The Indian Thread (TiT) # 15

so tell me how r u prepping for the last 2 chapters and that metallurgy thing

I’ve never quite figured out what Informatics is, we don’t have the subject as an option (though we do have Computer Science, I’m guessing it’s similar?)

Informatics is Visual Basic + Oracle + PLSQL + Business Computing + SDLC + DDLC + Open Source woooooooooooooooooo!!!

That seems to be a lot. I’m more of a Bio person really. (Learnt Java for a year in 11 but that’s about it really) Our Comp course in 11/12 is Java based, I think, though I’m not too sure about that.

I don’t like Java… I’m more of a C++ guy…

@Spacepirate:

I think you are associating a lower acceptance rate for a better program , which necessarily is not the case. Most publics accept higher numbers but their program works on a different principle , dropouts! Programs like UIUC , Umich and Purdue accept a lot of people but they also expect a high rate of drop out into other colleges.

As you said about a college experience , I really think its upto you how you determine how much fun you have and how much you learn , so simply saying that a college with a better acceptance rate is more fulfilling is a useless argument.

You might disagree with me on the job front , but frankly ive given enough interviews to know which league am I put in , the usual competition/comparison is always MIT , UMich , CMU, Cornell, Stanford, USC, Purdue. The last time I was told that we dont recruit engineers from any such school besides the Ivy’s was … pretty much never , this includes companies like BCG and McKinsey.

Oh and as far as my bias is concerned I don’t really think what I am stating is just tooting the fact that I am from UIUC, I personally had been admitted to Cornell, CMU (SCS), UMich but I just dint go there for other reasons , but just like I realized that picking between these engineering programs is not that big of a deal as the overall value is in the similar region, I would like to suggest to other college kids that if you dont get into Cornell and still make it Umich you aint that worse off.

Speaking of Having Fun at Cornell , it just happens to have the highest suicide rate.

I like your remark about “some university ranked top in that one program” and an ivy league…
a. Have you even looked at the rankings? a school like Umich is top 5 in a lot of programs you would be suprised
b. Just because its an Ivy league make it equivalent for being ranked the best by their peers?

You sir, are an elitist just for the sake of being one.

Oh come on guys, stop slugging it out on what is probably CC’s oldest if not most stupid discussion. (College A vs College B) Where you go to college is ultimately a personal choice, nothing you say on this forum is likely to have any effect on anybody at all. In fact basically you’ll find rabid supporters of each and every top 25 college here, each of whom will have 2000 different sets of stats that verify their claims, just agree to, you know, live and let live and that sort of thing.

I will however, just say this: That entire factoid about Cornell having the highest suicide rate is a bit of urban legend that’s been making the CC rounds for a good while now. Cornell’s suicide rate’s consistent with the national average for schools with its demographics, and frankly, as none of us are prone to throwing ourselves off gorges, it’s not something that one normally considers in the college admission process. :D

IIT has the highest suicide rate for sure.

lol… i couldn’t agree more with you shrivats… I personally hate A vs B debates and believe its totally an individual’s decision… I was just trying to tease pinku2002 and was looking to indulge myself in a pointless tiff…

UIUC actually rocks!! it actually is faar better than MIT, Stanford and Caltech- which is why I say the USNews rankings are balderdash. hehe

lets not fight pinku… i have only one point to make though-

The fact that you chose UIUC over Cornell qualifies you further to be biased towards UIUC… You probably saw a couple of reasons (ok- three maybe) why UIUC is better and are going about advocating those…

that could have been the worst interpretation of what I stated…

ok- let’s stop now… no more fighting. this bicker will resume only after i have another strong point to make. lol…

Definitely… I stand by that statement…

I think the fact that several people drop out into other colleges speaks something.

I was talking about “UIUC” that appeared only on one or two lists, not UMich… Secondly- I doubt if your eye has been trained to see UMich only… Haven’t you seen Cornell on the lists as well?

ok… no more fighting…

Have u ever wondered… Adcoms may visit TiT so that they get to know more abt us… Really… In case I’ve been kinda flamer over here that was just for fun and a huge chunk of misplaced humor, rather humor lost on the TiTans… I don’t see anything terribly wrong with that… anyway my seniors at Cambridge drove a firetruck up a dome… Keeping that spirit alive…

wow post no. 3333, beautiful number

I am 100% sure that your real name isn’t bas007.

Name’s 007, Bas007 LOL… boy u r on 995 get ur 1000

But I do know ur real name… Ha Ha Ha!!! (Add FX)

3336 doesn’t seem nice, 3339 is better and more accurate

un…

dos…

Oh stop already; if you want to increase your post count do so through a thread you create specifically for you; otherwise (as practically all of us have said) it gets irritating.
