, AND i just wanna come back to india … forever

this probably sounds really lousy and informal, but im pretty serious…

well hello all people… i just came back from my IITJEE exam…

first to clear the doubt… for foriegn nationals who apply to IIT jee wasnt a necessity but an option … a quick searchj would reveal … they do take on the basis of sat2 scores in PCM combination for foreigners … even non NRI…
for Indian NRI ones they can do it either ways … but a very strtaight easy route is via the SAT one… as of these years the sat requirements also has been increasing and no longer is it viable to say it easy to get in with that…

Non natives are allowed to sit for JEE but for what use…

SMARTMIND

Hmmmm unless you intend to start your own business once here, it might be hard to get a job, since the bigger companies would wonder why you came back. Also assuming that you got into IIM, it still doesn’t compare to the likes of Harvard Business School, Stern,Tepper or any of those. A reccurrent question might be, why you applied to IIM and not those.

It would be hard to explain it by playing the financial difficulties card, since if you cleared the CAT then you are definitely smart enough to get aid in one of the big schools (essay nothwithstanding).

On the other hand you might not be asked any questions at all. But overall apart from IIM the business schools in India aren’t too great, except maybe ISB. So its a really huge risk.

well now the new all changed IITJEE …

i think the only word i give this IITJEE is WONDERFUL…
a complete overhaul from traditional system… the present IITJEE has taken front seat on the SAT 2 exam methodology … and is as always 10 steps ahead of the the Sat is terms of variety difficulty and well also of course course content…

The new pattern is as follows…
[ul]
[li]**section 1 **of 12 questions having only 1 right answer[/li]+3 for right and -1 for wrong answer here

[li]**section 2 **of 8 questions which may have one or more than one answers… [/li]+5 for right and -1 for wrong answers here

[li]**section 3 **: its the new all hyped about Paragraph comprehension section… 4 paragraph and 12 questions… well paras were in physics and chemistry only whereas … other places this was like a short sum having subparts to it but well with guides provided… English proficiency was tested in this one…[/li]+5 for right answers and -2 for wrong

[li]section 4: well a brand new section where like sat maths u have to fill in numerical answers to sums given … here they gave longer mains type sums… 4 total questions here[/li]+6 for right and no negative marks

[li]section 5 : another brand new initiative : here well 2 columns of data set or subjects are provided and students have to match the elements . here there may be more than a single match to one entry … so well in short al possible links in the 8 items have to be written down … no part marking… and fully correct entries in all matches for each question get full marks… 4 question here( this was served as a bonus’s to those who have high perfection level)[/li]+6 for right and no negative marks[/ul]

This is the all new IITJEE>> very innovative and no technicality and only smart students will get through unlike previous years where stupid academic geeks wud only go thru… also well its now NOT THE TOUGHEST EXAM IN EXITENSE… SEEMS LIKE IIT DOESNT WANT THAT IMAGE ALSO…

SMARTMIND

that accounts for a net 184 marks for each subject …and well in 2 hr shifts with a 2 hr break that was perfectly timed… no time rush as pppr wasnt lengthy and normal … MAths as always IIT standard … physics and chemistry below previous year’s standards … i estimate this yr also the cutoff arnd the usual 35 % stuff

SM

hey Havaldaar, what about getting a degree at a US school (harvard, stern etc etc) and then coming back to India (Im in the US right now)? better choice? yes? no?

AND GOOD LUCK TO ALL YOU FOLKS WHO WROTE THE IIT JEE!!

Wow, it seems to have become better. The English proficiency thing should help weed out those who just slog endlessly and don’t pay attention to other areas of study. I wonder if they’ll have to change it back next year?

Lala I can understand why you might want to return to India. A few people who live abroad have that feeling. Despite my rantings against everything Indian, I still love this craphole dearly, and I missed it terribly when I was in London, even though I didn’t want to leave my school and my friends.

However frankly, if you graduate from HBS, Stern etc., you’re going to be way above the Indian companies’ levels. The best thing you could do then, is to get a job in an MNC with a rising or estabilished branch in India and grab the first opportunity to be transferred here.

You could also get work experience in the US, and then when you’re ready, start a business in India.

Depends on your priorities really.

hey, great advice … thanks
now im gonna have to think this over more deeply

Oh, right, that’s always a good thing.

haha … yep!
using one’s khopri once in a while is always good

khopdi you mean !!

:p

actually, AP Physics C Electricity and AP Physics C Magnetism are calc based. I studied that this year and am not taking the exam…so yeah

We do calc based Electricity and Magnetism in the HSC board, which is the easiest Science syllabus in India.

hehe righto haval…

can someone confirm about iit and sat scores because Itried searching and could not find anything +ve.

well…momindoubt IIT has stopped officially publishing the sat info… You should for the least and best official info email the IIT office with your query and wait for 1 week for reply. thats fastest way…

SM

I ll do that.May be call them.
THANX SM
Can u tell me the source of ur info?

well there was a time when i myself did research on possible ways to avoid JEE… so found these

SM

who wouldnt have wanted to bunk the old JEE SM , I dont blame you…:)

Havaldaar…AP Physics C is one of the toughest APs, which, combined with Physics B >>>> IB HL Physics. Now dont tell me that IB HL is crap.

i dont know why you guys think that the indian syllabus rapes anything foreign…seriously. We manage just as well or sometimes better than the fob geeks straight from india.
