The Indian Thread (TiT) # 15

Also be sure to check if there are requirements to renew in your 2nd, 3rd and 4th years. For example maintaing a certain GPA etc.

From what I know of the twins, no GPA is too high. ;)

;) It’s a 3.00 GPA. I think we’ll be able to keep that… (Mustn’t tempt fate though…)

Hey, Gatech’s syllabus is tough as compared to other colleges…that would affect my resume, eh ?

Yes, it would. Many universities have grade inflation and others have grade deflation. Some have tougher curricula. Employers know all that. So, it’s fine.

An Indian boy in his 12th standard has disproved Einstein’s ‘Theory of Relativity’. Sudarshan Reddy has theoretically proven the existence of a sub-atomic particle, which can travel at speeds greater than that of light, thereby challenging one of the fundamental postulates of the ‘Theory of Relativity’. Sudarshan has proved the existence of a class of sub-atomic particles called “leptons”, which can travel faster than light. His work builds substantially on the work of Einstein and others in the field of relativity. Sudarshan, incidentally, is the brother of Madhu Reddy, the Indian whiz kid who developed an operating system superior to Microsoft Windows.

Great fuzzy

taemi: Take your name off Williams waitlist! Help me get out of nowhereacceptedclub.

Where’d you read that, Pyro?

Thanks, Abhi

Hey, UMich has a large amount of students as compared to GaTech. Look :

GaTech

Total undergrads: 12,361

Degree-seeking undergrads: 12,103

First-time degree-seeking freshmen: 2,837

Graduate enrollment: 5,575

UMich

Total undergrads: 25,555

Degree-seeking undergrads: 25,422

First-time degree-seeking freshmen: 5,060

Graduate enrollment: 11,946

@fuzzy…http://www.vedicheritage.org/Arch%20Edit%20JanFeb%2003.html</a></p>

And help me decide which coll :D

UMich is a great school but you may get lost in the woodwork. GeorgiaTech is equally respected as an engineering school. Plus it’s private. If you are reasonably confident you want to major in engineering, choose GaTech. But you may want to check out the area around GaTech…it’s a little sketchy. Ann Arbor is supposed to be a better college town.

EDIT: That page is from 2003…no doubt someone would’ve noticed that Einstein’s theory had been disproved in the four years since then.

1111 posts!!

Yeah, surely someone would’ve noticed it. If it was worth anything anyway.

I’ve always tended to be a bit skeptical of these ‘boy genius’ stories. They normally tend to be woefully out of date, unverifiable, and just keep bouncing from one Indian house’s email to another and back again. I did read something about a guy in 12th who proved Poincar?'s conjecture though, if that’s believable. :p

Indians make good frauds. No offences meant… They’d better do something really remarkable.

@Shrivats: Poincare’s conjecture was proved by the reclusive, super-brilliant and my-fav-living-mathematician… Prof G Perelman from Russia… He got the Fields Medal for this, though he declined the award…

Argh, yes, this was before Perelman… (Temporary mindblank on that entire issue) Fascinating stuff Poincare’s, not that I’ll ever be able to understand it…

@ Fuzzy - So that was what got you into these colleges?!?!

Well, that, and the fact that Fuzzy’s brilliant! :D

http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/i/indiansciencewhiz.htm</a></p>

Haha…so is it Fiction or Non-Fiction?

Am I a thread killer? ;(

Well thread hibernator.

I think we’ll have a few days of low activity though. Decisions are out, and it’s a bit flat really. Though we’ve got to make sure the thread doesn’t go dead.

Hey guys, I really need some help deciding which college to go to!
Its currently between Brown and Chicago (Cornell also if you can come up with something really fantastic about Cornell).
Any advice appreciated.

I know that the primary difference between the two colleges is the huge core curriculum and lack thereof. But the thing is, I really don’t know if I think the core is a good idea or not.
