Yes but who is going to cook that meat in college? I’ve eaten food in Pakistani markets in the US, mostly near Dallas and believe me I can’t afford to go there and buy a 1$ naan. That food is expensive!

As far as eating their food goes Nausher, they don’t read the Kalma but they don’t actually sacrifice it in the name of some other deity which would make it Haram. I don’t eat much fish since I’m mildly allergic to it. As far as internships goes, I’m really surprised because I’ve never heard of someone from Choueifat doing any internships You should check Fatimah Memorial Hospital for internships. Its fun if you meet some hot girls :p

Well, it depends on what college you go to, but some college dorms do have a kitchen that you can cook in. I guess I didn’t realize that the food here is expensive, but now that you mention it, I guess it is. I am sure everything will work out. I personally do not trust the kosher food here because everything is so unhygienic especially the slaughterhouses where all the meat, both kosher and haram, come from. Just my two cents.

I have never visited Aga Khan, so what is it like? I know it is in Karachi and it is like the Harvard Medical School there.

To be sure of this, do I need to contact my university’s Dining Centre and actually ask them? It would sound a little weird. Still, I wanna be really careful with this.

Plus, the scholarship’s gonna cover 50-60% of tuition cost. So, now the overall expense is $10-12k. I’m happy with this. :)

@ Volume12. I’m sure there must be nice halal meat shops in all big cities, but most of us are not going to big cities, and specially in my case, I’ll be attending a religious university (that makes things even worse :()

P.S. Agha Khan University is a really nice place. The best there is in Pakistan. I don’t know about their overseas/international student population but its still an efficiently run institution with nice rep. My cousin graduated from there and went to Columbia University for post-grad. She’s doing research there now.

btw, most small cities have halal meat shops as well. it depends. also, i know this may sound disgusting, but in my human geography class we talked about slaughtering meat and there are very few if any places that actually hand slaughter the meat. most kill them with an injection.

@Talha: wow that is really amazing, especially cuz its merit scholarship and not aid!

well you could e-mail them because you have to be careful. A visit when you reach would also be great! I’m sure they would be willing to help int’ls out!

^ LOL. That is just the beginning. There is just TOO much to this university. I’ve been digging up facts for quite sometime now, and believe me, it gets better! :D

I believe this was the last published list. I got it off 130-something page of the thread.

Everyone who got in, some people got in more than one place. I’ve visited the Aga Khan campus though haven’t had a full tour. It varies from person to person. I wasn’t very impressed with the campus but I’m biased since I’d already seen campuses in the US. My friends who also had a chance to visit were really excited and liked it a lot.

yeah, i noticed. i am really impressed. anyways, it is still really good that everyone go into really prestigious universities and many are going on scholarships. most people in the u.s. who go with scholarships to universities only get athletic ones. merit ones are quire rare.

hey guys…(guess it’s a guys-only thread!),who is finally going for SSE?got the forms, and going to submit hostel dues…!all non-Lahorites shud do the same since it’s first come first serve!

when will they notify us about FinAid decisions…and is it merit based or only need-oriented!?i guess half of those who applied somehow proved they required AID–and a huge one at that! its gonna be mighty difficult for SSE scrutinising teams…init?!

btw i heard frm friends who are studying at SSE that abt 50% ppl get some aid at SSE…!is it true?!

secondly, where are the world class labs SSE so often boasts about–i mean half of the building was under construction…only the top most floor was OK…!wat say u!?

and yes…SSE is far better than GIKI…don’t ever consider GIKI as ur option…NUST or UET Lahore are much better…all NWFP khochas huddled up in GIKI- professors and students alike!

Needless to say,US Med Schools shud be ur preference no. 1…in Pakistan;
1.AKU
2.KEMU
3AIMC
4.AMC

and i got my internship at PnG for this summer…hopefully it’d be a nice experience–they take written tests, interviews etc of students from all over the country’s hi-prof engineering schools…!try ericsson, nokia siemens network, wateen,ICI etc. or send me ur CVs at jalalawan@hotmail.com…
i’ll apply for u and apprise u bout the results as i’ve been thru the hole procedure…!

yeah, u.s. medical schools are my #1 preference, but they are so hard to get into! half of the people who apply get rejected from every single school that they apply to. i just want to keep all my options open.

oh, jalal, btw, i am a girl so it is not a guys only thread, i guess. i am sure there are other girls, i could be wrong…

^you’re not wrong but the ratio is kinda ridiculous . Don’t apply for Pre-Med programs to very competitive colleges only. pre med is pretty crazy in some us colleges.
