The Indian Thread (TiT) # 15

a grandfather abhi? :stuck_out_tongue: you married? or not? (unless you were talking about great nieces/nephews in which case you’d be a great uncle, I think (note to self, must research heraldry)

You don’t know that I am married?

jk

Was talking about daughter of nephew. Nonetheless, they don’t call me Dadaji, nor does their father calls me *Chacha/i

snort Clearly my family’s not sufficiently messed-up to be called Indian. Must figure out how one goes about remedying this.

Also, question: would withdrawing an application now have any effect, or d’you reckon the Ivies have already made decisions? I don’t want to take anyone’s spot if I have no intention of attending College X, and I don’t want Mum to try and blackmail me into choosing another college over Caltech (she doesn’t love it as much as I do.).

I think there have been a few posts about this earlier, so you could see what others (possibly more knowledgeable :)) had to say.

For my part, I’d say, that it’s a nice situation to be in :), and that most colleges admit a larger class than they expect to enroll (due to cross admits), so you wouldn’t really be taking anyone’s place or giving anyone an acceptance if you withdraw. 'tis your decision to make (particularly with the family angle), but I’d say that you wait for the 29th, see what decisions you get and then decide.

I can’t speak for the Ivies, but I do recall a post on the JHU admission blog stating that they were close to being done with admissions, here you go http://hopkins.typepad.com/hopkins_insider/2007/03/are_we_done_yet.html

That was pretty much what I’d thought, really (and had been thrashing out the situation in my head quite a lot – thing is, I want to see if I get in to some of these places, but if I do I might be forced to attend by Dearest Mother.).

At least she’s let me off writing IIT, though. :D

That’s nice, so you’re secure from prep now?

Give the other places a look as well, you never know, if they’re more generous financially and you begin to like them for other reasons as well, then you could end up going there!

I do hope to be in a similar situation after the 29th :D, 'twould be nice having colleges court me, instead of me courting them! (I’ll stop with the Victorian phraseology, I promise! :))

But then again there is the entire wait list thing. Again, it really doesn’t make that much of a difference now. Plus, the wait list results are only announced after May 1st. so these 3-4 days aren’t going to matter much anyway.

You could just wait and tell your mum you got rejected everywhere.

Guys, we should have some kind of master list of acceptances that shows where all the members of TiT got into with what kind of scores and such. It would be a good refrencial point for Indians/and NRI’s of next year applying to college.

If you guys want (and are willing to provide info) I could create some kind of word document that shows all the important info.

That sounds great.

What if it discourages them from applying at all ? :D

I know- a chatroom will not record the action for future TiTers, but I have made one in case CC crashes! Here is the address- bookmark it!
http://www.chatzy.com/965068862211

I just looked at the Columbia email- looks like you can still withdraw your application there :D

“At least she’s let me off writing IIT, though.”
That’s nice and considerate. Go party then!

I didn’t apply to Columbia! I would withdraw a hypothetical application for you guys if I could, though.

Heh. No partying for me, unless you call ‘reading Murakami and eating chocolate’ a party (which I actually do). :D

Hahah, it shoudnt. Hopefully it will just provide a helping hand and reduce the amount of, “chance me” and "will i get into XYZ college’ threads!

@pyrotechnic - Have you sent your deposit in for Gerogia Tech then??

Hey Pyrotechnic, did you do that grades validation thing or whatever. that was the sole reason i didn’t apply to gatech…it costs like 200 bucks just to get your marks validated(and i still don’t know what they do).

looks like i’ve killed the thread :(

Well you’ve induced hibernation I suppose, nothing can kill tIT (nope, I’m not calling it anything else)

Let’s do that comprehensive list thing, only wait till the 29th and the 1st’s over, then we can have a complete list. Maybe we’ll get the Mods to sticky it.

A comprehensive list would be great – at least the next bunch would have some reference that was specifically Indian-international (saving your presence, fuzzy. ;)). I know I’dve killed for a bit of information that wasn’t hearsay about Indians making it into MIT/Stanford/Caltech/what-have-you.
