The official Pakistani Thread for the class of 2013

GUYS!..i just got an offer for admission from Lafayette College! 2nd offer in 3 days…WOOHOO

Lafayette College, with 95% Financial Aid, but most probably i’m going to end up rejecting and instead opt for HKUST.

Any advice, theGame etc?

@murtazamurad: DePauw does not give full scholarship; at max, it meets full tuition. Your acceptances are starting to lose their credibility, bro. And yeah, it’s DePauw University - not University of DePauw. Don’t mix those two please.

Congrats…any specific reason for choosing HKUST over Lafayette?

@khan91: Congratulations! Lafayette is a really tough place to get into! You’re on a roll… :)

@khan91: 95% financial aid is a lot to be content with. And Lafayette for engineering is almost unbeatable. Why HKUST all of a sudden…?

yea, i mean i;m not sure, havent thought it through yet, just got the lafa offer. Perhaps i’m reading too much into world top 40 ranking of HKUST?.Am i?
What’d you do?

Lafayette with 95% aid! Nice. Would you mind posting a link to your stats? I will update the list cuz I also got an acceptance today.

finally someone on CC who is modest.

lol, guys what i meant was that i’m not the star-student most people on CC are. I’ve no distinctions, no MUN awards, no tech-related significant awards. Perhaps my essay helped. Wrote about football (really crazy liverpool fan)/ The lafa ppl mentioned it in their letter.

Anyhow, i need advice on what to do. The HKUST deadline is like in a week. HELP!

@khan91: How much scholarship did HKUST give you? And which course did you get admitted to there? The answers to these two questions may well make your choice easier.

Career wise HKUST will help you start off in a better position than Lafayette would I suppose. But in the long run, as personal development is emphasized at LACs, an education at Lafyette is likely to be of greater benefit. It depends on your perspective I guess.

@nrmncpr: Use [ quote ] and [ /quote ] - without the spaces, of course.

HKUST scholarship was 75%. But i’ll have to pay almost the same at both places (HKUST and Lafa) per year. Course i got admitted to at HKUST was Electronic Engineering.

@ nrmncpr, i think i’m more of a career-oriented person. But the LAC education really appeals to me. Plus, HKUST is 3 years, Lafa is 4 years.

Another point: Is campus employment included in your financial aid package at Lafayette? I don’t think you’ll need to work on-campus at HKUST.

How…? You’ll pay less at HKUST because the degree there will be completed in 3yrs, as opposed to the 4yr program at Lafayette.

khan91, if I was in your position, having family nearby would tip the scales in favor of HKUST for me (assuming that you do have family in China).
