Why are you people trying to schedule online appointments??? Call the consulate and ask for an emergency appointment!!

sucharita…students are not eligible for emergency appointments !!!
I called the embassy and they informed that we need to plan well in advance.

They have a well defined list for emergency appointments and we dont fit in it.

Yes they are. That’s how I made my own appointment!

yes… but this year will be different.I wish it is not.
I had scheduled a personal visa guidance appointment thro USIS with the visa officer last week.He only mentioned that he feels sorry about chennai students plight this year

Mumbai still has June dates.

I would suggest that you find out the sure information,
last year as well, the online dates ran out very quickly.
So, i went to ahmedabad and got an appointment in mumbai scheduled a week after my ahmedabad visit. So, they definitely have slots for emergency interviews

check this out… I think emergency appointment can be obtained

2 days ago I saw it as the last thread on the page.

well seeems ruships and many of guyys are pretty much informed wrongly… well as sucharita said yes there are emergency appointments… for us

well lemme share with you my meeting details over this matter with the very visa officer from east india… well students happen to be in the F category of visa which are the 2nd most important visa after medical emergency and stuff … they are sceduled to be given emergency appointments at all costs if the date online is in any way causing them to come too close to their starting date of studies…

For that very case , the US embasssy has made a rule at all centers that there be arnd 5 slots free each day to accomodate these extrra students in this peak times… In case u do fall in same dilemmna just book watever appointment date u find earliest online, then rush with a copy of ur inteview appointment letter to the consulate and also drop down an email to us. You will be realloted in one of those emergency clots and given priority dates within as early as a wekk if u so desire…

this is perfectly legitimate information, all other info u ppl got was wrong… coz yes students happen to be at present the most priority category of visa holders for emergency visas … followed by business travellers and then tourist visas…

SM

and well it is not possible to get interview and or ur visa appointment in any city other than ur home area … the embassy has a well defined list of regions it will process for visa and no cross regional stuff are entertained… U have to go thru ur center only …

SM

But the two are not distinguished, it’s just one visa called “B1/B2” and which visa you enter the US on is decided after you arrive. Are you sure whether the priority order you specified is official or not?

Yes i am sure of this…the businesss class is 3rd to students and medical cases though in some cases they do get better dates coz of the infuential policies and all that stuff … but nevertheless the students do get most emphasis in terms of reg visitors…

As of business and tourists being seen as seperate well true the category is same at the B visa… and b1/b2 makes all the difference but as she said they do ask in for the purpose and all and also at the time of expedite appoitnment they confirm the purpose of travel… so this is the priority order in that sense also…

also yes this is official as the source of information is both US embassy and also the VISa officer herself …

SM

as of student visas there are three categories of visa the M1 , F1 and J1 visa … we being elligible for F1 visa and the short term 1 yr course exchange programs being elligible for a J1 visa… the M1 visa is for highly skilled special purpose training programs like Aeronatics training and pilot courses which arent in our purview…

as of there in student category i meant all three of these visas and not only F1 visas though we may not be concerned with these other category of visas

( no wonder that people who dont end up at USA finally due to soem reasons have better or ion most cases more comprehensive knowledge base of its working system as in merc’s case … even though its highly irrelevant now…no offence meant to anyone here as this is just an observation)

My brother want to apply for the United World Colleges…
Is this a strong program? Does it offer good perspective of going to US for College? What for certificate will you receive after the UWC education? IB full degree? Does it offer 100% finaid?

From what I know:
UWC offers the IB Diploma Programme. It’s probably the (or one of the) top IB college(s) in the world, with an average IB score of 36 (Our school had the same average last year :)). So I think it’ll be a bonus on the app. Plus, I’ve heard that they give aid/scholarships. If I’m not mistaken, one of my friends got a full ride there.
IMO, your brother should go there.

full ride at schools…cool…(but they can be darn expensive
)
