Yea, I know… that’s always the way it is.

By the way, what all colleges did you apply to? I saw your list somewhere… but this thread is just too vast… where all did you get in so far?

If that’s to me, see my stats profile (you can access it by clicking on my name and clicking (astonishingly enough! :D) ‘stats profile’)

Looks good (understatement…)…!

Colleges I’m applying to are also in my stats profile (easiest way, if you want to see where any of us are applying :)) (the same ones), welcome! :)

Well, if cost is a consideration you already snagged a great deal in Michigan…though I suppose anything less than UCB might be hard on you…lol…

I’ve applied to Umich, Cornell, Carnegie, Illinois Urbana-C, Gatech, MIT

Got into so far: Gatech, Illinois
Rejected: MIT

Dream colleges: Cornell, Carnegie Mellon

Waiting for Mich, applied there Jan 1… hope that’s not too late

Stats:
GPA: 3.68
SAT: 2200 (Math: 680, CR: 740, Wr: 780) (However, Mich and Carnegie received only my first SAT I score, 2170, in which I scored a 650 in Math…)
SAT IIs: Math IIC: 700, Phy: 720 (took once only)
Ranking in class: Top 10 %

Citizenship: US

Still no news from Caltech(FedEx). I guess it’s rejection(Or waitlist:p - Yup, I never stop hoping. :D) for me.

What about the others? Noldo? spacepirate? anybody else?

Has Anuishp got accepted at Caltech?

No, no, no. NO.

False Alarm.

I wasnt expecting the package to arrive today Lakshya. I will wait till 21st before I start worrying, because that is the estimate given by the FedEx website.

If I were you Lakshya, I would still be hopeful about getting in :)

Is it true that Caltech is the toughest for internationals to get into? I was asking a full ride to top it up!

MIT’s tougher, I’d say, though at the MIT/Caltech level, there really is no differentiation.

Lakshay, I think you ought to be more open-minded… there is life beyond these really really prestigous colleges… and I had a look at your list and if you got in any 3 of them, you ought to celebrate!

MIT is the toughest school in the world to get into… it’s easier to get into Stanford, and much easier to get into an Ivy like Cornell.

what’s really odd is that the students who really want to go to an Ivy league in my school (unfortunately including me) are always told “there is more to life than ________”

I agree with the above statement, but if you have spent a significant part of your life trying to get into these prestigious universities - that statement just gets annoying.

I am not quite sure about what you said pulchritude… After all, difficulty to get into is not absolute.

I know how you feel… believe me I’d love to get into Cornell… I also used to drive myself crazy with super-high expectations in terms of grades, etc… but after falling into depression and extensive counselling I now have a better grip on myself…I was in really bad shape at one time due to my drive for perfectionism and success…

Heck, lots of famous people have come from no-name colleges… I think we’ve all applied to quality colleges… there is nothing to worry about…

One thing you miss out on Naidu, is that the vast majority of US colleges are really good. That is why, a GeorgiaTech is comparable to MIT in terms of quality of education at least in some majors (though not in selectivity, naturally)

What makes you think I won’t celebrate if I get into any of those universities? I didn’t apply to them for nothing, you know.

Yes, nothing is absolute… that is why even 800s in your SAT-IIs and nearly perfect SAT-I scores can’t guarantee you admission into MIT, and why a 1900 can sneak in with lower (though still very high) SAT-IIs.

Anyways, don’t worry… you’re obviously a very accomplished candidate…

You’ve got us all wrong here. Our only crime is that of dreaming and hoping. None of us is going to kill ourselves if things don’t work out. At least I hope so.
