<p>Ok so here goes. I met with the representative of the US embassy today, he gave a presentation on the whole visa process and a few tips.</p>
<p>Before You Apply:
Try to apply as soon as possible and atleast 120 days before the start of your fall semester.</p>
<p>As far as the application process goes, theres not much to tell. The I-20 form plus the Visa application form.</p>
<p>1.Come prepared for the interview and bring as many relevant documents as you can e.g SAT, TOEFL, GRE, GMAT.
2.If you have switched schools since the 9th grade i.e during high school, bring your previous school transcript aswell. They may ask for it, depends on the person taking the interview.
3.Be prepared to answer questions which may include the following:</p>
<p>*Why do you wish to attend (your college)?
DO NOT answer that you wish to attend because you like the weather
This is a no-no. They are not interested in you wanting to go to RICE for example because the weather in Houston is just like in Karachi. DO NOT DO THIS!
My advice on this would be to research abit about the college and why you’d want to go there e.g The program offered there is excellent or that you can take part in research from freshman year.</p>
<p>*How long do you intend on staying there?
For this be sure to let them know that you are going to come back to Pakistan. Make it very clear that your only wish is to complete your studies. Dont start talking about your future plans on Graduate school there aswell. Be sure that they realize that you have some incentive of coming back to Pakistan e.g Help with my family business or you want to make a difference to this country etc etc.</p>
<p>*How do you plan on paying for college?
You have to show that you have enough money to pay for your whole stay in college not the first year only. Tell them about your scholarship/aid(if you have any) and how you’ll cover the remaining expenses etc. Take bank statements etc along just in case.</p>
<p>LISTEN to the WHOLE question before answering. Don’t just start blabbering after you hear the words “how do you”. They don’t like repeating the questions so DONT force them to. </p>
<p>Be honest, Be confident.
