The Indian Thread (TiT) #18

ooh gary i thought minnesota was in germany!!!sorry my bad.
gulf air has a mumbai chicago for 32200 incl of all taxes. catch:-33hr flight, 2 stops one at bahrain and the other at frankfurt. 6 and 8 hr each/

harvard wait a couple of days…if no date shows up, send them a mail to schedule an emergency appointment(calling them wont help much)

@Ansrox: So it’s good na, you’ll get to see two airports! Personally, I love that.

Thanks a lot for the replies friends! I will try to schedule an appointment in the upcoming days, but, if everything fails, then I will most probably apply for an emergency appointment.

I had another question as well. My mother and my first cousin will accompany me to Providence, and well they too need Visas. So, do you think I should apply for the Family appointment thing? Will it be helpful?

@annirudhc -gulfair has ****ty reviews.
I just booked Etihad. 15th august. 22hr 20 min flight. stopover at abu dhabi.
a320 frm mum to abu dhabi.
777 frm abu dhabi to chicago.
my parents are now rs 42,430 poorer.
@harvard-id say no. just coz according to me it is easy to get the visa normallyso why take a chance which could go both ways ???

Personally I prefer Jet over anything.

Seriously, they treat their guests like kings…

Or you shuda done Kingfisher to London then Jet from London-chicago

Ya they r like 20000 more. Seriously , I prefer saving the money.

@Aniruddh: Check your mailbox for the response!

hello world.

we were not denied Indian visa but it is taking forever (5+ weeks) for the Indian embassy to issue. apparently there is a new rule for those who once held Indian passports. they r required to formally renounce Indian citizenship and it takes forever to go through this process. this appears to be a knee jerk reaction to Mumbai incident. i know a few others who had to cancel their trips this summer.

harvard im not too sure but I guess student visa appointment is separate from tourist visa… dont take my word for it though, you could call up VFS
tippu- that’s strange…haven’t you already renounced Indian citizenship when you got the US citizenship? you can’t hold 2 citizenships together without applying for it afaik… I guess Indian authorities there are trying to mimic the strictness of US ones here :p

^ what is strange is that US citizenship was obtained about 15 years ago and Indian embassy has issued tourist visa a few times already. it is not like they didn’t know about change in citizenship.

@akshaym: you’re going to uiuc, right? Which city are you from?

@ans: jet is usually the cheapest man idk :s

aniruddh yeah, delhi

^^^annirudhc-roflmao hahaha if u count backwards maybe

No seriously ans!
Usually it’s air india 40k approx for return then jet around 44k return!

University season… So yeah… I guess its more $$

@akshay: uiuc is my dream school =) what’s your intended major?

You guys really don’t listen do you? :p

Get your petite butts to an Air India office - ask for student fares - get the cheapest flight - WITH extra baggage allowance.

And you might want to check http://studentuniverse.com for cheap student tickets too.

Otherwise if you have a lot of your parents money to spend then do whatever you want (maybe fly Lufthansa - Its pretttty sweet!)

aniruddh ive taken ECE right now but Im also pretty interested in astrophysics

I’m flying Emirates :p

There are perks to having a much-older sister who lives in the US and loves you enough to fly you there with her.

^True that!

I got a much older sister too… She’s got a house facing the Hudson and the NY skyline B)
