^ Neat job but unfortunately too late for me. Thanks for taking time out for the other falcons hawking here, tho

@Karpov, @flibb: For Goodness’ sake, stop indiscriminately increasing your posts. Have you seen these kinda posts on the Singaporean thread? That thread should be our model thread - it has so many nice bites of info anyone can gain from. And bigwigs lending advice, not just a few eagles stooping now and then for heavy-headed and “I am Glorious” posts.

Sorry for that theGame, just wanted to do a good job at writing this so I waited till after the presentation. Didn’t know your interview was so soon

How’d da intrview go?
Thanks for all dat info!!
By da way does anyone know of anyone who has actually been DENIED a visa?

I dont know anyone who has been denied a Student Visa personally. As i said before a guy who gave his interview when my brother was giving his got rejected. They reject a visa if you have not been able to convince them of your intent to come back to Pakistan.

hey Game, why don’t you break the good news to all of us yourself?! :D

I know two people who did not get their visa…

1 guy who was supposed to come to Penn last year (Class of 2012), he still has not gotten his visa
1 guy going to Stanford a few years ago, his visa was rejected he went to LUMS

these are not rumors I know them personally…

Really wow! Got into stanford and upenn and then rejected visa…what luckk!!

The Penn guy is still waiting for his name background check to be cleared and it has been over an year…

I know him personally.

Hey… i just discovered this site, and this thread… :D

needed to ask something… especially to the people residing in karachi…

i am about to complete my o’levels this may/june… i have 3/3 A’s already in pak.studies, stats, and urdu… 93, 95, 94 respectively…

i am giving 6 other subjects this summer: economics, business studies, accounts, maths, add.maths, and english…

which a-level school do you recommend?? I have already filled the application of The Lyceum School, and Nixor College… but, i am stuck at the SUBJECT COMBINATIONS thingy…

i have decided to opt for maths, accounts, eco… but need help with the fourth one… please help me out… with the school and the subject?? i am asking such question over here, because i want to apply for the American Universities after my a-levels

P.S- If anyone is aware of the difference between the CIE/EDEXCEL/London School Board… please tell me…

thanks …!

Welcome, Vrohra!

About schools, I am no authority on Karachi schools, but as far as admissions statistics are concerned, I think St. Pats and KGS top the list.

Fourth subject…have you thought of business? If you find a teacher, further maths would also be awesome!

Having given exams for both Edexcel and CIE, I know the differences. Edexcel and London board are the same thing, they combined a decade ago. CIE is part of Cambridge university, while Edexcel is a private registered charity. Basic difference b/w A levels in CIE and Ed is that in Ed you get the privelage f giving different units at any time that might suit you (like taking organic chem in January and physical in june) while CIE follows a linear pattern, meaning that you have to take the whole AS or A2 at the same time. I am not aware of any colleges in Karachi (cept, perhaps froebels) that offer Edexcel!

Hey can someone help get some profiles of pakistani students at the Ivies…

ANYONE have an idea???i cant seemt o find any in the stats profiles and by what i see from earlier posts a couple actually have gotten in, can anyone please help me…it would be much appreciated by a prospective…

I can help you get a decent picture of what the Ivies want…

My stats were decent:

GPA 3.93, UW:4.3ish
SAT: 2260/1520
SAT2: 760,740,770

Got into Penn Wharton, Dartmouth, Duke, Brown WL at Stanford

Most of my friends at the HYPS had a 3.9+ GPA, 2200+ SAT scores, a hook (distinction) and ~11 A’s +in O levels!

^ Nicee! Prospectus 786 here you go.

Two ppl got rejected in front of ma eyes. I was nervous. No, they weren’t F1 visa applicants - probably the easier B1/B2s ones, tho. One was a Pushtoon business-type who was asked two questions, inquired about a “clause” in a letter, then told to leave. He naturally got incensed. He threw the Pakistani passport at everyone’s feet and began cursing it - LOUDLY. However, before the security guard ventured to strangle his throat, he was gone. For good.

Then there was another man. A burly fellow, this one had an eye for gold. Or so it seemed. Before he could utter a single word to her first question, the interviewer said his visa had been disapproved. “Ha ha!, lame joke” he probably told himself. When the reality of the words finally hit his fixated jaw, he begged to be given another chance. Please O please, review my documents. Having denied that privilege, he turned around and disappeared. Another causality to the War on Terror.

I like the no 24, but when it was called I felt anything but. My turn had arrived before I could comprehend the CNN news flowing on the TV or discern the merrily colored posters. Throat seething, I went for the kill. Actually, I was the kill.

Two questions, some congratulations and a few gasps of air later, I had it. Not the visa, but a sorta assurance that I’ll get one. But as I closed the door behind me, I realized most of the hopefuls here won’t be getting their share of glory. And unlike me, some of them won’t be having a shoulder to cry on. Or the rain to wash away their tears.

@free: Got any Qs? PM me

lol, i liked the description Game !

Thanks

Btw, where is Roots? Saw a bit of Blue Area and DHA, but couldn’t locate it

coming from Blue Area, you find Roots Islamabad on the other side of the landmark Saudi Pak Tower. As for DHA, Roots is located really inside the place, but there are sign boards at most places!

Didn’t go inside DHA but wow, DHA Islamabad sure has a big board - one fit for Microsoft ;)
