If you dont have a US visa or haven’t gotten one in 2008 I’d recommend that you apply ASAP. They run a background check which takes a long time if you don’t have one done already.

What if you have a tourist visa? Does that help in making the process somewhat quicker?
We can only apply for the student visa once we’ve enrolled at the school, paid the deposit and they’ve sent us the I 20 form right? I guess all that’ll be done around mid may?
Also, do the mock grades have to be sent to the college your enrolling at too, or only the final Alev ones will do?

Yes, it does make the process a little quicker. US Embassy need security clearence on every person that enters US. So, if you have already been to US once/twice/whatever number of times, it will help in the Visa process. Plus, the immigration officers look at your previous record, any denied/accepted visas. You need to have appropriate explanation for it.

Depends whether you’re wait listed or accepted. If you already have an acceptance letter that mentions that you need to deposit $200-$500 (mentioned there) to get the I-20 form, then as soon as you deposit the money, the college/uni will mail you the I-20. That’s why I said wait listing is a gamble!

Again, you’re college/uni must have notified you. I clearly remember, Colgate requires its accepted students to submit their grades. In that case, you can confrim it with the college by simply calling the admissions office. IMO, you just need to send them your transcripts, because A Levels result comes out around 10th Aug, which is obviously very late, and colleges need to make prior adjustments for incoming students which take a lot of time. Still, it would be better if you call the admissions office and get this point confirmed.

Good advise for people on the process of getting their F1 visa.

[Bank Balance of $37,100 Without Student Loan?](http://www.happyschoolsblog.com/bank-balance-student-visa-loan/)

Yes, the title is reminiscent of Princeton Review :)

So, here it is.

Firstly, RELAX, what counts most is that you go in there on time and are confident. Bring your documents along, otherwise, rejected pile awaits you (yes, this happened there).

Move about confidently, be confident, and show no signs of nervousness (rather, don’t be nervous; its going to be a piece of cake, really!) You will be called into the interview room in the order you come to the room. Upon being called to the interview room, you will find a panel of four interviewers, three faculty members and the admissions executive. The interview will start with an introduction to the friendly aforementioned people who will be all warm and welcoming as long as you are confident and give occasional smiles :). Then, be prepared to tell a bit about yourself, and they might ask you questions regarding where you live, your environment, your school and so on. Also, your favorite subject, and how you liked the SSE test.

Following this each faculty member will ask questions by making diagrams on a paper and asking you about them. Interviews aside, the faculty were great! So, The faculty will ask questions regarding their own subjects. Things like equations might be worth knowing…like they asked me the Gravitational Force equation, the Centripetal force equation. Your conceptual knowledge will be tested, like why the moon doesn’t fall to the ground etc. After this they asked me about projectile motion, fairly simple things like draw a displacement time and velocity time graphs, and what happens to the acceleration of the ball while in motion.

Then came maths. Remember, they will be making most questions up on the spot so no use asking about their experiences feels silly :D. They made graphs and asked me to draw graphs of the derivatives of the functions represented. Chemistry person made a titration graph with three neutralization points, and helped me reason, until I realized it was a tri-basic acid! Yes, I know, I’m not so good!

After this was the nice part - stuff about yourself. They discussed my hobbies, the achievements i had written on my application, my essay, what I liked to do, my favorite book, movies, actors, how I liked the campus and so on… Then it was my turn to ask questions about LUMS, both academic and non-academic stuff. Thanks and we’ll let you know soon, nice meeting you, bye bye :)

They then take you to another room, and ask you to write a 150 word essay in 20 minutes. Topics were easy, like how I can contribute to the environment. Be sure to write good English, as you don’t want to end up taking remedial classes through out your first year!

And that was about it. I know this is too detailed, but isn’t that what I promised? Any questions, and you are most welcome to ask. Point to be noted, I really liked the engineering building, do check it out, and also the rest of the campus. Good Luck!

Thanx a lot flibb. Ur work is highly appreciated. Best of luck for ur result. ANd thanx again.
